A friend just lent me a biomat - it has amethyst crystals in it and several heat settings - the highest is FIR.

I've been lying on it and so far, sweating and getting headaches - does this indicate a problem with detoxing? Anyone have experience with it?

what setting are using? are you sleeping on it? i have a biomat and i would use it during the colder months at the lowest setting for sleep (not using it now because i am pregnant). i never used it for detox purposes though. i did try it on setting 2 sometimes and actually did sweat a little so i went back to setting 1.

Ha, Don - I know that!

Maureen, I'm putting it on the highest setting, which is the FIR temp - says 149-158 degrees F. I want to use it for detox.

I tried sleeping on it one night on a low setting and woke up headached.

Instructions say it's putting out negative ions even when not in use.

Maybe it's too much of a good thing - like when something is detoxing us, we get a headache? I'm drinking water now.

And I just covered it up and aired out the room and feel better -

I have had a biomat for about a year now. I really like using it. I sleep on it every night.

About 20 min before I go to bed I turn the setting to the highest. Then when I get in bed I read or try and meditate for about 10 min. I then turn it down to the lowest setting and go to sleep. 0

I don't notice a herx but I do notice it helps with my pain.

One thing to add. You are not supposed to sleep on the mat higher than the two lowest settings. So if you use the highest settings especially, make sure you set some type of alarm for 30 min or so, so you don't fall asleep on that setting.

I love my biomat, and use it all the time.

I use it with two intentions in mind, and based on which I'm needing, I use different heat settings:

1) When I'm herxing and really need detox, I will put it at a higher setting (honestly, I can't take the highest settings). I have found that either the highest gold setting, or lowest red setting is good for me here.

My intention here is to sweat. I lay on it and cover myself up. Once I break a sweat, I'll try to stay on it another 5 or 10 minutes. Usually this ends up being about 20-40 minutes, depending on how quickly I sweat. Occasionally I fall asleep and wake up covered in sweat, and if this happens I immediately get up.

But it's too hard on my body to sweat much longer than that, and I can't do this very often -- only when I really need strong detox help. As you say, otherwise I'll get headaches...just from too much leaving my body...with limited energy to begin with.

2) When I'm feeling particularly weak, I can't handle sweating. When I'm very very weak, I use the biomat to tonify, and bring energy to my body.

For this, I put it on a lower setting. Something that feels comfortably warm, but not hot. I then just rest on it for 1-2 hours. Even at a low setting I find I need a break after that, but it feels really good.

When I first got mine I tried sleeping on it with the very lowest setting and it just wasn't comfortable for me. But I use mine all the time during the day.

What I describe above is for the full body length biomat. I actually also have the small travel size one, and I use this at my place on the couch most of the day while I sit and read or do the computer -- usually at around 140. It just heats my back, so a higher temp feels ok for me.

That may have been more than you really wanted to hear [Wink] But, I really love mine. Experiment with it -- don't go in with set ideas of what you "have" to do with it. Just find what feels comfortable for you.

It took me some time to find what worked for my body.
