The books of Dr Robert O young and his blog go on about this at length.

I dont believe in buying any of his products but the acid/akaline issue interests me.

Sodium Bicarbonate In The Prevention and Reversal of All Dis-Ease
Over the last decade, Dr. Ralph Moss, at the University of Arizona has been researching the use of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) as a potential treatment for cancerous conditions. (1)

At the same time Robert J. Gillies and his colleagues have demonstrated that pre-treatment of mice with sodium bicarbonate results in the alkalinization of the area around tumors. (Raghunand 2003)

Using sodium bicarbonate in the treatment of a cancerous condition has been found to "enhance the anti-tumor activity" of other anticancer drugs. The alkalizing effects are very similar to the recently published research of injecting O2 directly into tumors where such direct administration of oxygen also facilitated the action of chemotherapy.

This year the same researchers reported that sodium bicarbonate increases tumor pH (i.e., making it more alkaline) and also inhibiting spontaneous metastases (Robey 2009). They also showed that oral sodium bicarbonate increased the pH of tumors and also reduced the formation of spontaneous metastases in mice with breast cancer. Oral administration of sodium bicarbonate also reduced the rate of lymph node involvement.

Both Dr. Moss as well as Dr. Simoncini, an oncologist from Rome, Italy, found it striking that the oral administration of bicarbonate was able to reduce the spontaneous formation of metastases in mice with breast cancer. Dr. Moss stated, "This is impressive work that needs to go forward." Sodium bicarbonate has been used for decades in chemotherapy, but until the last few years, baking soda has received little attention. Now, in great part due to the work, clinical research and reporting of Dr. Moss, Dr. Simoncini and Dr. Robert O. Young, Director of the pH Miracle Living Center and founder of the New Biology(R), there are over 50,000 web sites with information on this subject.

There is little dispute that cancer is an ACIDIC condition which can be measured in terms of tumor pH. During many years of previous clinical research preceding Dr. Moss and Dr. Simoncini, Dr. Robert O. Young, the world's leading nutritional microbiologist and live and dried blood microscopist, had long reported that cancerous tissues are significantly more acidic than normal tissues. Dr. Young also reported that manipulation of pH with oral and/or intravenous sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate can help to restore healthy tissue and reverse cancerous conditions.

It is amazing to note the lack of follow-up research by the medical and pharmaceutical industry over the last 80 years in view of the fact that in 1932, Dr. Warburg received a Nobel prize for discovering the cause of cancer. He determined that cancerous cells and tissues were acidic and also low in oxygen. According to Dr. Young, "When alkalinity increases the supply of hydroxyl ions or oxygen to the cancerous tissue, the increase in hydroxyl ions or oxygen combines with the excessive hydrogen ions in and around the cancerous cells or tissues creating water and neutralizing the acid which was the original cause of the cellular or tissue breakdown. Simply put, dietary and/or metabolic acid is the cause of all cancerous cells and tissues." In view of this astounding, demonstrable and easily verifiable information, it is incredible that America loses more than 500,000 lives to cancer each year and cancer costs continue to exceed a quarter trillion dollar annual industry.

Sodium bicarbonate is the universal mainstream treatment of acidosis. It is used every day by oncologists to neutralize the heavy acidic nature of their chemical and chemotherapeutic agents which are offten quite toxic. Sodium bicarbonate is also used routinely in many clinical situations as herein noted including many peer--reviewed journals:

1) Severe diabetic ketoacidosis (2)
2) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (3)
3) Pregnancy (4)
4) Hemodialysis (5)
5) Peritoneal dialysis (6)
6) Pharmacological toxicosis (7)
7) Hepatopathy (8)
8) Vascular surgery operations (9)

Medics and emergency room medical doctors are accustomed to participating in a flurry of activity when trying to save a persons live after a cardiac arrest--inserting IVs and breathing tubes, performing defibrillation to restart the heart, etc. Sodium bicarbonate is a constant performer under such conditions and is more commonly used than magnesium injections, which is traditionally at the top of every doctor's protocol for cardiac arrest.

Mainstream oncologists recognize the routine involvement of late stage infections which Dr. Young refers to as outfections in all cancerous conditions. Medical savants also recognize that bacteria, yeast and mold is present in over forty percent of all cancerous conditions. (10) The most recent research in this area demonstrates how even viruses, which Dr. Young describes as crystallized acid, is present in fifty percent of certain types of cancerous conditions. (11)

Dr. Robert O. Young has written or co-authored over 15 books in over 18 different languages on the subject of acid having given rise to biological transformation of cells or the birth of bacteria, yeast and mold in all dis-ease or so-called disease and cellular or tissue conditions. This would also include late stage outfections which are the result of an over-acidification of the internal environment.

According to Dr. Young, there is a simple definition of cancer - ACID. Anyone who has seen a cancerous tissue will admit that cancer is a rot that is breaking down the body and that will destroy it if left unchecked. When the body is rotting, when its cells and tissues are demonstrating dire distress, when certain colonies of cells become acidic and rotten and change their type of metabolism from respiration to fermentation, when dietary and metabolic acids are not properly removed through the four channels of elimination, including urination, respiration, defecation and perspiration, then you will have a certain over-acidic condition that will eventually take shape depending on where the acid is deposited. Dietary and/or metabolic acid which are not properly eliminated are generally deposited in the colloidal connective and fatty tissues. The body deposits acids into the tissue in order to preserve the delicate pH balance of the blood at 7.365. This is why there is such an increase in breast, brain and prostate cancers.

Dr. Young's position has been clearly stated for more than two decades. "No matter what one observes or describes as cancer, no matter what atypical physical manifestation one might claim, no matter what nuance one might observe in the formation and prolifereation of cancerous cells, it should be obvious by now that all the names and various kinds of cancerous conditions are essentially the same. It is clear that in any type of rotting cells or tissue, the bacteria, yeast and mold are a result of those rotting cells and tissue and NOT THE CAUSE!

