This thread is for those of us who try to focus on what we can do, not on what we can't. We don't use the "E" word because that tends to bring about a false guilt on what we cannot do.

We are at all different levels. Some are able to and succeed at cardiac rehab some of us consider it an accomplishment to wash the dirty dishes! We count activities of daily living because it is using our muscles, is more than being a couch potato and therefore an accomplishment.

Use it or lose it!

We encourage, celebrate and support here.

What can you do today?
Karen

Sorry for going AWOL last week. Since putting my mother on the plane last Tuesday, I have been trying to recover from the visit. It took more out of me than I thought it would. I confess that today could be a couch potato day, but there is too much to do.

Tonight, I am attending my second Tai Chi lesson. I was surprised that I had sore leg muscles after the first lesson. They must be muscles I don't use gardening.

I want to congratulate Guido on his jump! Here is the blog link that shows a picture of the "Motley Crew" team: http://rainboeliza.blogspot.com/2010/09/my-dad-national-champion.html It is written by a team member's daughter/

Aklnwlf, how did the end tables turn out? I just stenciled my mail box. It had been years since doing any and I really enjoyed it. Hope you are pleased with the results!

Has anyone heard from LPKayak lately? I hope that she is OK.

KAM, I hope that it cools down there for you soon!

Lymetoo, keep up the good work!

Welcome to the new people last week. My lyme brain hasn't had enough coffee to remember who you are. But welcome!

Have a good day everyone!

ah. Good to see that you are able to start the new thread Karen and the mailbox sounds like fun so does the tai chi.

And that is so cool to see Guido's pic and read the write up.

So much better news than Lindsay Lohan going to rehab...just what are thos news reporters thinking?!?

Hoping Kayak checks in soon. Hoping she has not been posting because she has been too busy.

It is cooler here this week. Nice.

Put camping mats back under the bed. Check
Put dirty dishes in DW. Check
Take Rosie out to toilet via upright power chair Check

Resting now than hoping to do more. So far it has one of those rare mornings when I am able to do a few things that have gone undone for too long.

Sit down shower Check
Put clean clothes on Check
Sweep and Mop Kitchen Floor check
Get hair out of bathroom sink drain Kind of check (Could not remove that thinga ma jig in drain but worked around it as best i could)

Resting now then hoping to be able to do more.

Forgot opened windows and blinds and fed stray cat. When I first started feeding this cat about a month ago, I was not sure my health could handle it and struggled. But, lately I have been doing Ok and enjoy seeing him or her outside my bedroom window.

Able to do a ...hmm..can't think of the word...a once over on the trash can and counters on one side of the kitchen.

Went back into kitchen in power chair before floors dried so was also able to mop the floor lightly again to clean up tire marks.

Took Rosie out to field across the street in my power chair and let her run a bit off leash...she runs from rock to rock at a rock pile looking for rock squirrels.

All went well. First time I have tried this. No Rock squirrels this am so it was a short trip.

I was scheduled for water therapy this am but used up my brain and body power so will not be making it.

Resting now and then hoping to either put laundry away or wipe down other side of kitchen counters.

Also able to clean out toaster tray.

I think I just might be done in but I am hoping not. resting now

Folded and put away the clothes in the laundry basket.

Folded the towels on my bed but ran out of sand before I could put them away. REsting now.

Able to wash skillets and cook bacon and eggs.

Not sure why I am able to do so much more this am than usual, but I like it! Resting

Tried to vacuum and clean out car but it was too much. Hit the wall. REsting

Able to give teh dash board in the car and once over in the evening. Not a good job but better than it was.

Drove 5 miles out of town this am. Raining out. Buckets when I first got on the road to take Rosie out to toilet.

I know driving does not usually come under the exercise catogory (sp_ but it feels like exercise when I hold myself upright for that long.

Not sure how long I was out. It was a 30 mph road.

I do know I am exhausted now.

Wow, KAM!! I got tired just reading your list from yesterday. Long may it continue!

I went to the Tai Chi lesson last night. Because I missed last week, I felt out of step. But was able to make it the hour. Today, I can't remember the sequence.

Vacuumed the house. Will try to capture the kitchen and have massive piles of laundry to do. So that will be up and down the stairs. Looking forward to my recliner later today.

