I'm getting so I'm paranoid about goingg outside and taking the kids out. I know he got it just by walking out to the car and back. Now I'm afraid he's going to be stricken with this terrible disease. He's only 2. I'm going to be watching him like a hawk and driving myself crazy over the next couple of weeks.

Save the tick and have it tested. Don't let yourself be talked out of it by some man who thinks all women worry too much.

You didn't say if the tick was embedded or if you just found it on him.
If it was imbedded and you still have it, send it to Igenex or another lab that does PCR testing. (See www.ignenex.com for form)
If it wasn't embedded, I wouldn't worry about it, but consider using a tick prevention spray in the future. See the blog "Touched by Lyme" for a consumer reports review on sprays. Some are more natural than others.
If you don't have the tick, or if it was embedded and is the type of tick known to carry Lyme in your area, get him on a few weeks of Doxy or until the test comes back.
This is the general protocol I have been told by more than one doc.

I think the tick was backing out as it looked "full" and there was a red streak mark on my son's leg about a centimeter long and I didn't have any problem removing it.
I'm pretty sure it is the kind of tick that carries lyme as at first I thought it was just a fleck of dirt it is so small.
Anyone know how much the test is?
I wanted him put on doxy but his ped won't do it unles he starts showing signs. They said the line he has is normal after any tick bite.
Just a musing from my lyme fogged brain but if the marking my son has from his tick bite is normal why do so many people not know they even got bit by a tick?

Not all ticks are infected, but this would worry me. And most doctors want you to wait until symptoms begin. But sometimes they don't start right away, and later are mistaken for something else.

I would definitely have the tick tested if you cannot find a doc to put him on doxy. It may seem like a lot, but so much cheaper than finding out later that it was infected, IMO.

It's too soon for him to be showing any signs right?
The only reason I'm asking is that he's running a low grade fever and is real cranky (then again he's 2 and his sister is also sick as of today).