Dr. Young also states, "bacteria, yeast/fungi, and mold are not the cause of a cancerous condition but are the result and the evidence of cells and tissues biologically transforming from a healthy state and to a unhealthy state." Dr. Young astutely observed that, "over-acidification of the body leads to the development of chronic yeast and fungal outfections and ultimately a cancerous condition of the cells and tissues."

Fundamentally, cancer is a relatively simple over-acidic condition of the blood and then tissues that leads to an oxygen deficiency dis-ease. The use of sodium bicarbonate increases hydroxyl ions or oxygen that buffers dietary and/or metabolic acids preventing the rotting or fermentation of cells and tissues and thus prevents and/or reverses a cancerous condition.

One is not likely to fall into a cancerous condition if one's blood and tissues are in the perfect alkaline state of 7.365. To achieve this perfect alkaline state, free from all sickness and dis-esase, one must have alkaline nutritional sufficiency including full alkaline hydration, ingestion of liberal amounts of green foods rich in chlorophyll to build healthy blood and tissues, and plenty of healthy alkalizing sun exposure. Then, add plenty of restful sleep, alkalizing exercise, relaxed conflict-free existence and a pristine alkaline environment (something that no longer exists in most areas of the world). One must also include freedom from dental amalgam, antibiotics, steroids/hormones, recreational drugs and vaccines in order to achieve extraordinary health and a cancerous free existence.

Candidly, all of this health and medical information is clearly omnipresent, and cancer has become such an onerous, frightening, disasterous, and economic monstrosity in our world today, that a brief discussion of the decades of duplicitous and compounding human error may be at least somewhat instructive.

Cancer is easy to define because it defines modern man. Humanity is in deep acidic trouble with its cancerous condition for the simple reason that we are in deep acidic trouble with ourselves, our relationships, and our civilization.

There are no real medical precedents to draw upon when it comes to the use of sodium bicarbonate; it is an obvious panacea. Its broad usefulness is so clear and self-evident that virtually no research has sought to point out the obvious nor attempt to expand upons its potentially unlimited value. Sodium bicarbonate is simply and clearly that useful, safe and effective for ALL sickness and dis-ease. It is a given.

But it now appears that much of the ongoing medical debate over its use has more to do with human confusion, medical group-think, financially driven myopia, and illogical thought processes than anything having to do with observable phenomenon or simple reality. That is what sociologists, observers, and various investigators appear to be discovering and increasingly reporting in the public debate over the issue of universal health care.

People often work backwards from a firm conclusion to find supporting facts, rather than letting evidence inform and direct their views. A totally rational person would first lay out and then evaluate objectively the pros and cons of sodium bicarbonate and its use in a cancerous protocol. But even the best professionals become attached to their own self-serving beliefs and self-protective egos. We humans often form emotional attachments that become wrapped up in our image, reputation, personal identity and connecting beliefs about medicine and health. This attachment often unfolds irrespective of the facts of the matter. This pervasive, gut-level attachment then renders our personal theories and subjective beliefs all that more potent and meaningful in our minds than simple, pragmatic evidence and answers.

Thus, this same human condition renders many, scientists and non-scientists alike, as vulnerable to a phenomenon of tightly grasping various beliefs, even in the face of scientific evidence to the contrary. It then becomes an enormous challenge including a test of personal courage and self-confidence to be able to reevaluate one's own world views and medical belief system. Yet, in order to be of service to humanity, practitioners must be able to effect such a process of repositioning, even if we must reverse our own previously held thoughts, beliefs, statements, writings, and positions.

Some of the greatest changes throughout history have occurred as a result of the efforts of a single individual or very small groups. Humanity depends on very few medical and science leaders to offer the latest and the best information. Individual egos do get in the way, and some scientists, medical doctors, university professors, and health politicians are known for their substantial egos and scientific airs.

Regardless of what one's ego says, the scope of dietary and metabolic acids and the comprehensiveness of the problems they usher into the world are vastly important in science, medicine, health and prevention. Sadly, it will one day be understood, in retrospect, that it was the affectively damaged, intellectually deficient, or characteroloically irresponsible practitioners who will have totally ignored the importance of acids as the cause of ALL sickness and dis-ease. As German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer reminded us, "There are three steps in the reveleation of any Truth. In the first, it is ridiculed; in the second, resisted, in the third, it is considered self evident." Eventually, only those practitioners with their proverbial head-in-the-sand will have ignored the reality of sodium bicarbonate's powerful action and how it dramatically reestablishes the intracellular alkaline environment and its miraculous efficacy wherein conditions are over-acidic and causing sickness and dis-ease.

The action of sodium bicarbonate is, for all intents and purpose, instant and effective in preventing and reversing a cancerous condition for many victims. Most cancer sufferers are able to reverse their cancerous condition in 12 to 16 weeks, although, depending on previous treatment and certain constitutional or bodily variables, some reversals may take up to 9 months. In the end, even the most effective sodium bicarbonate application is not as powerful, and therefore not a healthy alternative or substitute, as Dr. Young's pH Miracle alkaline diet including pure, hydroxyl, ion-rich alkaline water.

Sodium bicarbonate--that simple white stuff called baking soda--can be purchased in any supermarket in the world and is a world class anti-bacterial and anti-fungal with no known negative side-effects. If one needs to "punch in the face" a late stage outfection of any kind, simply use sodium bicarbonate. If a person wants to eliminate bacteria, yeast or mold colonies in the blood or tissues, baking soda should be a number one choice. Dr. Young explains, "sodium bicarbonate can be used like a fire extinguisher spraying the tissues with alkalinity and preventing or reversing latent tissue acidosis. It can be used orally and/or transdermally to reach all parts of the body through systemic effect via the blood."

Medical researchers such as Dr. Tullio Simoncini and Dr. Robert O. Young have identified the alkaline substances uniquely able to penetrate the volumetric acidic cancerous tissues, such as sodium bicarbonate, magnesium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate and calcium bicarbonate. These elements are manufactured in the body to prevent acidic build-up and to maintain the alkaline design of the body. When the body is perfectly balanced and slightly alkaline, we are healthy, strong and happy.

Sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium bicarbonate, when used in conjunction with other equally safe substances, can form the basis for a natural chemotherapy, which has proven to be greatly more effective then significantly more toxic and acidic interventions. Most people are all too aware of the horrors that await those who travel down the road of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. The question becomes: Why travel down these pits to bodily suffering and devastation when safer, vastly more affordable, natural, and highly effective answers like sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium bicarbonate are so readily available?

Special Note: Dr. Young suggests using a combination of four powerful cell salts of sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium bicarbonate which are available under the name of pHour Salts.

Special Recommendation: Dr. Young also suggests sodium and potassium bicarbonate use for anyone undergoing cardiac angiography, CT (computed tomography) or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) to protect their kidneys. The incidence of medical imaging has soared over the last few years across all types of tests. Doctors have long known that exposure to contrast agents can cause damage in seemingly healthy kidneys. The Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology warns that kidney damage or injury can arise after undergoing certain common medical imaging procedures and poses a serious health threat.

A meta-analysis of 17 randomised controlled trials has shown that pre-procedural treatment with sodium bicarbonate-based hydration is the best strategy to prevent contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). 12

Many medical imaging techniques, including cardiac angiography and CT scans, often involve the use of contrast agents, substances that contain iopamidol, iodixanol and barium with their own toxic downside. Dr. Solomon found that 31 percent of research subjects experienced negative health effects after imaging test. Overall, 13 percent of patients experienced a major event, such as death, stroke, heart attack, or end-stage renal disease. Those who developed contrast-induced kidney injuries had twice as many long-term negative health effects as compared with patients who did not suffer kidney damage. No doubt much of this harm can be avoided if sodium bicarbonate is used appropriately.

Robert O. Young
Born 1952
Nationality American
Occupation Author, Microbiologist
Known for Authoring the pH Miracle Books

Robert O. Young (born c. 1952) is an American author of books relating to alternative medicine and the alkaline diet.[1] Young is also a naturopath, microbiologist and describes himself as a nutritionist.[1][2][3] His most popular works are known as the pH Miracle books, which outline his beliefs about health, holistic healing, and an "alkalarian" lifestyle.[4][5][6] He resides in Alpine, Utah as well as at Rancho Del Sol, an avocado and grapefruit ranch in Valley Center, California, with his wife, the author, massage therapist, and chef, Shelley Redford Young.[7] Together, they run "The pH Miracle Center", farm alkaline fruits and vegetables, hold health retreats, and teach live blood analysis and health seminars on what they refer to as "The New Biology", which encompasses theories about the cause and source of disease and how to prevent it through an alkaline diet and a physically active, low-stress lifestyle.[6]

[edit] Education

According to Young's website, he obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Utah, where he studied biology and business, in the early 1970s,[3] following which he did missionary work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) for two years in London, England.[3] He received several degrees from Clayton College of Natural Health, an unaccredited distance learning school. These include an MS in nutrition (1993), a D.Sc. with emphasis in chemistry and biology (1995), a PhD (1997) and an ND (Doctor of Naturopathy, 1999).[3]
[edit] Published works

Young has authored a series of best-selling books and videos titled The pH Miracle (Warner Books, 2002), The pH Miracle for Diabetes (Warner Books, 2004), The pH Miracle for Weight Loss (Warner Books, 2005), and "The pH Miracle Revised" (Grand Central Publishing, Hatchette Books, 2010).[8] Other books he has authored include Herbal Nutritional Medications (1988), One Sickness, One Disease, One Treatment (1992), Sick and Tired (Woodland Publishing (1995), Back to the House of Health (Woodland Publishing, 1999), Back to the House of Health 2, (Woodland Books, 2003).[3] According to Young's website, the pH Miracle books have sold more than 650,000 copies as of April, 2010, and have been translated into 19 different languages.[6]
[edit] Influence
Young claims in his book to have observed Pleomorphism

Young has been said to be furthering the research of Antoine Bchamp and Gunther Enderlein.[9] Like Bchamp and Enderlein, Young asserts that the protit (Bchamp's "mycrozyma") is the smallest anatomical element and that it makes up all living forms such as blood and tissue.[10][11][12] Furthermore, like Bchamp and Enderlein, Young claims to have observed pleomorphism occurring within living organisms and explains that it is the environment that is triggering this phenomenon to occur.[10][11][12] Pleomorphism is the phenomenon observed when living organisms, such as bacteria, change forms in response to their environment.[13] Pleomorphism is understood to occur in bacteria; however, Young has argued that it also occurs in human blood cells in response to the pH of the surrounding fluids.[10]

Young believes, like Bchamp and Enderlein, that disease is a general condition of one's internal environment.[10][11][12] The bulk of Young's writings, research, and theories seeks to explain, prove, and validate that the environmental factor of an acidic pH of the fluids of the body is what triggers pleomorphic biological transmutation in the blood and is the ultimate cause and source of disease, sickness, and death as well as the key to its prevention and cure.[14] These claims are what Young calls "The New Biology".[5]
[edit] Work

Young promotes an alkaline diet. He claims that health depends primarily on proper balance between an alkaline and acid environment in the human body; according to this theory, when the blood becomes too acidic, the body will take whatever action necessary to regulate the acid-alkaline balance of the blood. According to Young, in this environment the body will begin to break down and show signs of disease including cancer, obesity, osteoporosis, yeast overgrowth, flu, skin disorders, etc.[15] Young researches and writes about pleomorphism occurring on a cellular level.[4][16] Young's fundamental theory is that the human body is alkaline by design and acidic by function and that there is only one sickness, one disease, and one treatment.[17][18] Young claims that this one sickness and one disease is acidosis, the over-acidification of the blood and then tissues due to an inverted way of living, eating, and thinking.[19] The "one treatment" is to maintain the alkaline design of the body through an alkaline lifestyle and diet.[17]

Young's books recommend an alkaline protocol consisting of a low-stress lifestyle and a high-water content, high chlorophyll, plant-based diet.[20] The protocol recommends moderate intake of high-carbohydrate vegetables, some grains, and fresh fish.[21] Young recommends abstaining from "acidic" foods -- such as sugar, red meat, shellfish, eggs, dairy, processed and refined foods, stored grains, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, coffee, chocolate, and sodas[21] -- because overloading the body's ability to eliminate excess acidity will result in the body becoming sick and decomposing.[22] Young claims that disorders such as weight gain, water retention, cholesterol, calcium stones, and tumors are all life-saving mechanisms for storing and dealing with excess acidity in the body.[22] Young's writings commonly explain these theories using a "fish tank" metaphor that compares the environment of the human body to the environment of a fish tank.[1][23]

