Today is the first Monday of 2011. (not original, heard it on the news). Already I need to modify my goal of doing Tai Chi daily. Aiming for 5 days a week may be more doable. The weekends just are not for routine.

In spite of being sick, we need to move our bodies. Running a marathon may not be realistic. Nor doing an aerobic workout for an hour. But activities of daily living do count for moving our bodies.

Moving our bodies and not allowing ourselves to be stuck in couch potato mode needs to be our goal. Use it or lose it!

So what can you do today?

Best,
Karen [hi]

Able to get Rosie out to toilet via the power chair, fill out a form and write a letter re: traffic ticket received and get trash put outside door for pick up.

I know this doesn't sound like much but there was movement involved with getting stamps, envelopes finding forms needed, using brain to address envelopes which is a lot like moving the body for some rason, etc.

Was just about in tears after completing tasks but resting now and doing better. Thankful go the long over do tasks done.

Gathered purse, a large package I need to return, put on coat over PJ's, got Rosie's leash and hooked her up and went out the door.

I was worn out just from doing the above.

Cruise in power chair down to UPS went OK. Needed to switch lanes when cars were coming.

Usually, I can move to the side of the road but due to snow there is no place for me to move off the road.

I like to travel so I can see the on coming cars. ON the way back, turned right in front of a car...never heard her and of course I did not look.

I get so exhausted I just focus on getting home.

Wasn't able to cruise to door of UPS so parked power chair and walked in snow/slush and sat on thier mail box. Then walked back to power chair carefully.

When I walk, I either get too weak to move the body or the brain stops telling the legs to move...have learned if the brain does that if I walk sideways it will work for a few steps.

The thought of getting a harness for Rosie crossed my mind again but not in the budget and not sure how frequently I would use it.

I most like would not have considered it even if I had one as I had not considered I would need to be on my feet and thought I could cruise on up to the door of the UPS.

Resting now again.I'd like to take a shower...we shall see...too weak to do so so far lately.

I started yoga again today. Sooo tired.
Going to start with 3 days a week, with "treatment" days in between (FIR Sauna and Lymph treatment with LymphStarPro).

I did 3 weeks of the "Insanity" work out last YEAR. I crashed so hard, haven't really been "back" since then.

alot is crazy here. i will have to move all my storage stuff to another place...but the good news is i rode yesterday. i felt scared-i think i have ptsd-but i did it and plan on riding 6 days a week now. this week only 3 to get myself stretched out-also have medical tests to do thurs so that day is out. altho scared...it felt so good and i felt great after. no pain at all...i didn't do much but did trot

i'm really having trouble with walking -new apt is bigger than last one or my house...and i need cane inside and often feel like my left hip or leg is going to give way

but i keep going like i have learned to. basically nothing but getting meds in and waiting for them to work before noon

then do something for 5 min and rest for 55. i do this over and over a gain. most ppl would walk in and think i never clean or pick up...but i do constantly and i can see the differenc---it just takes so long

anyway-hope everyone else has something good happen!

Welcome, Fyrecracker! You are smart to start three days a week. Gives your body a chance to recover. I could not do an aerobic work out with out crashing. For some it is an adrenal issue. I hope that the yoga did not wipe you out too much.

Kayak, good to hear that you are back to riding! Yea! [woohoo] Glad to hear you don't resist using your cane. You don't need a fall right now. You do housework like I do sometimes. Do something, lie down. Do something else, lie down... It works, just is a slow process. I try not to worry about what people would think if they saw my house. They came to see me not my house, right?

KAM, you actually got quite a lot done for someone who is recuperating from the blow you had last week. I know that the brain stuff makes me tired too. Rest up.

I did not get my Tai Chi done yesterday. Looks like my goal needs to be modified, yet again. But I did do it today. Plus, I walked up to the mail. If I don't get into that habit again the cold weather is going to box me in.

Karen

Not able to read what others have been doing but hope to later.

Just got back from driving to the PO and walking in to check POB.

Then drove down the street to the area where Rosie can run off leash for a bit.

She went down the side of the hill again and it once again took a few minutes for me to get her to come.

