I realize some of my questions may sound mundane or I'm beating a dead horse, but I am new here and know practically nothing about a disease I've been carrying for twenty years.
You don't know how grateful I am to finally find a group of people that "get it". All the doctors, friends and family members treat me like nothing is wrong. I have trouble conveying what I'm trying to say, which leads to more friction. I feel like no one listens or at least don't "hear" what I'm trying to say. My wife tries really hard to understand, but I guess, if you haven't been there, you really don't know. My thought processes have caused a lot of spats between us. I feel to "dumb" to have an intelligent conservation with anyone. If someone tells me I am wrong, I just assume they are right because I can't think straight. Whoa, starting to veer off the path. My main purpose of this post is to thank you all for welcoming me and showing your support. If I appear to ask mundane or silly questons, please bear with me. Again, thank you all so so much. Your friend, Don.

You do not sound like an idiot AT ALL.

I believe it is extremely difficult for others to understand what we are going through, unless they have experienced something similar.

Sometimes it is necessary reach out to others, such as the people on this board, to feel understood. And you will be understood, since we are all there or have been there in the past.

Hello Don - sorry you had to join us lymies. I hear and understand what you are going through.
Its like carrying a nightmare around that people cant see, hear or understand. I have asked all the silly questions but I think its part of the process of learning to cope with this disease. Its a friendly group here so WELCOME

Hey flimflam...

Wait a minute... How are we expected to be responding when someone is running around here dropping her drawers all the time, all the darn time? That Tutu... she is something else.

[lol]

You said.. "My thought processes have caused a lot of spats between us."

May I suggest?

Lesson one- Your wife is always going to be right, Lyme or not.

Lesson two- If you have Lyme- don't even bother trying to be right.

Lesson three- When she is on a roll, just look at her and smile (inside- don't dare smile AT her while she is on a roll)...

And wait for her to stop long enough for you to say...

"You know honey, you are right. I'm sorry."

End of story.

[Big Grin]

Then, to get rid of your frustrations for always being wrong...

Find a release. Walking, painting- and not her clothes in the closet either- be nice...

Maybe even write down your feelings... and then be DARN sure you burn that paper so she doesn't see it.

Or... there is always a Jimmy Buffet song that can improve your mood. BUT.. you MUST sing a long... not just listen.

Then again.. while I was in a spanish speaking country on my own... and knew absolutely NO spanish...

I felt SO darn smart. I was a genius.

Why?

No one there expected me to BE smart cause I couldn't speak the language... and they helped me all the time and were so nice about it... thinking it was only a language barrier and not that I was so dumb.
