Welcome, November! Wow, where did October go? We had our first snow fall yesterday. Very pretty.

This thread is about moving our bodies. During a support group meeting for people with Diabetes, a young man who was a physical therapist said that many things we do during the day counts for exercise. I loved hearing that!

In light of that, we count daily activities as exercise. Especially, if it is something we could not do before and are able to now. In addition to that, we have some that are able to do more. We celebrate that too.

In this thread we keep track of our accomplishments while we encourage each other to not give in to this disease, but to keep moving!

Use it or lose it!

So what can you do today?

Karen [hi]

In the last few days, I have tried to make it a habit to practice the Tai Chi that I learned this Fall.

Backintherain, in last week's thread, said she rode her bike to work a couple of times. And carried a 30 lb. box of books a 1/3 of a mile! (Made my arms and back hurt just reading it) And also took a 2 1/2 hour exam. (Made my brain tired, imagining taking an exam never mind that long!) Kudos, on all of those things!

Have a good day, every one!
Karen

Not able to read all of Better Health Guy's notes from the ILADS conference.

But, did catch the part from Dr. B that said exercise is key to recovery.

I know first hand how frustrating it is to get out there and do some movement of the body and not be abl to...but we all keep trying and doing what we can.

Finally able to empty the DW this am. Filled it on Wed but health was not up to emptying it until today.

Karen...glad you are able to do the Tai Chi...

LOL....I had the same reaction to Back in the Rain's post but thought it was great she was able to do all of that...especially the bike part.

I am looking forward to our 1st snow fall here!

Hello all,

Dropped the kids off at school. I did a full body (light weights)workout at the gym today. I also did 4 loads of laundry.

Now I will go and pick up the kiddies and maybe go to the library. The little one has a book to return. Movin and groovin. Feeling more like ME lately !

Hope you all have a blessed rest of the day !

Flutterby...well you are just fluttering by...light as a butterfly! Cool.

Able to put the other wooden chair outdoors and park my power chair where it was to charge.

Able to cruise on over to the feedstore and the auto store. Very nice out. Good to be out...thankful for the people who opened the doors for me.

This condition is so strange. I have been wanting to get the steering wheel cover and move the chair outdoors for a long time....but couldn't due to health

Today, it was a piece of cake.

Able to walk in the ma and pa office supply store and get printer ink. That did me in.

Drove out to hiking area with Rose but too weak to get out of car so let her run.

As we were leaving there were several cop cars and cars and people standing around.

I asked what was happening. The police department was hiking the trails for physical training! Pretty cool.

I saw one female. All the rest were male.

I also made chili from scratch via the power chair...but brain feels inflamed now..I was really pushing it trying to get all the stuff in the skillet.

Able to clean up in the kitchen a bit this am while on my feet. It would have been better if I used the power chair but brain takes a while to kick in so learned not to use the power chair until brain is working better.

All ready one dig in the kitchen wall from power chair.

Resting now, then going to try some laundry.

Able to put in one load of laundry and water plants.

Hoping to do breakfast, fold laundry from last week and get laundry out of dryer next.

Then, most likely down time after I get Rosie out to stretch her legs.

Not much today, after yesterday. Dropped kids off at school, took a shower, fiddled on the computer. Now picking kids up to bring them to the dentist. Feeling awfully tired today.

Take care of you flutterby.

I was able to cook bacon and eggs, make some coffee and toast via the indoor power chair

And get the laundry out of the dryer

Take Rosie to the dog park...but pushing it to do that...

I am down for the count now but thankful I was able to do more than usual.

Yes, take care of you, Flutterby. If I had done a full body weight work out, I would not be able to get off of the couch! Glad you had the down time while the kiddos were in school.

KAM, I am having breakfast at your place from now on! And chili! I will bring Aklnwlf with me.

I spent yesterday in the kitchen trying to capture it again. Also did some weeding and cutting back of asparagus and perennials trying to get them ready for winter. Lucky the snow melted so I could get to them!