I was on my feet walking in the snow back and forth trying to find her for a bit. Wore me out.

But good to be out for a very short time.

Went to feedstore via reclining power chair with leg lifts. Exhausted now and even while making the trip. Brain struggles with each thing.

Also went in 7-11 type of store and got a couple of aspirin and a couple of alleve.

Need something to take in the afternoon so going to try these.

Able to do the dry brush thing, get dressed, put coat, mittens, warm boots on and take Rosie out to toilet via the reclining power chair with leg lifts.

We went around the block. 22 degrees out.

Drove Rosie out to area we usually go to let her run while I drive. She finally got her 10 min in today.

Body is still really weak....had 3 stray dogs chase the car with lots of loud barking both on their part and Rosie's.

This was while we were still in the residential area.

Then got the rapid fired sneezes. Had to just stop the car in the road until I stopped sneezing. Couldn't do both. HA!

Thankfully, the road has low traffic.

i went to ride and did get on but horse was acting funny and i was not in good shape from moving the storage stuff. she probably picked up on my nerves and spooked at something stupid and then refused to go forward and when i smacked her she threatedned o buck. a friend was there so she got on and made the horse work a little but i was cring in front of the owner (who is really nice to me and told me not to be so hard on myself)

its just i used to be a SUPER-PERSON like so many others here. i was so physical---relied so much on my strength and things i could do physical. i was a pe teacher for 30 yrs---a rider, surfer, skiier, etc etc etc

it is so hard to NOT be able to do these things..even just taking care of myself.

and the multi-tasking skill is gone too.

double whammy.

oh-man. two steps forward-one back. i know part of it is i am having nerve pain from moving the totes. i decided i would finish the storage move and finish putting stuff away in the new house and then try again. the owner of the barn is so good. he said to call when i was ready and if he has to give me pony rides for awhile he will.

more snow coming friday so i am hoping to get stuff moved before then.

Sounds like a good plan Kayak. Give yourself a pat on the back for trying and continuing to try.

It will work out.

Karen..

Glad you were able to make it to the mail box. Thought of you the other day getting your mail in the snow...can't recall what I saw that made me think of you.

We all need to modify...but it is good we keep trying to find what works for us.

Used the TTY today. That is much more do able than the telephone for me so far.

A few glitches.

Welcome fyre cracker....

modifying also...eh [Smile]

Only got through my Tai Chi routine twice before I was too tired to do more. I had been on my feet all morning and needed to get horizontal. I need to get to the Tai Chi first.

KAM, I am glad that you have found TTY helpful.

Have a good day, every one!

Ah. Finally able to take the shower. Resting now then will get dressed and take Rosie out to toilet.

Looks like blue skies out today. Snow still on the ground in some areas.

Also gave Rosie a shower/bath. It always amazes me how she turns a different color after I wash her. [Smile]

it was blue skies out and I did not need my coat...had the fleece on but a bit warm in it.

Today, the 7th, I was able to take a shower, walk to the mail box and a load of laundry. I actually tried to get to the grocery store as another snow storm is on the way but couldn't make it. Now at 7 p.m. I am ready for bed. I also had a nap today.

yesterday i empied the truck, went to storage and loaded the truck, went to have a mammagram and then bloodwork and man they could not find a vein for the longest time. that doesn't usually hurt me but it did yesterday. then i had to unload the truck and go pick up the worker to move the heavy stuff. 3 loads with him and then i shopped a little on the way home cuz snow storm coming. i rested a little and then had to shovel snow (ice really) cuz they never did clean up from the last storm and 2 or 3 more storms are coming. i'm paying extra for them to shovel me out and they are not doing it. i fell moving all the totes yesterday and i didn't want to keep falling all winter.

today i got up and was really surprised i didn't feel horrible. but i had already planned a realy relaxing day. i din't do much...watched tv and a movie and painted a bookcase.

the storm that was supposed to come tuesday is now coming tomorrow afternoon so i have to get up early and get the last load out of storage so i can sign out and stop paying for it. i think i will be back snowed in by noon tomorrow. thats what it sounds like.

as long as i don't lose electric i will not complain about this snow. i've got books and tv and i can always nap! oh---and you guys!

