"I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God" (Ephesians 3:16-19 NLT).

posted 08-24-2010 12:52 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm really struggling right now with the Book of Amos and that God causes all disasters, including 9/11...he is behind them and causes destruction to punish us for our sins. Any comments? I went to a new church Sunday. Have not been to church in years, and that was what the sermon was about. Really shook me up. I thought God was good and these events were not his will but the will of man. The Preacher talked about how it IS God's actions and they are punishment....that not many churches read from the book of Amos but that we must know everything and take it all in.

Good afternoon friends,
Dekrator... Thanks for showing tracy a link to find her answer. You know that one was way over my head
Trying to limit my questions to one post a week.
I have been reading Psalms a chapter/scripture? a day...well most days; yes, I think it's called a chapter, sorry losing where I am going.
I have a ESV bible and this word keeps popping up Selah? What does this mean? Examples: Psalm 77:09 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His compassion? SELAH?
Psalm 77:15 You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. SELAH?
I looked at the bottom of the page, I looked in the back of the Book, and I looked in bible gateway...nope, couldn't find a thing.

MDW,
This is from Wikipedia:
Selah (Hebrew: סֶלָה, also transliterated as selāh) is a word used frequently in the Hebrew Bible, often in the Psalms, and is a difficult concept to translate. (It should not be confused with the Hebrew word sela` (Hebrew: סֶלַע) which means "rock.")
It is probably either a liturgico-musical mark or an instruction on the reading of the text, something like "stop and listen". "Let those with eyes see and with ears hear" is most concise.[citation needed]
"Selah" can also be used to indicate that there is to be a musical interlude at that point in the Psalm.[1] The Amplified Bible states Selah as "pause, and think of that".
The Psalms were sung accompanied by musical instruments and there are references to this in many chapters. Thirty-one of the thirty-nine psalms with the caption "To the choir-master" include the word "Selah".
Selah notes a break in the song and as such is similar in purpose to Amen in that it stresses the importance of the preceding passage.
Alternatively, Selah may mean "forever", as it does in some places in the liturgy (notably the second to last blessing of the Amidah).
Another interpretation claims that Selah comes from the primary Hebrew root word [calah] which means "to hang", and by implication to measure (weigh).[2]
Also "Selah" is the name of a city from the time of David and Solomon.[3]

Thanks Dekrator, but that just zoooomed right over me ending with a...What?
before I close for the night friends I have one more little bitty guestion.... hey now I can still ask a guestion, I am still in the first day of asking
My question is.... when you were first taking your journey with the Lord, was it difficult for you to not worry about what other people thought of you? Such as Oh, she is one of those "Bible thumpers" and did you turn your christian music down while stopped at a red light with your window down so the person next to you wouldn't hear what you were listening to? Or praying out loud/silent and have to stop in the middle of prayer and put God on hold so know one would hear you...."Time out God, someone just walked in the room."
See?...sometimes I don't know if it's THEM or it's ME? I was one of those that ran away from bible people. Am I still one of them? I feel like I AM. Some days I have to ask myself ...Am I ashamed of God and have to hide Him? Why are the people around me more important?

I'm reading a book called "If God is good" by Randy Alcorn. Best book I've read in years. I would highly recommend it for everyone here.
It discusses God and evil and suffering and difficult times. Gives biblical references to answer the questions we all have.
I only read a page or two at a time because the truth is humbling and freeing and I don't even have to words to explain it. It is good to understand.
God is good.
Find a way to get this book. Ask your local library to order it for you if you can't buy your own copy.

