I have Lyme with a coinfection of Bartonella. I've developed CONSTANT ringing / buzzing in my ears since starting treatment, and it keeps getting worse. Does anything help alleviate this? I'm a musician, and my hands are already in so much pain that I can't play guitar anymore (do you guys think they'll ever heal???!)
I've been in treatment for almost 4 months (all oral meds / vitamins). I just want to do everything I can to get my life back. I went undiagnosed for about a year, so the Doc thinks I will be in treatment for about 2 years. Any insight would be appreciated.

- I can't remember how I filed this - or where I put the folder -- I'll look for my links later (as I, too, play guitar) . . . search: Flip Breskin. She has a page on ergonomics.
Get the "Neck Up" Guitar support on her page. You might be able to search that to find its own site. I'll check back later or tomorrow and add a set of links I collected on this in case you don't find it.
But, you may have to stop playing guitar for a while. It's important not to further damage your wrists. Do look over Flip's site. She had to stop playing for a year or two and developed a program to help others. But she is very firm to stop playing the instant there is pain. Immediately.
If you sing, you may use this time for voice lessons, strengthening, explore other kinds of music, etc. -

Thanks for all the tips - Much needed. I actually was a professional musician until October of 2009, and then I had to stop. I've played maybe a total of an hour over the last year, so I have pretty much given it up. But I want it back... I will definitely look at Flip Breskin. That sounds great, I really appreciate all of the insight.

A friend suggested I take magnesium to help with the ringing in the ears.
Since I had some left over from when I was on the Cowden Protocol I took that.
I did not realize how much it had helped until I ran out.
Tried a different source and the ringing is back.
I use to have pain in the ears too but it has gone away with treatment.
HOping you are able to play the guitar again soon.

I have the same problem. The ringing and buzzing. The buzzing usually happens when I tilt my head. Both started with Lyme. They have never gone away.

I am no help, but just want to contribute that for a few months, I had a noise in my left ear that sounded like electronic Morse code. It resembled a noise I actually hear (with both ears) sometimes from my car radio.
It came and went, and took me a month or two to realize it was actually in my ear, and not in the environment around me. (I kept checking my cell phone, laptop, TV at home, desktop computer at work, fluorescent lights at work, car radio... One day when I was taking a nap on my parents' couch and I heard it in my left ear next to the pillow, I realized I was carrying it around with me.)
I was very scared for my ears. The good news is that when I finally saw some improvement in my Lyme symptoms, the ear noise went away completely. I am not well--just somewhat improved, but my ear is fine again.

has anyone experienced any relief from tinnitus by getting their ears flushed?

During a recent NeuroTologist follow up appt. he saw a speck in my ear canal. Well, what came out was something out of a horror movie, really strange and it didn't feel too great while he was removing it either.
You could have fungus growing or just a wax buildup as I did.
Removing the was did nothing to relieve my Tinnitus, it could make all the difference for you. Tinnitus isn't coming from your ear but from your brain/nerves.
Some people find using Vincepotine and Bioflavinoids will help with circulation in the ear and lower the noise.
It has not helped mine yet but I have had Tinnitus 35+ years. I doubt anything will really eliminate it. This was also the first time I ever had any wax buildup.
Someone, ENT or NeuroTologist, notice the T) would need to really look in there to see what's going on in your ear. They have the tools to see deep inside and the techniques on how to get "it" out.
Some antibiotics are ototoxic and can lead to Tinnitus. Zith is one that can cause ear ringing in some people but there are other antibiotics as well as many other drugs that affect the ear.

- Amberini makes an excellent point about seeing a ENT or Neurotologist (neuro-otologist). Nothing should be put into our ears until checked by a professional.
And about certain drugs causing tinnitus. In the Tinnitus thread above, see the link for Bauman's book: "Ototoxic Drugs" -

My lyme treatment actually consists of mainly zithromax, which may explain the Tinnitus. But is it permantent? That's my main concern. I'm in the process of seeing my ear Doctor (making apt)

My husband recently had pneumonia and went to the ER for treatment. IV antibiotics and then zith for a week.
By the second day, he had Tinnitus and it lasted until a few days after he finished the drug.
From what I have heard, it depends on the 1. person 2. length of time
Discuss with your ENT about it's long term use and Tinnitus. Maybe he has some research to back up whether or not you might incur long term damage.

Interestingly enough, I got six hours of relief from tinnitus after treating with a PEMF machine.
It's a pulsed electro-magnetic frequency machine - looks like a little box with a white coil that we hold while the machine clicks away with electro-magnetic pulses.
One doctor told me it may have relaxed the nerves to the ears.
Medical professionals, like chiropractors, may have them. You could check around.
