I am new to the site and have been doing my research on here. I just had en exstensive blood panel done to rule out other disorders and I have an appt. scheduled with an LLMD in my area.
But I have noticed the EBV mentioned in a couple of posts??
I tested positive for EBV before I got my bulls eye rash.
I was just wondering if there was an association between the two?
XOXO, Tara

because we are immune compromised or immune-burdened--
we often have MANY other viruses in our load.
we are more susceptible to the effects of infection because of pre-existing viruses OR become moreso after we're bitten and infected.
Ticks carry SO many bacteria, parasites and viruses -- as yet to be discovered, I'm sure. and not well-understood.
My understanding is that a significant % of the human population is exposed to EBV and other viruses and may test positive for it (if they are ever tested) without nec. having symptoms of any kind.
I had increasing fatigue over time and was never tested for EBV. I've never had "mono" by the way.
My sister's doc says the EBV #s can fluctuate day-to-day anyway.
I'm not sure if I can attribute my fatigue to EBV, the lyme, or something else as yet unknown.
Some say it's sort of a rain barrell effect where we accumulate threats to our immune system over time-bacteria, viruses, parasites--
until one day it overflows and there is obvious illness.

Most healthy people also carry the EBV .. but it is when our immune system is shot that the EBV can cause problems.
I would focus on the Lyme. When you get it under control, you will be OK.

It is LYME disease, not Lymes.
Most people with Lyme have a positive EBV count and it goes back to normal once Lyme and tick borne infections are properly treated. Sometimes anti-virals are used. Basically, normally dormant infections can become active when you get a tick bite.

I did not know that most people with Lyme disease have a positive EBV. I do. I have a positive EBV now but did not in the beginning of my treatment. I have been treated for a year and a half now.