Research supporting alkaline diets, like that promoted by Young, is limited to in vitro and animal studies. There is no scientific evidence at present that alkaline diets are beneficial in humans.[24] According to the National Council Against Health Fraud, a 2005 MEDLINE search indicated that Young had not published any research in recognized scientific journals, and that none of his graduate degrees was from an accredited educational institution.[25]
[edit] Nutritional microscopy
Main article: Live blood analysis

Young bases some of his theories, research, and written works from his observations of live blood analysis and dry blood analysis.[10] Young believes that live and dry blood analysis allows him to analyze the biological terrain, and that the state of the blood cells and the fluids that surround them, correlate with a person's lifestyle and dietary choices.[2] Young teaches microscopy courses in which he trains people to perform live blood analysis as well as dry blood analysis.[3] Young has also stated that he teaches live blood analysis solely for research and educational purposes, and not for use in diagnosing medical conditions - an important legal distinction.[26]

Live blood analysis is primarily used by alternative medical practitioners who claim it to be a valuable qualitative assessment of a person's state of health, represented by the amount of pleomorphic degeneration or regeneration in the biological terrain.[2][9][27][28] Live blood analysis lacks scientific foundation, and has been described as a fraudulent means of convincing patients to buy dietary supplements and a medically useless "money-making scheme".[26][29][30] Live blood analysis has been described by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as an "unestablished laboratory test", or test that is not generally accepted in laboratory medicine.[31]
[edit] Legal issues

In 1995, Young allegedly drew blood from two women, told them they were ill, and then sold them herbal products to treat these illnesses. He was charged with two third-degree felony counts of practicing medicine without a license, but pled guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge.[16][26] Young argued that he had never claimed to be a medical doctor, that the women had entrapped him by asking to be part of his research, and that he "looked at the women's blood and simply gave them some nutritional advice."[16]

In 2001, Young was again charged with a felony in Utah, after a woman suffering from cancer alleged that he told her to stop chemotherapy and use one of his products to treat her cancer instead. Subsequently, when an undercover agent visited Young, he allegedly analyzed her blood and prescribed a liquid diet. The case was taken to preliminary trial, but charges were dropped after the prosecutor stated that he could not find enough people who felt cheated by Young. Young himself dismissed the arrests as "harassment", and stated that they were a factor in his move to California, "in part because the legal climate here is more tolerant for dietary researchers such as himself."[26]
[edit] Personal

Young is a great-great grandson of Brigham Young and Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, King of Norway and Sweden.[32] He earned the Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America in 1966.[33]

pH certainly is something we don't think about much - but should - as it can make a huge difference. Thanks for those links. It will take awhile to read but it's good to have it all there.

Good questions about the amount, frequency and with how much water.

Just be careful. If taken after a too-full of a meal to ease digestion, too much can cause the stomach to blow-up, literally. It has happened.

I read recently that the acid/alkaline thing is all blown up out of proportion.

Wish I could remember where I read it... maybe it was Prevention magazine? I'll see if I can find it.

I did Dr Youngs program abiut 8 yrs ago. Have the book and followed the diet. He proposes sodium chlorite not sodium bicarbonate or sodium chloride.

I did this for about 3 mos and it didn't do anything for me. I think I was just too sick and full of pathogens. We have HCL in our stomach to kill bacteria and if we become too alkaline or take antacids that negates the much needed HCL that the body produces naturally and opens us up for invaders.

I also have read on different sites (one was for HIV) that some of the bacteria thrives in alkaline and dies in acid. I agree with Keebler that we need to eat as healthy as we can and use what we have available to go after the pathogens that are harmful.

Drinking too much sodium bicarb might not be the final solution. As Gael said, it will cancel stomach acidity, it will make difficult to digest high proteins like milk, meat, chicken...

Stomach acidity is the first 'barrier' to pathogens invading your GI tract thorugh food.

Short term sod bicarb, why not? Sanum proposes ingestion of sod. bicarb as the first step for any treatment of chronic diseases, but it is offered just in the beginning of the therapy, if my memory is good.

Then, they suggest total change of the internal milieu with anti-candida and other anti-infective substances, plus toxin detox.

So I agree with your guys above!

According to dr. K., the body detoxes only when acid. We need both alkaline and acid foods, but eating only one type might be not a good idea, in my opinion.

By acid foods, I don't mean eating white breads with pesticides and meats full of hormones and pesticides either, oversterilized milk, sweets and cakes... Of course not.

By acid foods I mean the best quality meat or vegetables one can get (if I understood well, not all veggies make us alkaline either?).

Having said that, I heard of a lady who got cancer as young (stomach cancer) and doctors gave up on her (they even didn't sew her stomach back well again because there was no point in doing that, and sent her to death home).

She stopped eating, did a long fast for about 40 days (she was already skinny by then), then became fully vegetarian up to now. Her cancer disappeared and today she's still alive, strong and active.

Whether her cancer receded due to fasting or veggie diet, I would bet that it was helped by fasting. Fasting for me was both anti-infective and anti-toxin as I felt like entering non-stop detox mode while fasting. And before my photon machine, that fasting I did for 2 weeks was what sent my remaining borrelia dormant!

But as for dr. Simoncini, I guess he may have hit into something, as he sends the sod.bicarb DIRECTLY to the affected area with cancer, through carefully chosen arteries. His videos on cancer treatment are impressive.

Hi brussels..

I have just read his miracle ph book and a lot of his ideas I dont buy into but his idea of flooding our bodies with 4 litres of alkaline water per day which he says is his most important idea strikes me worth experimenting with.

So good quality water is needed along with his ph drops which he admits somewhere can be substituted by sodium bicarbonate.

So I started yesterday adding half a teaspoon to each glass and I got a headache but i will continue.