Have a good day, every one!

Yesterday I rode my bike 2.2 miles and went to the gym. Today I played tennis. All with my PICC line in. I hope that is a good sign that things are going well. Needless to say, I am not 100%...but doing well.

Have a nice day

Well took a break from doing much over the weekend. And I find it is hard to get back into the swing.

Walked yesterday but ran errands today and did some shopping. Hope hubby doesn't mind what I spent lol.

We did walk last night in addition to what I walked during the day. Totally forgot about that. We popped into the Magic Kingdom.

But I think our walk got canceled out because we picked up some yummy rice crispie treat things drizzeled with chocolate and also some chocolate carmel corn. Oh dear.

I better stay home tomorrow and walk all day. hahaha

Enjoyed reading your post Disney. Pavlovs Dog here.

Drove the 3 miles out of town to the Indian Ruins tonight. On my feet 10 min est.

Hurting now and body is very heavy but good to be out there.

I was out with Rosie in the power chair this afternoon to toilet here. We just got back when it started to rain again.

It happened again tonight. We just pulled up when it started to rain again.

I love it when that happens. Much better than being out in the rain although I do like walking in the rain when my body is strong enough to do so.

Wow, kam... you are doing a whole lot these days!! NOW... don't OVERdo!! [Smile]

I did some shopping today .. so quite a bit of walking.

And Monday I did 10 min on MY MACHINE and 40 laps. My lower back hurt after I got home so I took a pain pill. I think I tried to walk too fast and didn't rest after the first 20 laps.

I went straight to the machine when I should have taken a break. I used to do the arm cranks then, but have still been avoiding them due to my cranky neck.

Lower back hurt again today... both days were the beginnings of sciatica... but thankfully didn't go full-blown.

WE need some rain, kam... send it our way please!!

I didn't do much today. Woke up slammed. Like everything had rushed back. Had to lay down. And forget about trying to get on treadmill.

Did some laundry. Does that count? Hope everyone is doing ok today.

Took care of two boys under 3 all day --- then my other boy (6) this afternoon. Will bath them, feed them, kiss and love them. Then will clean up the house, laundry and snuggle my husband. I think that all counts, right? [Smile]

Wow...I'm so glad to see that you are keeping this topic going. I haven't been to Lymenet in months but think of so many of you often.

I'm in P.T. right now twice a week so my focus has been on that although I do walk the dog around our cul de sac as my usual walking.

I had even gone out and bought that machine that would measure my steps and really plan to get back with all of you.

I guess the GOOD news is that I keep so busy now, that I don't focus on Lymenet and feeling better. Still fighting the babs, but never forget you people so will continue to check in.

Keep walking. Hugs to all!!!!!

Cathy

Able to do the 10 min loop in the forest tonight. NOt a "normal humanoid walk" but good to be there.

Started to sit down at my regular half way rock and saw the bees coming out of the hole under the rock and changed my mind.

It was a reminder of days to come with the 3 small creek crossings that had water in them tonight and the wind in the trees and having the place to myself.

TuTu...yep pacing ourselves is tricky. I didn't do the rest tonight and felt sick and was walking like a drunk on the way out.

Didn't realize it was due to not having that short rest until I noticed that it affects you too..effects affects I think effects

Cathy

Good to hear from you. Glad you are getting more back to normal.

Wow Nellers...you sound really good.

Disney...

Slam days come with the territory. A yes laundry counts...lots of moving of the body for that one

Kam the bees would have had me running for the hills. lol.

I actually hung some clothes on the line as we are having wonderful weather. Wanted to try and save some electric.

Gonna try and swim tommorrow at the Y. Will see how I feel. Night all and hope everyone has pleasant sleep.

disney....I really enjoy the smell of sheets that have been hung on the line.

RE: the bees...later that night I watched a program on TV called I shouldn't be alive.

it was about a husband and wife who were covered with the killer bees.

I have a choice on that trail to do the loop or walk one side of the loop and then turn around and go back.

I think I will avoid that part of the loop with the bees if my brain can remember to do that.

Unfortunately the bees are at the corner of the loop so it could be tricky either way.

Able to take shower and put clean clothes on. Able to put in one load of laundry in washer and put it in the dryer.

Will be getting one load out of dryer soon and then in 30 min the other load. That most likely will be it for me today.