Dear "God Thought" Friends,
I was out of town a couple of days (having a "tune up" at the Hansa Center...look forward to sharing on that later). We just arrived back home tonight.
What a blessing to read your posts on "God Thought" also read the links and listen to the songs you posted.
What a wonderful blessing you all are. I thank God for each of you!
Amelia,
AMEN! To experience "light and strength and His Love..." is more beautiful than words can express! Thank You for reminding us by sharing those words.
Tracy,
Thank you for sharing last week on "God Thought". So glad MDW reposted that on this week's "God Thought". WOW! You ask a loaded question. Dekrator, thanks for including the link "World Trace Center Difficult Questions" in response. Tracy, sure hope that helps. I just read the link. Great food for thought and approached the subject from many angles.
Ultimately on the other side we will see how it all played out..if hindsight is 20/20 just imagine how heavensight will be!
MDW,
You ask, "when you were first taking your journey with the Lord, was it difficult for you to not worry about what other people thought of you?"
Two thoughts come to my mind:
1) I was so excited on my "honeymoon" with Jesus that I didn't worry about it at first and ironically I should have. I was immature in my faith, was zealous for the Lord, and did not always use wisdom when sharing with people.
2) I worried about what people thought of me way before I was a Believer. So, after I became a Believer, after the "honeymoon" wore off, I continued that habit.
Anyway...as I've grown in my walk with the Lord I've been set free to love myself and be who God made me. At the same time I realize I am not all God wants me to be yet. I am still on this journey of being transformed more and more into the image of Jesus. And MDW you are too. Big Smile. God ain't finished with us yet. Bigger Smile. He loves us soooooo much!! Biggerest Smile!!!
Sorry you had a "rocky day yesterday" and so glad you're "back"! The song you shared, "Voice of Hope" brought happy tears to my eyes. He is "the anchor". He is the same yesterday, today, and forever--I like that kind of faithful! Great truths in the song.
Dekrator,
Thank you for sharing about "Selah". I am always learning! So glad you are here on "God Thought". What a blessing you are to all of us.
I'm going to share three of the possible meanings from that Wiki article you posted. "Selah" is a Hebrew word in the Bible used often in the Psalms. Just like in English a word can have several meanings, so the word "Selah" has several possible meanings such as:
* The verse you just read, stop and think about what it means, stop and think about how it applies to you, then continue on to the next verse.
* A break in the song...giving time for people to say, "Amen" as they realize the importance of what they just sang.
* May mean "forever".
sammy,
I read the book, "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn...WOW...one of the best books I have ever read. I look forward to checking out that book "If God is good"! Sounds like a great read.
Amelia,
AMEN! Beautiful song "No Matter What"...we CAN make it with His help!

Daisy, We have not done "fill in the blanks" for short while now.
This I read from meet me in the meadow and I can't fill in the blanks...Can YOU?
"I am with you always" Matthew 28:20 NKJV
What is God telling us when He says ``I am with you always?'' Here are some things I hear Him saying...
I am near. Don't doubt my presence for a single moment. I have promised you. I am the true and faithful God. Be as certain of Me fulfilling my promise as I was when I first spoke it. Don't doubt it. Let your heart be quiet with this assurance! I am with you because I care about you. I am with you because I love you. I am with you because I want to be with you. I am with you because I desire to have fellowship with you. There will never be a time, a moment, a second when you are without me. I am with you now. With you tomorrow. With you in the dark times. With you in the hard times. With you in the glad times. With you through all the times of your life--when you are young, when you are old, when you are busy, when you are still, when you journey and when you return home.
What do you hear God saying to you through this promise? ________, ________, ________
I think the author said it all already...HMMM? Diane
Ps...Oh...Oh NO! I did not just say the word "can't"... I "can with Him", just not yet.

Diane- that is an awesome post. I was so moved by your reflections on Matthew 28:20.
He is indeed with us always... I will dwell on this before I go to sleep tonight... can I do my fill in the blanks there.
Just wanted to thank you all... Daisy, Dekerator, 17 Hens, Sammy et all for being shining examples of HIS LOVE.
Peaceful dreams and healing -- Love, Amy

Pretty cool Awesome God
Ohh wow,(I am whispering to myself ohh wow) I just noticed something...thats crazy! I ask about the book...Meet me in the Meadow's God's promises above that I posted...the book found me...Now I own the BOOK and the book. What a thump on the forehead again.

Hi friends,
Once again I am enjoying reading what everyone wrote.
MDW,
I enjoyed those reflections on Matthew 28:20 by the author of Meet Me in the Meadow.
How awesome that "God's Promises to You" found you today at Kohl's! (I love Kohls, btw!)
That was so nice of your neighbor to buy it for you, and for you to take her shopping.
daisy,
I am really touched by that scripture...Ephesians 5:1-2. "Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do...."
I try to remind myself of that often, so thank you.
Today I am thanking God for good timing when it comes to a mini-disaster we had at our house this morning.
I was getting ready to leave our house about 7:55 am when I heard water running in our downstairs.
I went down and found our water softener leaking at a rapid rate all over the floor.
Although the water covered some of the floors (including carpet) and soaked a little bit of drywall and other things, I think it had only been leaking for maybe 10 minutes or so.
I was able to turn the water off, call the water softener people and start cleaning up the mess.
I called our insurance co, a mitigation co. ($650-$1300 estimate for using large fans and a dehumidifier to remove the water!).
If I had left our house 15 minutes sooner, or if this had happened during the night or when we were not home, it would have been so much worse.
I am drying out the wet part of our downstairs with fans after using a wet-vac and many towels.
Our air comditioning should help remove the moisture from the air.
So...today hasn't gone exactly as planned, but I am grateful for good timing.