Ok hung up the one blanket and put another load in the washer. Get an hour rest now as the dryers are all going so won't be able to put clothes in dryer for an hour.

OK put the clothes in the dryer. It is the one that I will need to run them through 2 times...other one was in use.

Cleaned up a bit more in kitchen. Almost to the point where i can see the counters.

resting now and then hoping to be able to do more but it will be an usual day if I am able.

Most likely will need to wait until after 4 pm..the hill starts getting to steep to climb around 9 or 10 am

Unusual for me to last this long. it is almost 11:30 am.

Going to eat and take meds and supplements after I rest.

Swept and mopped the kitchen floor. Mop broke so did it how i use to...on my hands and knees.

They inspected the apartment today so glad I was able to capture a bit.

It is 12:30 pm now. Mopped at 8 am I think. Took me this long to recover. I think. Haven't tried to get up yet.

HOping to take a shower. I have had the same clothes on around the clock for 4 or 5 days now.

I'm here!! Did you miss me..?? huh? huh?? [Big Grin] [lol]

We escaped TX just in time Sunday morning. It was supposed to rain and snow with a temp of 24 Sat night.. but we got very lucky and the rain/snow came... but it was only 36 degrees Sunday morning!! WHEW!!! [Eek!]

Drove a few hours in snow and wintry mix in TX and OK, then after that it was dry and cold.

Snowed here last night and today .. and tonight. Not much has accumulated though .. about 2 inches maybe.

I even made it to exercise today! I walked 35 laps and did 12 min on the machine. Also did a few weights.

I also took my little Christmas tree down tonight and put up all the decorations.

My mid back has been hurting. I think it's from the different beds I slept in while traveling. So good to be back in MY BED last night. I really haven't slept well in the past 2 weeks. Got plenty of rest last night. YEA!

Hope everyone has been doing well!!

Welcome back, Lymetoo! Glad to hear it was a safe trip.

I have lost track of my Tai Chi days. But I have been to the mail a couple of times. I have been trying to tackle paperwork. [Eek!]

Have a good day everyone!

I'll be back to read what others have posted when able.

Walked into dog park this am at kind of dawn..still pretty dark out. Short stay...just enough for Rosie to do her thing.

Then walked into grocery store and got into electric cart. Really struggled with picking up a few things this am but got the job done and was able to get a book of stamps and a couple rolls of quarters for laundry.

used my power chair to get groceries out of car and bring into apartment. Put refrig stuff away and then will put other stuff away when able.

Checked bank acct and last trip to the grocery store was on the 3rd. Thought it had been longer.

oh kam...it must be hard to go to laundry. i hated that. i am so glad i have it in my apt now.

i planned for this latest snow storm so have plenty of totes in the house to go thru and sort and repack etc. i got 3 kitchen totes down to just one small one and no bathroom totes...i put the extra handicap shower things in the hardware tote. almost done with kitchen and bath. i need to get on step stool for the last part and its too late for that now.

i cleaned the truck off twice but it is still covered---its too cold. and theres a lot of ice cuz it rained before it snowed. i miss walking but i am really scared of falling. we need a january thaw...then a few more storms so i finish getting this place organizd and then spring can come...horses, kayaks and ocean walks!!!

some of you know i had to put my mini-schnauzer down the friday before thanksgiving. i am still not over it at all but i have been looking for dogs on line and i found this 2 yr old in GA with 3 legs and i fell in love with him. i applied to adopt him but i haven't heard back from them . he had a really hard time and was in a lot of pain and i just feel i can relate to that. he loves the ocean and in the video looks like he wants to go so far in he swims. i bet hes like to kayak with me...

Again, will get back to the posts to read what others are doing when able.

Able to do the 10 min loop this evening. The brooks are babbling. Nice. Still small enough I can step across but know they will get wider soon.

Hi everyone! My computer's finally up and limping along.

Used to have Windows XP and had an extra OS, Windows Vista and installed that on my laptop.

So that took care of the virus I got a couple of weeks ago.

Still have to dink around with my computer because it's running so slow.

