I'm looking for some free (or worst case really cheap, but safe) places to stay, when I go to see my dr. I haven't decided who the best dr is for me to see yet though. Please see my signature.

Does anyone know of any places, in general or specifically, where I could stay for free or really cheap, so I can see a dr?

The only place I can think of, right now, is the Ronald McDonald House, but I'm not sure what their requirements are. Does anyone know?

Any helpful information, websites, leads, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Jennie

* Go to the website for Ronald McDonald Guest Houses.

After reading more about them, you can call the one near where you plan to go and they can tell you more about qualifications - or direct you to other options.

* Contact the local lyme support groups in that area.

* Also churches or synagogues, or temples (depending upon your faith but also of congregations that have outreach programs across faiths).

Some convents, monasteries or retreat houses have sliding-fee scale rates. You need not usually be of a particular faith, just respectful of that of the hosts.

There may be some volunteers in their communities who offer a guest room for medical travelers.

* Are there any hostels around there?

* University housing - some colleges have guest housing set aside or open up dorm rooms during vacations.

If you forego maid service during your stay, some hotels/motels sometimes also reduce the rate.

Hostels tend to be safe and have good kitchen and lounge facilities, so you can make your own food.

If you stay in a bunk bed in a large room, the rates are very cheap, and the locations are often right in the middle of downtown where all the hotels are very expensive.

They may not have good disabled access, and I had a bit of trouble getting a lower bunk at one place I stayed (though I did get one eventually). I tried to get into the upper one, and wasn't able to with my joint problems.

Some hostels also have private rooms, which cost more, but usually still less than a hotel.

You bring your own padlock, and they have lockers where you can put your luggage.

Great ideas, Keebler. Thank you very much.

Once I can, somehow, figure out exactly which dr(s) is/are the best for me to see, I will follow up on your suggestions, according to where the dr(s) is/are located.

Unfortunately, I'm having alot of trouble figuring out which dr(s) is/are best for me to see though. I've yet to receive much help from anyone here about that, which is very critical for me to know, at this point.

I keep hoping and praying someone here, hopefully even more than one person, will see my post in "Seeking A Doctor", respond to it, and be able to help me with that. Until then, I continue to remain confused, as to which dr(s) I need to see, so I still don't know what to do about that, right now.

What do you mean by foregoing maid service?

Can you explain to me exactly what "hostels" are, LightAtTheEnd? I've never even heard of them before, until now.

Can you tell me how I can go about finding "hostels", depending on where the dr(s) is/are I, eventually, need to see are located? Unfortunately, I've yet to figure out which dr(s) I need to see though, but when I do, I think knowing that would help me alot to find one or more of them, which might be able to help me.

I noticed your signature says you were bitten in Perry County, Indiana. Do you still live there?

If so, I am the founder of and run the "Tri-State Lyme Disease Support Group for Western Kentucky, Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois, and Other Nearby Areas" support group. It's listed here under "Support Groups". I run it, mainly, via phone, even though I've met, individually, with several people in my area who've contacted me. My phone number has changed though, but I've recently emailed a request to the webmaster here to update it. I just looked today and it hasn't been done yet, but it should be taken care of soon. I actually get anywhere between 2-5 phone calls per month from people who are living in the areas I serve, although I've been known to receive some phone calls from people living in other areas also and always try to help them too, if I can.

Assuming you're still living in Perry County, Indiana, would you mind to send me a private message and let me know about the dr(s) you're seeing now or have seen in the past, which are/have helped you to treat your lyme, as well as any bad/good information you have about them? That may very well help me find the right dr(s) I need to see. Even if you're not still living there, would you mind to send me the same information anyway? That may very well help me too, since I'm willing to travel as far as I need to, in order to find the right dr(s) I need to see. I'm, seriously, considering relocating also, if that's what it takes for me to find the right dr(s) to treat me, as well, thus I believe any dr(s) information you can give me could be quite helpful to me.

Hostel International is one network of hostels that are located in many cities. You can find them on their website, here:
http://www.hihostels.com/

You can also find hostels that are independent or part of other networks by going to Google and typing in the name of the city and the word "hostels."

I was visiting Perry County when I got bitten.

I live close to Louisville, where we have just had our first meeting of a new Louisville-based support group.

We are in the process of scheduling another meeting, and will post an announcement on Lymenet beforehand. You and anyone else in driving distance to Louisville are welcome to attend.

Thanks for the info about your support group.

My LLMD is in Pennsylvania. I am very happy with him so far, but have only been there twice. I have only been sick with Lyme for about 10 months, so I don't have enough experience to recommend particular doctors.