Dekrator... what a blessing indeed. His timing never ceases to amaze me. I am sorry that you had some cleanup but goodness... you are right... it could have been SOOOO much worse. God is so good! I think after lyme - everything is seen in its proper perspective
MDW Thanks for clarifying and for pasting. I will need to get that book too. How nice of you to take your neighbor and for her to purchase God's promises for you... You know, I have been looking for that book too. Glad it found you
Daisy: I love the verse... imitating God is what we all should strive for. I can remember when my mom was so sick and I asked God, what do you want me to do here... I was so distraught and He clearly said, I want you to be me to her (represent Him) in all I did for her... And I tried my best... Those were beautiful times. What is another Godincidence is today is her birthday... she is now celebrating in heaven... I will always miss her...
I don't know if I can take anymore of these Godincidences... I truly don't feel worthy...
Thank you all for shining your light in my life... It has meant more than I can say...

Dekrator,
You're not going to believe this...but I know you will...I almost posted that same verse today Psalm 16:11. So glad you posted it! Obviously God wanted it posted today! Glad at least one of us was obedient.
I sure agree with you...I, too, am thankful for each person who comes to "God Thought" and shares with all of us. It IS such an encouragement and blessing to me!
Sorry about that "mini-disaster" you had. At the same time, I am so thankful, as you are, as that could have been so much worse. Seems things worked out. WOW! That timing was amazing. You sure do have a great attitude. What a reflector of God's Light. You do shine bright!
MDW,
I really like that song and have listened to it at work, off and on today.
So glad you sense God leading you. I can't think of many things better than that. In fact, that is what I need now...for God to lead...we have some changes looming on the horizon for us. And I am trusting, knowing that He will lead. My goodness, we've been Believers for over 30 years and He's always led us in the past.
Thanks for sharing about your "Kohls" experience. That was great. God sure sees the desires of our heart, and like the "Lover of our Soul" that He is...He moves heaven and earth to fulfill those desires. Talk about crazy love (that's the title of a recent book I read "Crazy Love".) Seriously, God's so crazy in love with us. And am I ever glad!!! Whew!!
Thanks for sharing on "Meet Me in the Meadow". Roy Lessins devotional is so great. OK, fill in the blanks...three blanks...let me think...(it's late, well, not too late but past my bedtime tonight...but I'll give it a go)...
"What do I hear God saying to me through this promise, 'I am with you always'"? Hmmmmm:
In the day or in the night I am with you always.
In the wrong or in the right I am with you always.
In the dark or in the light I am with you always.
Why? Because we are precious in His sight! Why? Because He loves us with all His might! Why? Because He paid the price and won the fight!
Anyway...that is my three...
Amelia
You are a shining light for the Lord. Sure glad you're here on "God Thought". Peaceful dreams and healing...I receive it...and soon I will be hitting the hay. Ahhhhhhh!!!!

I just posted above and then saw your recent post above mine. Inspiring to read.
I agree the way timing works out and the Godincidences that happen...it is amazing. There is only one explanation... God really IS Crazy In Love with us! Isn't that great!
Awww, today is your mother's birthday. I know you miss her. What a blessed hope we do have and what a great celebration there will be one day when all the family is together. I shall look forward to meeting you face to face AND your mom!
OK, my bed is calling me. Good Night Friends.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for JOY, and with my song I praise Him" (Psalm 28:7).
I am praising Him today with this song, "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)" Chris Tomlin

Daisy... you have done it again... I love the Psalm and I am going to hang that one too...
I loved the song as as well... I had a moment during that song of tears of joy that God has provided to the degree that he has -- He is our HEALER, our Comforter and our Provider and by HIS LOVE and GRACE our FEARS are gone... Indeed, Perfect Love casts out fear... To rest in that is such a beautiful place... And I think with Lyme it is required so that we can put our energy into healing... and Believing and Thanking GOD ahead of time for the healing he has already done...
I am going to write in my journal today as the Godincidences abound...
Enjoy your day Dekerator and MDW too... and of course Daisy... And all of our God Friends...

Ok a promise, I will give it a try.
Do not look down in your flight Look up with all your might
Do not fear I am here
I will not leave You must believe
I am sincere For you are dear
When life feels grim And the light seems dim
On Daisy's sight You see my light
It shines so bright With christian delight.

Continue to enjoy the day, friends!!

Dekrator,
Thank you so much... I almost deleted it after I wrote it. I did have to go back, some words were not spelled correctly..Thanks for over looking them. Soccer games are so much fun, I can't keep my feet still when I watch my grandson play. I catch myself kicking an invisable ball.
I hope you had a wonderful time. Is your son still with you?