He says we need this amount permanently.

We certainly need to make our bodies more akaline so .....

From his blog

I want to introduce an analogy here so you can think about your cells and how they are suspended in an alkaline fluid. Think of a fish bowl and the fish swimming around in the water. If the fish were to get sick what would be your first inclination? Would you treat the fish, or change the water? Most people would choose to change the fish's water--the environment he functions in. We realize that the fish needs a properly balanced environment to remain healthy. All of us have witnessed what happens when toxic calamities occur in the ocean. The fish are immediately affected by the change to their alkaline, pH-balanced ocean. Scientists claim that even small changes in the pH of the ocean will affect all life found in it. Think of your own cells as the fish in the fishbowl. Your cells are suspended in an aqueous solution which needs to be maintained as an alkaline environment. The cells can remain healthy as long as this pH factor is maintained. Once that inner terrain is compromised by unhealthy choices or extreme stressors, the cells can morph into unhealthy forms. Then we get sick and tired.

Another great discovery we made was that our bodies are alkaline by design, but acidic by function. This means that while our blood and tissues need to be kept in a delicate balance of 7.365, every function of our bodies, such as running, thinking, eating, and breathing produces acidic, metabolic waste products. There is also a scientific ratio which exists concerning how our body neutralizes these acid by- products. It takes 20 parts alkalinity to neutralize 1 part acidity in our systems. More specifically for you chemistry buffs; it takes 20 parts sodium bicarbonate to neutralize 1 part carbonic acid in the body. With this guiding information at our disposal, we then set out to create an ``alkalinizing'' lifestyle program that anyone with the desire for optimum health and radiance can follow. You simply eat and drink 80/20: 80% high-water-content, high-fiber, chlorophyll-rich, alkalinizing foods and drinks (like fresh vegetables from the garden), and 20% more grounding or mildly acidic foods such as sprouted wheat tortillas, cooked legumes/grains, or some oily fish or tofu. When you start changing your diet and lifestyle to this 80/20 ratio, you can achieve the ideal weight and radiant energy you've always desired. Before you commit to this healthy regimen, however, it's good to know more reasons why it would be so beneficial.

1. Our bodies break down to:

70% water

20% fat (give or take depending on your body type)

7% protein

1-2% vitamins and minerals

1/2-1% sugar. (ONLY 1/2-1% sugar)

To simplify, we could state that our bodies are 70% water and 30% matter. This is similar to our earth's composition, and also a good way to visualize each plate of food we eat. The majority of the food and drinks we ingest should replace our internal rivers and streams (our blood and lymph fluids) with fresh, alkalinizing hydration. This means food predominantly from the garden and the more chlorophyll-rich, the better. Try to think of your blood as a living streaming organ in your body that feeds and brings nutrients and oxygen to every other organ and system. Then realize that chlorophyll-- the ``blood'' of green plants, is molecularly structured almost identically to our own hemoglobin, an iron-containing protein in red blood cells that transports oxygen around the body. This would mean that chlorophyll might be considered one of the best blood transfusions we could ever get. Some even tout chlorophyll as a blood purifier. Even recently in the new Iron Man 2 movie, you see him was swigging on chlorophyll to slow down the toxicity in his degenerating blood.

In the chlorophyll molecule there is a center atom of magnesium which is an electromagnetic sync, or more simply put, the sun-sensitive element in the process of photosynthesis.

Dr. Klinik Bircher-Benner has said:

``Absorption and organization of sunlight, the very essence of life, is almost exclusively derived from plants. Plants are therefore a biological accumulation of light. Since light is the driving force of every cell in our bodies, that is why we need plants.''

With this understanding, we found that the best way to alkalize was to first drink 3-4 liters a day of alkaline water with a pH of 9 or above. Our choices of the most alkalizing foods was the next step. Moving towards an alkalinizing lifestyle wa

Checking arterial blood gas levels can measure whether or not one is suffering with metabolic acidosis.

While this is complex:

Extracellular buffers include bicarbonate and ***ammonia***, whereas ***proteins*** and ***phosphate*** act as intracellular buffers.

Ammonia...NH3...up.

Phosphate (PKC activated)...IS up.(Though Bb does have ONE PKC inhibitor...likely PKCB2.)

To add to the complexity...there are many FORMS of PKC.

P= Protein, K- kinase (these transfer phosphates) , C = calcium activated.

The body is attempting a work-around.

Bb, like other pathogens including HIV, trigger the P13K pathway.

Phosphoinositide 3-kinases

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphoinositide_3-kinase

Scroll down to the signal transduction pathways picture. Click on it to make it bigger. Cut, copy and paste it and drop it into a MS word file and print it out.

When we talk about "inflammatory cytokines"...look for them on the left side...follow the path.

When we talk about interleukins/serotonin...look for it at the top. (Bb is very dependent on tryptophan which converts to serotonin-melatonin AND to niacin.

Apotosis = cell death.

That pathway is a balance between allowing the infected *wounded* defense cells from living OR dying. See "survival factors" in the picture?

The defense cells are "wounded" because Bb is depleting them of nutrients they need to work.

Too many cells dying too fast = sepsis.

Alka Seltzer Gold may indeed help you to FEEL better, but BE better???

Impact of the "citrate" component?

Caution...we need our stomach to be very acidic in order to digest our food, so don't use it too close to meals.

P.S. "Light"...Mice infected with Bb when exposed to sunlight = worse infection. I suspect it may have to do with Hsp70 (up in the daytime).

That is one of OUR own and Bb's heat shock proteins.

Now...the "frequency of light" is 432 Hz which is a key lyme frequency for "Rifers".

This worried me would the frequency of light make lyme WORSE because normal light exposure does (at least in mice).

And then I realized...hey...our atmosphere dramatically alters the various lightwaves or corresponding frequencies that REACH us.

When light goes thru our ionosphere it impacts ELF waves (those are our brain waves).

ELF (extremely low frequency).

Research HAARP.

It is a project in Alaska.

Oh, my...

You can also add lemon juice.

I would compare it to to going to a spa where you drink the waters and gradually get less acidic.