Have a good day, every one!

ah snow! I don't miss driving in it, or trying to walk on icy sidewalks, but I do miss the peace and the beauty. and hot chocolate!

I am really in a good state with my recovery, so I'm lucky enough to be able to bike ride and do quite a lot! I know everyone is at a different place on this journey. But I'm hopeful that we're all moving forward and able to do more and more without crashing!

I tend to be an All-or-Nothing type of person, so it's important for me to do *something*, even if it's not as strenuous as I'd like it to be.

Going to the dentist 2 days after Halloween! good idea! It's so hard to be good with all this candy around.

I tried to garden yesterday, but it got dark too soon.

I'm impressed with those of you who care for kids and dogs while sick. I'm sure they're great motivators and lots of joy!

OK Brain is drained and I would not think of this as exercise....but it was a work out.

Took 2 excedrin, waited an hour and then head down the street to the voting place via my reclining power chair with leg lifts.

I made it! Body is in pain now and I most likely will be down the rest of the night.

I think it was an hour and a half outing..

Hoping to make GF biscuits to go with the chili next. Maybe tomorrow I will have what it takes to do that.

Didn't go to exercise on Monday. My heart was giving me some trouble. Decided to lay low.

Hope to go tomorrow.

Hope everyone is hanging in there!!

Good job on being able to vote, kam! That's quite an acccomplishment!

I have chili on my menu tomorrow! Bought the meat yesterday. It's supposed to get really cold Friday.

Looks like we will be having 80 degree temps here today.

So confusing. Back to summer clothes just when I was getting use to wearing warmer clothes.

Good you laid low TuTu. We'll be over to your house on Friday for chili. [Smile]

Karen...like the idea of the aspargus. REminded me of going out to my garden and eating fresh aspargas in the 90's. Yum.

Housekeeper from the county coming today so that most likely will do me in. She isn't one that comes and works independently but needs to ask me questions for things that are right in front of her or things I have just told her or have written down.

Hopefully, today will be different. I like her. She is a positive kind of gal. But, it hurts the brain to have that verbal stuff going on.

Ok. Able to put some more dirty dishes in and start up the dishwasher.

As Karen's says...I almost have captured the kitchen. [Smile]

Able to fold and put away last weeks laundry.

Took out trash.

Exhausted now. REsting.

Then, hoping to take as shower and eat breakfast.

Housekeeper coming in about an hour. So hoping floors will be vacuumed, bedding changed, bathroom cleaned and floors mopped.

Wondering if she is going to ask me where the sheets are. She folded and put them away last week.

Ok Did the shower thing, then had to rest before I could get dressed.

Then, put two loads of laundry in.

Able to walk into dog park...short visit.

Resting now then hoping to eat.

Housekeeper did all of the above this am. Life seems more do able now.

Good job, kam!! Let us know how you like your new boots when you get them!!

I'm making my chili now. [Smile] You can come over in about 45 min.

Went to exercise today and they put me back on a monitor just in case. I was fine and did my usual exercises. It was good to be there again.

Take care everyone!!

TuTu...glad you were able to get back in the swing of things and were fine.

Did the 10 min loop this evening. Very nice out. Cool, damp...but then again I was walking in a sleeveless dress cause my jeans did not fit.

The boots came. They fit. I like them. But, thinking of exchanging them for the taller model.

Lymetoo, so glad that you have the nurses and monitors there to make it more safe for you. Aklnwlf and I will be right over for some chili!

KAM, glad the housekeeper was able to get all of that done. I used to be a member of the flylady.net. It has been a while since I have been there. But the very first thing she recommends is cleaning the sink. When I first read it, it did not make sense to me. But that is the first thing I do when I capture the kitchen and it looks so organized when I am done, it is wonderful! (It's the small things in life...)

Yesterday, I did my Tai Chi. I also made a list and actually accomplished most of it. That included cleaning to bedrooms, laundry, kitchen, dinner, etc. I slept hard last night. Today will be more of the same.

Bakintherain, you got it! That is the whole idea. To keep going forward and learn how to pace to avoid crashing. The pacing is probably the hardest for me. Glad you are in a good place in your healing. May we all reach that point!

