I'm one of those textbook Lyme cases that you don't hear about much on this site. I found out I had Lyme a little over a year ago in July. I had contracted it in June, so it was caught very early.
I was educated about it since I am in a high-risk group - I work in forests. I had previously spent every day all summer long for 4 years in the forests. I was vigilant and checked for ticks frequently. I never got Lyme. But last year I wasn't working. I was less vigilant, forgot to check, and caught it from walking the dogs in the park. (Both dogs got it too).
My symptoms were classic - a week of extreme fatigue and all joints aching, and a week later then the bulls-eye rash. I had more than a dozen all over my body. My PCP immediately put me on doxy without even waiting for test results. And even then my LabCorp tests came back positive. So very clear case.
That's when I found this site and did more research. I realized that my doxy dose wasn't high enough and my PCP had not even mentioned the possibility of co-infections. (Luckily I didn't have any). She told me one month should be enough, and gave me no guidance about probiotics, what to eat/not eat, although she did tell me about sun sensitivity due to doxy.
I found a LLMD through these forums. I was on doxy for 3 months and my symptoms disappeared. After 2 months off doxy, I started having fatique and transitory pain in my hand and feet joints. So LLMD put me on a combo antibiotic (I think it was Ceftin and Biaxin but I might be remembering wrong). After a month (or 2?) of that I was symptom free again.
Had it not been for what I learned here, I might not have recognized the "relapse" and treated it so quickly. I also would have had a raging yeast problem.
I suspect I might have had a low-level yeast infection for years before Lyme and the change of diet has taken care of that and given me lots more energy.
Its been a year now symptom free and I am healthier now than I was before Lyme due to all the information I have learned from the Lyme community here about eating healthy, exercise, supplements, etc.
I've been hiking the Appalachian trail and kayaking. I feel a little guilty about writing this here when I know many of you are not at a such a good point, but I do want you to hear about a success story.
Thanks again for being there.

Thanks for posting this, Linda!! So glad that this board helped you get the proper care. It's so essential to take probiotics .. and GOOD ones, at that!
You were very lucky not to have coinfections. That is what complicates matters bigtime.
Keep hiking and enjoying. You're braver than me!!

Success stories are good. That is what keeps us trying to help newbies. We hate hearing about all the cases that were not treated correctly or took years to diagnose, because those people are a lot more difficult to treat.
Congratulations.
