Hello all first post and glad to be here.. My name is James,
I contracted lymes anywhere from 1 year to 3 monthes before I got Bell's Palsy. The only problem was I didn't know I had it until I got the Bells treated in August of 08 Luckily I got all movment back in my face. Thy gave me 3 differnet drugs to treat my Lymes don't remember them. During that year to 3 monthes beofore i got treated it was complete hell. I had leg pains achy joints and not to mention extreme fatigue I would sleep 10-12 hours a day.
After being treated some year a and half ago I still have a major fatigue problem. Im tired all the time. Also my muscles and joints get sore very easily after low intensity workouts or even when I'm not working out. But the thing that bothers me is my vision in the past year and a half has gotten so bad. It's not just blurriness its also like a shaky vision, When i see things they all seem to be moving, When i look at any sort of pattern it seems to me in constant short motion, also at night I see thousands of white specs moving all around. My question is are these symptoms I have now (extreme fatigue, joint/muslce pains, and werid shaky, blurry vision)possibly an affect of me getting Lyme's a year and a half ago.
Thanks for anyone who responds!

Hi James, and welcome!
Yes, those symptoms can be from chronic lyme.
It is likely that you were undertreated for Lyme and it became chronic.
You really need to see a LLMD (Lyme literate MD) and be evaluated for common coinfections too like Babesia, Bartonella and Ehrlichia.
A good LLMD will evaluate and treat you according to ILADS guidelines.
Please post on the Seeking a Doctor Board if you have not done that already, to find a Dr in your state or a nearby state.
Also go to the Medical Questions board and read alot and ask questions.
There are alot of knowledgable and supportive people here.
It is very important that you start reading about Lyme and coinfections. Knowledge is power and you must be your own best advocate.

I was treated once for lyme's like I said. Do you think there is still lingering effects possibly that were never cured? Or a possible cross infection that wasn't noticed?

Yes, Lyme and possible coinfection too.
You need a LLMD.

Lyme is hard to beat... It may never have really left you. You can still beat it with the help of a good LLMD.
You need to also be tested for coinfections. They could be keeping you from getting well.

Yes, James. It seems you still have lyme disease.
A good lyme doctor treats the patient until they are symptom free. That means no symptoms at all remain. Then, he continues treatment for at least another 2 months (for anyone sick with lyme at least a year).
Your story is all too common, unfortunately. You need to find a doc with sufficient expertise to really get rid of this disease for you.
And, also, if you have untreated coinfections, you will not be able to get rid of the lyme disease. The coinfections work together with the lyme to all remain in your body.
My case was an example of both--I was inadequately treated for lyme (was given nothing to kill the cyst form) and I was not tested or treated for coinfections. It turns out I had both babesiosis and bartonella.
I didn't get rid of these diseases until I went to a doc who followed the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines (you have the link above). He used combinations of antibiotics and he used flagyl to kill the cyst form.
He tested me for coinfections and treated all that I had. Each coinfection requires separate meds to treat it. It is complex to get rid of all of these diseases we acquire with perhaps just one tick bite.
So, get to a good lyme doc who will test you for all the coinfections and don't stop treatment until you feel totally normal--just like with any other disease.
So glad you asked this question!

It's Lyme Disease just so you know. Lyme's is not correct. Yes your symptoms sound like Lyme and possible a co infection which is common. Only and ILADS certified Lyme doctor will be able to test and diagnose everything. Hang in there and know you are not alone. Treatment is hard but you will get thru.
Blessings, T

- James, if you are using your real full name here, that could present security problems in many ways.
If so, ask a moderator how to change that. -

- You described: : . . shaky vision, When i see things they all seem to be moving, When i look at any sort of pattern it seems to me in constant short motion . . ."
Sound like nystagmus where the eyes spasm - it is often related to inner ear dysfunction and is very common with lyme. Most of the symptoms on the vestibular list below are also symptoms of lyme. With proper treatment - even if revisiting all that - this can still be resolved.
In the meantime, look at the Tinnitus thread for suggestions of what can help.
MAGNESIUM can really help calm nystagmus.
GINGER CAPSULES, too. But, ultimately, the best treatment is for whatever tick-borne stuff is going on - get to the bottom line.
Find a good ILADS-educated LLMD. After seeing him/her, if a consult with and ear specialist is needed, they can refer you to one who is Lyme Literate. This is very important - that any specialist you see be LL.