Hoping to be able to be out on the trail again this evening.

Housekpr from the county came today. She was able to take the trash out, put a load of clothes in the washer, vacuum, make soup and a pitcher of tea and wash the pots and pans.

She also emptied the dishwasher and put the dirty dishes in...but she has not got the idea that she needs to wipe the dishes off before she puts them in the dishwasher yet.

So, I need to take them back out and wipe them off at some point. This dishwasher just bakes the food on if you don't wipe things down first.

Kam- The killer bee things freaks me out. I remember them talking about them coming to America when I was a kid. I would definatley stay away from that loop.

Hope you get out to the trail today. I was gonna swim but just am getting up. Will shoot for Friday.

Just gonna walk on treadmill today and probably do laundry. It is amazing how much laundry goes on in this house with just 2 adults and 4dogs lol.

Disney..it is nice to have clean clothes and linens though!

Drove 7 miles out of town on the 30 mph road. Est I was on my feet 5 or 10 min. Not much walking as I walked down the incline to the creek and watched Rosie run around.

I would have needed to cross the creek if I wanted to do more and was not up to it this evening.

one of those outings where health and doing something "normal" are borderline.

I did see a group of people with candles and signs walking down the main street of town on the way home.

Couldn't understand what they were saying or wha the signs said. They had a police escort for traffic control.

I also got to see 3 or 4 Elk on the way home. I love it when they cross the road right when I am coming.

It always amazes me that I look on the side of the road where they went into the brush and can't see them.

It was good to hear the sound of the water in the creek. Can't recall when I was near a creek last.

Cathy! Congratulations on doing so well!! I remember when just walking the cul de sac was a huge challenge for you. Good to hear from you!

I remember seeing on TV that killer bees will warn you off when getting too close to their hive. They supposedly will bounce off of your forehead as a way to warn. And to see Elk! Where I live deer and moose are prevalent. Of course, they wait until you are right up next to them and then run out into the road. Not good. Be careful, KAM!

Lymetoo, I hope that back pain settles down.

Nellers, two boys under three counts triple! I was exhausted just reading about it. Remember to take some time for yourself. (I say that because I did not when my son was little...)

Disney, I used to hang laundry out to dry. Then read that was a good way to collect pollen on them. So I stopped doing it. We have asthmatics in the house. I have often wondered if I would use a treadmill regularly or if it would collect dust.

I have been doing the usual.

Have a good day, everyone!

kgg When I take the stuff off the line I always put it in the dryer on fluff. Not sure if that even helps fluff the pollen off or not.

Most times I just hang our bedding and the dogs bedding on line. Every once in a while I put out our clothes.

I think you should check into getting a treadmill if you can. Now I am not gonna lie to you even using it collects dust. lol.

Kam-Glad you got out and I love the sound of water too. Very relaxing.

Lymetoo I hope your back is feeling better. I always have back pain. Started taking omega 3 pill and it has slacked off. Not sure if that is helping or strange coincidence. lol.

Gonna go in a bit to swim and pick up some supplements that are suppose to help with acne. Ugh 40yrs old and what a mess lol.

Have a wonderful day guys!

Hi there gang!!!

Sorry I've been kinda busy.

Took my Mom to a doc appointment out of town on Monday.

Had a dermatology appointment myself on Wednesday just to get some skin tags and warts? removed.

Let's see, I walked about 1/4 mile on Tuesday, 1/2 mile on Thursday and 1 mile today.

Also been working on those end table bookcases.

I didn't use a stencil brush which apparently makes a difference so my project came out kinda blurry around the edges.

I sprayed paint them off white first then applied stencil glue to the stecil and used black as the base and sponged in some gray.

The pattern was a hibiscus flower.

All in all they look a lot better than before.

Going to 'On the tracks' wine tasting tonight.

Quaint little town near railroad tracks, music, appetizers and tents with small plate food for sale and the shops that participate staying open until 11.

I'll let you all know how it is.

See you all later!

[hi]

Wow, it's so nice to see so much positivity and good news! I never look at this board...

What I can do today:
Even though I couldn't find anyone to come with me, I went to hear a band tonight, and it was great! I'm glad to remember that music is something I can appreciate, even if I'm too tired to do other things.