But we need to be at this spa all year round to become less acidic!!!!

Anybody have other ideas of how to become more akaline apart from diet?

If you lower your stomach acid ongoing, you will NOT be able to digest food properly.

Not a good idea, IMO.

Our BENEFICIAL bacteria need nutrients too. They get them from foods we eat and digest.

Sea salt is an alkalizer, close to the composition of our own body fluids. It is an antibacterial, antiparasitic and it enhances the natural HCL that our own body produces if we are low in it.

Gael I agree and do add a little sea salt to my glass of water.

robert young also agree with us on this:

Both sea salt and rock salt were well known to the ancient Greeks who noted that eating salty food affected basic body functions such as digestion and excretion (urine and stools). This led to salt being used medically. The healing methods of Hippocrates (460 BC) especially made frequent use of salt. Salt-based remedies were thought to have expectorant powers. A mixture of water and salt was employed as an emetic.

Drinking a mixture of two-thirds cow's milk and one-third salt-water, in the mornings, on an empty stomach was recommended as a cure for diseases of the spleen. A mixture of salt and honey was applied topically to clean bad ulcers and salt-water was used externally against skin diseases and freckles.

Hippocrates also mentions inhalation of steam from salt-water. We know today that the anti-inflammatory effects of inhaled salt provide relief from respiratory symptoms.

Thus, 2000 years ago, Greek medicine had already discovered topical use of salt for skin lesions, drinking salty or mineralized waters for digestive troubles and inhaling salt for respiratory diseases!

The doctor and alchemist Paracelsus (1493-1541 A.D.) introduced an entirely new medical concept. He believed that external factors create disease and conceived a chemically oriented medical system which contrasted with the prevalent herbal medicine. Only salted food could be digested properly: 'The human being must have salt, he cannot be without salt. Where there is no salt, nothing will remain, but everything will tend to rot.'

He recommended salt water for the treatment of wounds and for use against intestinal worms. A hip-bath in salt water was a superb remedy for skin diseases and itching: 'This brine - he said - is better than all the health spas arising out of nature.' He described the diuretic effect of salt consumption and prescribed salt preparations of different strengths that were used for instance against constipation.

'In recent years there has been much publicity about the need to reduce salt consumption in societies where salt is added to many processed foods (Denton 1984, 584-7).

It has tended to be forgotten that some salt intake is absolutely necessary; that people need salt, sodium chloride, to survive: The chemical requirements of the human body demand that the salt concentration in the blood be kept constant. If the body does not get enough salt, a hormonal mechanism compensates by reducing the excretion of salt in the urine and sweat. But it cannot reduce this output to zero.

On a completely salt-free diet the body steadily loses small amounts of salt via the kidneys and sweat glands. It then attempts to adjust this by accelerating its secretion of water, so that the blood's salt concentration can be maintained at the vital level. The result is a gradual desiccation of the body and finally death.' Roy Moxham

An eight-year study of a New York City hypertensive population stratified for sodium intake levels found those on low-salt diets had more than four times as many heart attacks as those on normal-sodium diets -the exact opposite of what the 'salt hypothesis' would have predicted. (1995)

Dr. Jeffrey R. Cutler documented no health outcomes benefits of lower-sodium diets. Salt Institute

A past president of the American Heart Association, Dr. Suzanne Oparil of the University of Alabama-Birmingham, said her personal view is that the government may have been too quick to recommend that everyone cut back. 'Salt restriction as a solitary recommendation for the population for the prevention or the treatment of hypertension.

An abundance of the ingredients in unrefined real salt are as synonymous with life today as they were a billion years ago before single cells appeared here. Lack of them is synonymous with birth defects, organ failure, decay, diseases, premature aging and death at a young age.

The problem with salt is not the salt itself but the condition of the salt we eat - refined! Major producing companies dry their salt in huge kilns with temperatures reaching 1200 degrees F, changing he salt's chemical structure, which in turn adversely affects the human body.

The facts are that in the heating process of salt, the element sodium chloride goes off into the air as a gas. What remains is sodium hydroxate which is irritating to the system and does not satisfy the body's hunger and need for sodium chloride. Sodium and chloride are two of the 12 daily essential minerals.

In countries which do not alter their salt supply, heart disease and arthritis are so rare that many doctors have never seen a case. Their salt is dried from the ocean by the sun. Many people believe that salt is harmful to the human body.

The truth is we cannot live without sodium or chloride-salt. From salt the body makes sodium bicarbonate which is one of the essential compounds for alkalizing the food we eat. Also, from salt the body makes iron for producing the hemoglobin of the red blood cell.

Cl + O Mn + H Fe or

chloride + Oxygen = Manganese + Hydrogen = Iron.

There is not enough natural salt in our foods, so we must supplement our diet. When salt is withheld, weakness and sickness follow.

Try this experiment: Mix a spoonful of salt in a glass of water and let it stand overnight. If the salt collects on the bottom of the glass, it has been processed.

NATURAL SALT DISSOLVES! Salt that will not dissolve in water cannot dissolve in your body. Any foreign substance that collects in the body organs and tissues will eventually result in malfunctioning of essential body processes: heart disease, arthritis, hardening of the body tissues and arteries, calcium deposits in the joints, etc. Natural organic salt (saline) will not cause calcification in your body. Real sea salt can dissolve damaging calcium deposits in the body.

Science and medicine have tried to define the precise roles of salt in the healthy and diseased human organism. Blood, sweat, and tears all contain salt, and both the skin and the eyes are protected from metabolic acids from the effects of salt. When salt is added to a liquid, particles with opposite charges are formed: a positively charged sodium ion and a negatively charged chloride ion.

This is the basis of osmosis which regulates fluid pressure within living cells and protects the body against excessive water loss (as in diarrhea or on heavy sweating).

Sodium and chloride ions, as well as potassium ions, create a measurable difference in potential across cell membranes. This ensures that the fluid inside living cells remains separate from that outside. Thus, although the human body consists mainly of water, our 'inner ocean' does not flow away or evaporate. Sodium ions create a high pressure of liquid in the kidneys and thus regulate their metabolic function.