Flutterby, hang in there! How are you?

I know I have asked this before but has anyone heard from LPKayak?

Have a good day, everyone!
Karen

Able to do the 10 min loop this morning in the forest. That place is catching on. There are cars parked at the trailhead all the time now.

Resting now then the lady from the county housekeeping/caregivers service will be here any minute.

Not looking forward to this. It is about an hour's worth of paper work for the year. They also have someone coming every 3 months to do a report card on the person(s) they are sending out.

When my brain was in such a fog it seemed like they had just come. I really disliked it because I have such difficulty with the verbal stuff and writing.

But, worth it. Just know that it will do me in most likely and I will have to veg after this.

Hope everyone's ok.

All this talk of chili has inspired me to go and get some fixins.

I like to make a big pot when my nephew comes over and we pig out and watch movies.

One of my favorite things in the world to do.

Today me and Rocky walked over a mile.

Tuesday and Wednesday I just walked him enough until he did his business.

Kinda run down this week and not doing a whole lot.

See you all later!

ohhhhhhh! i'm so glad you guys are still here.

i have been having fun but either over did it or ran out of luck

i rode, kayakes and walked a lot and lost a total of 51 pounds since last nov

oh yeah---i added situps too---100 !

but then something happened a few months ago--i yousearch me you will see my posts in medical

i think its the fake knee loosening up-but i also took a bad fall off the horse---got up and walked away but was very sore in a different place everyday for 10 days and then it settled in my hip-sacrum-sitting bine area

xrays all were negative so i slowly started to do stuff again and then over did it by going up to nh to get furniture (and smaller clothes!!!that part was fun)

while there the doc that replaced my knees did a total bone scan and told me i was fine.

i kept getting worse and can't walk at times. when i got the bone scan report the guy who read it said there was a possible fracture of L1, and in sacrum and the knees might be loosenting up and it was real important to follow up.

i didn't cuz my doc said i was fine. i have been heavy lifting...3 air conditioners, monitors, furniture

today i couldn't even walk with crutches so i called a new ortho guy---i guess i need both a knee and back guy now...

i had to take a bunch of pain meds and i am really dopey right now but able to walk slowly around house

i also have a PT order...the original doc said since nothing showed up on the scan i must have fibromyalgia...so he ordered PT for that....here comes nmy S-C-R-E-A-M-M-M-M-M!!!!!

so-i guess i am going to be very slow til i see the docs

i rode yesterday for the second time since the fall...and i am sorta scaared...but it was not painful and the horse was good so it may be away to get someexercise if i can't walk

i haven't fallen off a horse in 30 yrs...oh well

it was really good to read about what you all are doing...i may be back more now...since i am not exercising 5 hrs a day (or you could just call it playing: riding, kayaking and walking on the beach)

so its good you're here---but kinda sad that i am back in theposition where i have time to come here

AKW...good to hear from you. Yep. Some times just getting the dog out to do his or her business is all we have in us.

Kayak...it was so much fun to read all that you have been able to do.

Sure hope you are back at it again by the spring time.

Any pics? Are you on FB?

Able to do the 10 min loop this evening. Noticed that I will not be able to drive down the dirt road once we start getting the rains...several places will most likely be washed out.

And someone...I assume Parks and Rec or the owners of the home that is being built in the area...dragged dead limbs, brush, etc across the road and a log further down.

It is kind of confusing because their property is public land part of the way and then a few feet of private land.

It will be interesting to see what happens with it. In CA if an area has been used for public purposes for a certain amount of time the land stays as public.

Not sure what AZ's laws are. It also would take people coming together to pay the fees to take it to court.

I am fine with it being closed off as this means the ATV's can't get through.

But, in the past, they cut the barb wire fencing at the trail head to get through.

I was finally strong enough to move the limb they had put across the old trail pathway.

People were still using it. Just stepping over. The new pathway they made is too steep for me and the pebbles cause you to slip.