Rain...it is so good to find something we can do. I can't do music yet so looking forward to when I am able.

it was good to read you were able to enjoy your music time.

Welcome.

Able to drive on the 55 mph road 3 miles out of town to the Verde River. Est 10 or 15 min on feet.

I did recline on a small boulder about 5 min in.

River was muddy. Rosie did her happy dance in the sandy area.

Got to find some boots I can just slip on without having to put socks and lace them and that can get wet.

Wore by slippers this am. That is just not working any more. Could have used gloves too.

but, it is warming up quickly.

TuTu...I couldn't keep up with you at PT! [Smile]

Fun reading all you are doing ALW

OK Rested enough. Going to see about getting up and getting some yogurt and GF toast.

I'd like to be able to fold laundry and put it away today and clean up a bit in the kitchen.

We shall see. Oops. Plants need watering too..can't recall when I watered them last.

Update on the guys I have been following on FB...Mattie made it to Long Beach.

He traveled coast to coast in his power chair to raise funds for a home so others can live independently as possible and not be put in an institution like he was at one point in his life.

I haven't heard from the lady who was going for a swim in the ocean and can't recall her name.

Last I heard they were waiting for smooth swimming waters and the hurricans to go by.

I think she was swimming to Cuba from the US?

The guy who is walking across the US is getting really close to reaching his goal of ending up at teh national momument.

He is raising funds and awareness for stroke victims.

We have so many lyme survivors we could do a walk coast to coast if we just had each of us do a short part of the walk. [Smile]

kind of a pass the baton type of thing.

Sounds like a good plan on the walk, kam. Remember when we were counting our miles walked so we could "Meet in the middle?" [Razz]

Welcome, backintherain!! [hi]

Thanks for the welcomes!
a few questions:

Karen - What's the "E-word?"
Lymetoo - What kind of laps do you do? swimming?
kam - Are you sound-sensitive?

Backintherain, the "E" word is exercise. When we are so ill, being told to do aerobic exercise when we can't only brings on guilt. What we focus on here is what we can do, at all levels.

Lymetoo, does cardiac rehab walking on an inside(?) track.

And yes, KAM is sound sensitive. As am I, just not to the degree that KAM is.

On Monday I have two sisters coming to do lots of painting. Which required me to go around filling all of the nail holes in the trim they are painting. That was 7 rooms. I think I was seeing nail holes in my dreams last night. That involved up and down on the step ladder and arm work. Oh and lots of coffee.

Today will be more of the same.

Have a good day, everyone!
Karen

Karen...it will be nice to have that job done but guessing you will be having quality time with the recliner when it is over. [Smile]

So far the only movement this am was getting my robe on and getting in the power chair to take Rosie out to pee.

I did feed the cat too which requires walking a few steps down the sidewalk and not tripping over the cat as he or she rubs up against my legs as cats do.

I hang on to the fence. The fence is about waist high and is around the air/heating units in front of my apartment.

The other day, I go to thinking about things I had in mind before I got sick...a house with a picked fence, a new convertible, a helpmate, swim with the dolphins.

Does this fence around the air conditioning mean my picket fence? And does my power chair mean my convertible? And the helpmate ....Rosie? And the swimming with dolphins the picture of dolphins at the therapy pool?

I have got to start being more specific!

Ah yes, I also opened the blinds. 4 windows. Enjoy seeing the cat outside my bedroom window with his paw on the sreen again.

I was able to water the potted plants this evening and walk to the car and back to take Rosie out to stretch her legs.

But, most of the day was down time and struggling to use the brain and body.

Able to take a sit down shower.

Saturday-Me and Rocky 1 mile.

Had a blast at the wine tasting trail. Ate some appetizers and sampled wine. Bought 1 scallop and shrimp in white wine sauce for $5 and grooved to some great music.

Bought a car magnet that said 'I love my Labrador' and 3 post cards.

Then went and got some movies and something to eat 'again' at Burger King.

Today built some front steps to my screened front porch.

Doing 1 load of laundry and then am hitting the hay.

Loved reading everyone's posts and seeing how everyone's doing.

BTW, finished my bookshelf end tables today spraying two coats of polyureathane on them.

They need to cure for 24 then I can put them in the house. Can't wait.

See you all next week!