Good Morning everyone on this Lord's Day. It is great to be alive and living in the Light!
Amelia, I so agree with you...you share, "And I think with Lyme it is required so that we can put our energy into healing... and Believing and Thanking GOD ahead of time for the healing he has already done..."
I know that I am healed...and it is manifesting itself each day more and more. He DOES make ALL things beautiful in His time. Hallelooooo!!!
MDW, You are very gifted in writing. WOW, I am so blessed by your poem...I keep going back and reading it...WOW! Sure glad you didn't delete it or all of us would have missed the blessing. I enjoy watching my grandchildren do...well, anything...
Dekrator, Again just want you to know that I appreciate you, your faithfulness, and being a special "God Thought" friend to....all of us.
1 John 1:1-4,
The Word of Life
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete."
EVERYONE have a great day filled with JOY! TGIS!!!!! Posts: 2188 | From Oklahoma | Registered: May 2008

Dear God friends,
I am feeling low right now.
My son, home on leave, just told me that he and his fiance broke up...it just wasn't working out.
He said he will be fine and not to make a big deal out of it...but I am worried that he will not be so fine when he goes back.
I feel as if many of the relationships that I held dear have crumbled, and it makes me very sad.
Please pray for all of us.
Thank you.

Dekrator... I am so very sorry for your pain. Try and enjoy the time you have with your son and God will work out the rest. I will pray for you and your family.
Daisy, I really, really liked "The Word of Life" I leared this in church today:
Keep your lives free and be content with what you have; for He has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you. The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid."
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
and...and, something you have said many times, I have heared... Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
There was more..gospel spoke about a banquet... but my ears were kindof in and out because my poem had a line in it that didn't rhyme and it was really bugging me in church today. So I had to fix that line in my poem
You also have a Joy filled day.
Diane

Daisy...
One of the commanments is to keep Sunday Holy, right?...Right. I am going to sound like my grandson and manipulate this commandment.
If I read all day my eyes go cross eyed. I don't watch much tv; and my hiney doesn't sit still long before I start to get the wiggles. Sooooo.... If I see dog fur on the rugs I want to vacuum. If I go outside I want to weed my flower garden If there are close in the dryer I want to fold. I have to make the beds, that will drive me crazy.
If I enjoy(you said to have a day with Joy)doing these things, and more....Am I breaking the commandment? I mean.. I'm not cleaning out a toilet or ironing that's no fun. I find it difficult to put blinders on when things need to be done.

All of us know to well what it is like when life doesn't go as planned....
Lean on us... we are here. Sending you a big cyber hug.
Daisy- Thank you. I love the Word of Life. In order to BELIEVE, we must claim that His spirit as it overcame the grave is in us and can overcome anything... I loved that the Word of Life reminded me of this as I am so focused on conquering with his strength and I do thank him moment to moment for my healing...
MDW- what a beautiful poem. You are so thoughtful. Thank you for sharing what you heard in church: Keep your lives free and be content with what you have; for He has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you. The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid."
I needed that reminder today! You know this group never ceases to amaze me .... God is truly working through us all to help each other so profoundly... Godincidences.... they are my favorite! Better than chocolate any day!
Blessings and restful sleep to you all- Amy

Hello "God Thought" Friends,
Dekrator,
Awwww, sorry you have been feeling low. It does hurt when relationships turn out differently than what we thought...and especially when we're concerned about how that will affect someone we love. Andrew is blessed to have a supportive and loving mom, YOU, and I'm praying for you and him (and the other situation in your family too).
May God give His peace that is beyond understanding. God is able to do more than we ask, think, or even imagine!!! That's our amazing God!
May your spirits be lifted today!!!
MDW,
Glad you shared about "The Word of Life" from the service at your church. Beautiful truths you shared with us. Thank You! HIS WORD is words of life...now and forever!
I sure like those Graemlins that you find and add to your posts. Cool.
You ask another good question...regarding Sunday "the Sabbath" being Holy. There is controversy about this subject and various opinions. OK, so here is my copout...Smile. I encourage you to do a google search and read about what the various opinions are.
I will say this, we do need a day of rest for our body and mind, so that we can be energized, and it is a day for our spirits' too to be refreshed.
At the same time Jesus made the point that it is good to do good on the sabbath.
I like to look at everyday as a Holy Day. Each breath we take is from God and it is a holy breath. Everyday is a day to live for God, our Sustainer, and to live for others and do good.
About seeing stuff that needs to be taken care of...like the dog fur on the rug and that making you feel "crazy"...just my two cents, if it's making me feel "crazy" on_my_goodness I'd just vacuum it up no matter what day it was.
By all means have fun on the Sabbath.
Again, your three fill in the blanks...great poem!
Amelia,
Yes, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us! Isn't that great?!! Jesus does give us strength...He is our Helper...He is always with us...We do not need to be afraid. I love those truths, too, that MDW shared...and the ones you shared. These truths have given me stability and....everything else.
Godincidences...Better than chocolate any day! Oh, that's rich. I'm going to remember that the next time I'm craving chocolate.
"God Thought" Friends, I will close with this thought (inspired by MDW)...by all means have fun on the Sabbath and, and, and, every second of everyday.
Onto this week's new "God Thought"...see you theeeeeeeeere ummm a little later today. Thank you all for your grace to me.