BTW, can't take credit for the fix. Went to Best Buy and was told it would take $199.99 to fix my computer, which caused me to have a cow (not a pretty sight) right there in the store. The guy took pity on me and told me to remove Yahoo Toolbar if I had it and if that didn't work to reinstall my OS.

So I'm up and running and sure have missed you all.

Went back to read what all I've missed these past couple of weeks and you all are doing great!

Karen, I must warn you if you come down here and eat my 'wonderful' cooking you'll end up looking like me and my hubs.

This year, I swear we could have passed for Mr. and Mrs. Claus! We are a matching pair of bookends with our tummies sticking waaaayyy out! [lol]

Me and Rocky have been doing our usual walking of just a little over a mile.

One day Rocky wanted to keep going so we walked maybe 2 miles and I ended up having to give him a Vicodin and Soma. He was limping so badly.

He is stubborn and hard-headed and doesn't know when to quit. Where on earth did he learn that from? [Roll Eyes]

JD-Glad to hear about the hardware removal and hope the pt goes really well.

JD and those who have aches and pains (all of us?) my hero of a massage therapist gave me some samples of something called Penetran Plus.

Don't know what's in it or how much it is but man oh man! It really helps. I'll check on the internet for info and post later about it.

I've really missed you all and will post later.

[group hug] [group hug] [group hug]

Welcome back, Aklnwlf!

I have done Tai Chi two days in a row. It takes about 30 minutes including warm up and cool down.

Today I am off to the big city. For Brewster's annual. Poor thing is getting some shots. So I will not have time to get my Tai Chi done.

Have a good day everyone!
Karen

Around the block in upright power chair at 2 am last night. Not sure why Rosie woke me up...she usually does that when she has the runs.

Not sure if she did or not...to dark out to tell

Around the block again this am after 2 excedrin...good to be out and grateful for the reclining power chair with leg lifts.

But, moment of doing better did not last long...down for the count again...not able to watch TV...moves too fast and sound is too much.

Grateful for mindless games to take mmy mind off of yuckiness

its cold here.

still unpacking...almost done with kitchen and bath and attacking hardware today...no cellar or garage or shed or anything...i need to get creative

i'm gaining weight. i'm scared to ride, its too icey to walk, can't kayak now...

i'm kinda bummed about this. its why i left nh. except here i could ride but i'm scared.

i realize in this new place there is room for the sauna OR the stepper...right now i'm thinking it will be the sauna...cuz hopefully this is a really wierd year and there won't be so much ice and snow stopping me most of the time.

more snow tomorrow pm so i am really gonna try to find a place to walk ice free tomorrow morning...

Friday-Me and Rocky a little over a mile.

Saturday-Me and Rocky a little over a mile.

Today was another day from hell.

Me and Rocky got about 1/8 a mile and had an interaction with a neighbor's pitbull that either jumped the fence or was let loose.

We're ok.

I was packing, thank God!

I keep yelling at the dog to 'git' over and over but the closer we got to the street he lives on he wouldn't budge.

Yes, we weren't even on the same street that he lives on.

This is the third time this has happened.

The second time my husband was with me and all three of the dogs jumped the fence and came at us.

This time the dog got to close and was snarling and lungeing. (We didn't get bit.)

Needless to say I had an altercation with the owner who came out and tried to subdue her dog to no avail.

I called the popo and am thinking of taking out a warrant against the owner.

She was very ugly to me. Saw I was packing and I told her to get her dog or I would shoot it.

She blamed me for her dog's highly aggressive behavior and things went downhill from there.

Will it never end?

Other than that, trying to salvage my weekend.

Able to stand at sink and put a few dishes in DW and start it up. REsting now and then hoping to get dressed, get Rosie to dog park for toileting and then off to the grocery store using the electric cart.

Car also needs gas but hoping it will hold out until I can get to the gas station.

haven't been able to read how others are doing yet...maybe later gator.

Sleep in bed part of the night last night. Makes a big difference

Hurray! Able to get Rosie to dog park at day break and get to the grocery store. They also had my favorite electric cart available.

Able to put away the refrig stuff. Resting now and then most likely breakfast and meds and supplements.