Water is extracted through the renal drainage system. The body thus loses a minimal amount of essential alkaline water. Out of 1500 liters of blood which pass daily through the kidneys, only about 1.5 liters of liquid leave the body as urine.

Salt is 'fuel' for nerves. Streams of positively and negatively charged ions send impulses to nerve fibers. A muscle cell will only contract if an impulse reaches it. Nerve impulses are partly propelled by co-ordinated changes in charged particles.

Fish from the ocean will die quickly if placed in a solution of refined salt and water. The sodium chloride, in its form as it comes from the refinery, is actually poisonous to them. Bottom line, is that yes it can be harmful to consume too much refined salt, but you cannot consume too much natural unrefined liquid real salt.

For more information on the healthful benefits of real mineral sea salt go to:

In conclusion the question, "does salt cause high blood pressure?" The answer is absolutely NOT! High blood pressure is caused by dietary and metabolic acids that are not being properly eliminated through urination, defecation, perspiration and respiration. The truth is, you do not get high blood pressure you do high blood pressure with your lifestyle and dietary choices. Sodium chloride is the key to reducing and normalizing blood pressure and maintaining healthy pulse rate below 70 beats a minute.

Balance is the key. When Bircher Brenner was alive, our world was not as contaminated as it is today. People didn't live in cars traveling, they did not have to deal with genetically engineered potatoes or corn and they certainly did not have to deal with chemtrails, or worse consume meat from billion dollar animal farms.

Our worst toxins, mercury, lead, cadmium, etc. will only go into solution to be detoxed in the body's acidic environment. That is one of the first lessons I got from my doctor, Dr.K. The trick is to retain a balanced pH for the body to be able to dispose of these toxins every day and avoid accumulation which will eventually end in disaster.

Take care.

The body, like I said above, IS trying to buffer the system.

Our blood is supposed to be slightly alkaline and our kidneys balance the acid-alkaline/base.

Too many acids are very harmful to the kidney cells. This is why the ketogenic diet (only fats and proteins) is so dangerous.

An acid is a compound which donates a hydrogen ion (H+) to another compound (called a base).

Now...there are different forms of hydrogen ions...H+ and H-

The H- ion actually has TWO electrons in its outer ring.

H+ has one electron in its outer ring.

In H-, the 2 electrons share the same orbit.

In ionic compounds hydrogen can take a negative charge (an anion known as a hydride and written as H−), or as a positively charged species H+.

When we need electron transfer, H- is a real helper.

I saw a picture of both of these (H- and H+) just the other day while researching.

I don't know which file it is in...

Been doing a ton of research on light.

This might help (skim):

http://h-minus-ion.vpinf.com/

Others who chose not to skim the above...H- is an ANTIOXIDANT.

I am VERY aware of our need for hydrogen.

Specifically...16 hydrogens.

It took me a LONG time to find this...H16 is a classification for VASCULAR DISEASES.

I have the list of things that contain H16 in them...

ATP...C10H16N5O13P3

Caprylic Acid...C8H16O2

(though supposedly it is the # of carbons that makes the difference)...

Etc....including, I might add...Rocephin = C18H16N8Na2O7S3*3.5H2O.

I was trying to figure out the "H16" connection. I "saw" it a long time ago.

Okay....vascular...Bb first infects the epithelial cells. Eventually it camps out in the basement membranes which are really close to our blood vessels.

Google: basement membranes

To see a picture of the location.

Yes...lyme IS a "vascular" disease problem.

I wonder what is in our Army's "H16" kits.

There is, IMO, a huge problem with acids...we are using the wrong one...Omega 6, not Omega 3.

Our diet is very skewed to the Omega 6 fatty acids which -> AA = Arachidonic Acid -> prostaglandin 2 series...not good.

http://www.cbn.com/health/naturalhealth/drsears_arachidonicacid.aspx

Yes...we are too acidic...the wrong acid is being used, IMO.

Acids dissolve minerals. It takes a LOT of acids to dissolve a mineral.

When I was in chem. class in high school, we did an experiment that I will never forget.

We used hydrochloric acid to dissolve aluminum (a strip). We "captured" something in a test tube held upside down over this reaction.

Then the teacher told us to be very very careful...and

light (heat, bunsen burner - sp?) it.

BOOM!

We had just ignited hydrogen!

Energy was released.

And indeed, we are trying to figure out how to disrupt Bb from doing this: NAD to NADH.

Complex, isn't this?!

Watch for the ***

"Inosine 5′-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) is the rate-limiting enzyme in de novo guanine nucleotide biosynthesis.

***IMPDH converts***

IMP to xanthosine 5′-monophosphate with concomitant conversion of

***NAD+ to NADH. ***

All IMPDHs characterized to date contain a 130-residue ``subdomain'' that extends from an N-terminal loop of the α/β barrel domain.

The role of this subdomain is unknown.

An IMPDH homolog has been cloned from
Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease (Margolis, N., Hogan, D., Tilly, K., and Rosa, P. A. (1994)J. Bacteriol. 176, 6427-6432)."

I agree with GiGi- balance is key. It's good to eat a healthy diet but the body automatically balances the pH. We don't need to do it excessively. Taking some lemon water, baking soda, or Alka Seltzer Gold will not hurt on occasion. I don't think we need to do it all of the time.

HAARP...defense/communication...or weather impact?

We know...already...for fact... that in a couple of years (not giving out the exact date here for reasons)...that there are going to be a LOT of solar flares (which DO impact communication).

4 amino acids make up DNA (ours and Bb's)...

adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine.

Did you catch the mention of guanine in my above post?

"guanine nucleotide biosynthesis"

Bb is robbing us of so many friggin nutrients.

Bb uses NaCl for motility. (I've linked that a LOT of times.)

Calcium activated chloride channels...

Guess what Frontline blocks and the drug Tamoxifen.

Reminds me of the traveling salesman who showed up at my sister's house & poured some clear vinegar over what turned out to be baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, of course).
Said it was creating oxygen & would help nutrify & heal her skin. (Her skin was fine. She was 21.)
Don't think a person was ever chased out of her house as fast as he.

