Its a kids movie and they are going camping....the cat says "why would i want to go there theres bugs(?) and lyme disease" !!!!
thought it funny that it would be recognised or mentioned in a kids movie of all things.....

Isn't Michael J. Fox the mouse in Stuart Little? I am sure he has looked into the possibility that his parkinsons is related to TBD.

Lol, that's funny. The mmovie Madagascar mentions it too. When the animals are deciding where to run away to, one of them mentions Connecticut, and another says, "What can Connecticut give us but lyme disease?"

I didn't know he had Lyme before he had Parkinsons! I wonder if he believes the Parkinsons is caused by lyme?

Here is a clip with Michael J. Fox about how people react to his Parkinsons.
I could not find anything where he mentions Lyme. Too bad. It would be a real boost to have a big name out there as a voice for Lyme.

He only tried treating for a few weeks? ahhhh my goodness. SOMEONE needs to get him to an LLMD RIGHT NOW. if hes positive for lyme he really needs to treat it. that could be the whole reason behind the parkinsons

- While it's great that some sort of education about lyme sneaks in here and there, I'm very sad to see it handled in such a way as to invoke irrational (or skewed) fear of nature -- or put one in the position of appearing overly cautious.
I know the movie writers like the comic relief of the characters but, by adopting the panic, it sets them up to be ridiculed or for them to be fearful and just run away.
It would have been possible to phrase it in a way that tells kids it's important to enjoy nature but also to respect it - and learn how to prevent bites and treat any consequence - which is a rational thought process.
Running the other direction is not the best solution. Kids need to know how to safely enjoy playing and exploring in nature. We can't keep them in front of the TV forever. That's not worked out very well the past few years for any of our nation's kids.
One thing about the mention of it in those movies, though, it would open up the discussion of educational materials and instruction.
We need to get some kids interested in studying insects - even ticks. We need to nurture them so they will become brilliant entomologists. That starts when they are very young. -

on a side not aside from watching stuart little my daughter did do her school project about lyme disease, other coinfections, put a packet together with information leaflets from varying organization including ILADS, identification cards for ticks, stickers etc and made a huge Deer tick mounted on a stand......
so a little bit of both goes a long way.....

actually it was the other way around she did her project last year and we just happened to be watching stuart little yesterday when it was mentioned....
but i agree that if the kids would have an interest or information they could be the upcoming educators/scientists/doctors.......

My LLMD told me that he has been in personal touch with Michael J. Fox and tried to convince him to be treated for Lyme, but Fox was very resistant to the idea. In my doctor's words, "The Parkinson's people will never let go of him now" because he raises so much money.
It would be sad for Parkinson's patients to lose their strongest advocate, but what a loss for the Lyme community! And it's sad to think of other Parkinson's patients who might realize they have Lyme if Fox would set the example for them.