It felt good to be out tonight. I enjoy the view coming and going and the way the forest feels right now.

Cool and damp. The sun is at a different point now.

Able to take a shower this am, wash those pots and pans from a few days ago, and kind of cook bacon and eggs.

That sick, foggy, difficulty with processing and moving even in the power chair is coming back.

Resting now then hoping to head on over to the post office via the power chair to exchange the boots.

Thankful they will help me out by taping the package and putting the return label on. I was able to fill out the form...not all at one time...a little here and there.

Lymetoo, I used to make chili that was mid-western style with spaghetti in it. My relatives from Louisville cook it that way. So I just dropped the pasta. My dad turns his nose up at it, but the rest of us like it that way just fine. Now it is gluten-free.

Yesterday, I hung pictures and cleaned getting ready for company later on today. Plus lots of laundry. I did not get to my Tai Chi but that is the first thing I am going to do today.

LPKayak, thanks for checking in with us! We were worried about you! Sad to think the first doc missed that. Seems like a second opinion is almost mandatory these days. Hope you recover quickly.

Have a nice Saturday everyone!
Karen

Good to read all that you are doing. I was able to walk into the dog park and out and take a few pics of the regulars.

Then, off to Walmart...able to walk in and get in electric cart and get goat's milk.

That was stressful....but glad I finally got the job done.

Hoping that if I lay here for a while the brain will settle and the body.

Able to give Rosie a shower. Not sure why she comes out of the shower with an abundance of energy and I am so fatigued I can't think straight.

I forgot to dry her off but she ran up an down the hallway. I am still too fatigued to get up and dry her off.

Able to go back to that dirt road a mile and a half out of town and make it to the Verde River this time.

Est 7 or 8 miles round trip.

body hurting now but hoping once I lie here for a while it will improve...mostly lower back.

Took 2 excedrin to help be drive back out on the dirt road. So thankful that helps.

Able to finally get the steering wheel cover on and the windshield wiper fluid put in the very dry container.

Once I got it in, I wondered if I got the right fluid. Nope. it will freeze.

Rosie got her exercise on the dirt road but the only time I got out was to put the windshield wiper fluid in.

Kind of funny...there I was on the side of a mountain with a steep drop off putting in the fluid.

I had stopped the car because I couldn't see. The morning sun was blinding.

I also had to drive a mile pass the verde river as there were campers where I needed to turn around.

But, the road a mile pass the river had the best view.

well...i haven't had to take anything stronger than ibuprofen for 3 days so i am going to try to ride tomorrow.

the docs haven't gotten back to me about making an appt. you have to jump thru so many hoops just to get an appt...even tho i have a bone scan that says i might have fractures...and i have an order for PT but when i told them about the scan they said not to come in til a third doc saw the scan and orderd something

i have decided to try to get to orthos in philly...so i will be calling new docs for appts...maybe i won't say too much and it will be easer to get appt...

i'm still unpacking which is exercise but not good exercise for me...more like physical abuse. i wish i could just walk and kayak...its amazing...so different in jersey than nh...its warm enoguh to kayak in the middle of nov!!!

take care all...

kayak....thinking of you yesterday. Good to see your post.

Take care of you with the unpacking.

Amazing that you can kayak in jersey in November.

I was up and out at 5:30 am to toilet Rosie via the power chair. Stars in the sky. Temp around 40 degrees.

Just put on my coat over the PJs and my slippers. Just went to the end of the apartment complex to toilet her. Hand hurt on the way back due to cold...time to wear my winter mittens again.

kam-i'm always telling others to "take care of you"

it started with tincup saying it to me

it sounds good hearing it from you...good to know someone cares...

itis blustery windy here today and after church and shopping yesterday this place is such a mess i think i'm gonna skip the riding. the stove and furnace man are coming and you can't even get to the stove or the furnace so as soon as my meds kick in i need to clear a path.

i'm still a littl nervous about ridin and windy days can make horses act up so its best for me not to go. if i got in the kayak i'd end up in england i think so i will hope for a walk before the end of the day

take care all!