Sorry to be cynical but bakin' soda is GREAT to treat acid spills on clothes (so they don't develop holes... that grOw), add to bath water, make bread & pancakes rise, help with heartburn & work as a basic toothpaste.
But I don't see it helping cure too many diseases... or cancers, for that matter.
{burp!}
Now, eating a [primarily] vegetarian diet to reduce the acidity in our bodies &, consequently, lower our chances of developing harmful cancers... I think That idea has some merit.

For the moment I have decided to reduce my dose to one teaspoon for each litre as mentioned below. I have feeling a little overstimulated.

You Are What You Drink
by Bonnie Murphy

``Water is not only a mirror reflecting our mind--water is the source of life.''

~Masaru Emoto

If you don't drink enough water--and most Americans don't--you can and will compromise your health and body. How long can a person stay alive without water? It's fascinating that you can live 30 days without food, but you can't exist for over 72 hours without water.

Our bodies are made up of 70% water. Each day we lose up to 2% of that in our everyday activities. If we do an hour of exercise, we lose even more. It's a proven fact that if you lose 2% or more of your body water, you are de-hydrated. The average adult loses 21/2 to 3 liters of fluid a day through sweating, breathing, urinating, moving, even sleeping. Thus, the body becomes dehydrated.

A survey done for the Nutrition Information Center at Cornell Medical Center revealed that 10% of those polled admitted to drinking no water at all! The average person gets only about 1 liter (approximately 35 ounces) of liquid a day. Much of that liquid comes from acidic coffee, tea, and soft drinks--many of which actually rob your body of water.

When we exercise, especially outdoors in the winter, we need to really hydrate your body. When I speak about hydration, I am talking about drinking good water. Some of the water that we drink is not good and I'll cover that later. However, if we don't get enough water, our bodies will actually retain water and then we'll feel bloated and uncomfortable and will appear fatter than we already are.

I've advised many clients to drink water in order to help with leg cramps. The reason this works is because water works to wash the acids out of our bodies. When we exercise, we stir up all kinds of toxins and acids. If they aren't washed out of the body, they will lodge in the muscles or joints and cause cramping and aching. In this sense, it's obvious that water is a cell cleanser--and it is clear that we already need to drink more!

Good water and pH factors

Good water is defined as water having a pH of greater than 7.365 (the natural pH of the human body). Tests have been done on several popular brands of bottled water and it's shameful to see how we are wasting our money. Most bottled water is nothing more than municipal water that has been run through a filter. Take the Coke product, Dasani, or the Pepsi product, Aquafina--both are bottled from municipal water supplies; nothing else has been done! Buying bottled water is no assurance that it is any safer or healthier than tap water.

Not many bottled water companies list their pH factor, but Evian has a pH of 7.53 and Dannon Spring Water of 7.84--thus, both are ``good'' water. If in doubt about the pH of your tap water, take it in for testing. To get your water (whether bottled or tap) to an alkaline state of 7.365 or higher, just add a teaspoon or two of baking soda to each 32 ounces of water that you drink. Baking soda added to water not only increases the pH, but also releases oxygen in the water, increasing its energy potential. Dr. Robert O. Young, in his book The pH Miracle for Weight Loss, recommends that you drink water that has a pH of 9.5 to 11.5. (There are some machines available for purchase that will alkalize your water right at your kitchen sink.)

It takes about 20 parts alkaline to cancel out 1 part acid. So, if you want to drink a cup of acidic coffee and are concerned about your body's pH balance, you would have to drink 20 cups of ``good'' water to cancel out the acid that is created in your body from drinking the one cup of coffee. (It doesn't matter if it's caffeinated or decaf--it's all acid causing.)

Get thin: drink water!

If you are one of the 75% of Americans that don't drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water daily, then I would suggest you work up to your recommended amount of water. A good rule of thumb would be to add 8 ounces of water a day for as many days as is needed to get to your required amount. If you weigh 210 lbs you'll need at least 5 1/2 liters; if you exercise, the number goes up to 7 liters daily.

When you give your body more water, you'll crave more, and you'll drink more. The more you get the more you want. It's so good for you because the job of good water is to neutralize acids, dilute excess acid, and literally wash them (and all the toxins) out of your body via urine, sweat and through the bowels. Without enough water your body becomes too acidic and goes into a preservation and fat-storing mode.

This is partly why the answer to weight loss is to drink more water. Think about it. If not drinking enough water causes bloating, and your body goes into preservation mode, doesn't it make sense that if you drank one liter of good water for every 30 to 40 lbs of body weight, you could lose some pounds?

Hydrate!

In Alaska (and especially in the dry winter time) we really need to think about hydration. The definition of hydration is to supply water in order to restore or maintain fluid balance.

A mere 2% drop in body water has been shown to cause muddled thinking, short-term memory problems, trouble with basic math, difficulty expressing oneself verbally, and difficulty focusing on a computer screen or the printed page. Light-headiness and cold hands and feet can also result. The list goes on: anxiety, irritability, depression, sugar cravings, and cramps.

If you are out cross country skiing and become dehydrated, you could get so confused that you won't know how to get back to your car or house. Always carry good drinking water with you! Try to drink one liter (approximately 35 ounces) for every 40 pounds of body weight each day. If you exercise, then you should be drinking one liter per every 30 pounds of body weight daily.

When you are participating in winter sports, use the formula of one liter to each 30 pounds of body weight and you will keep your body's fluid balance in check. (For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking 5 liters of good water daily.) Have a great winter: drink water!

From the above website

Drink water every 30 minutes to keep fully hydrated. Dr. Robert O. Young suggests that the average person drink 1 liter for every 40 lbs of body weight and 1 liter for every 30 lbs if you exercise or sweat a lot.

would people here agree on this advice?

A reminder to those adding baking soda to water or to foods: be sure to buy aluminum-free baking soda.

While not mentioned in the list of ingredients, I believe aluminum is somehow used in the production of common cheap baking soda.

Bob's Mills sells aluminum -free.

(I'm not related to Bob.)

Closing and moving to General Support, to leave more room for medical questions directly relating to Lyme disease.
