This is something I can't believe I didn't have the wherewithal to ask before. I was bit in Hunterdon County, NJ, in Mendham specifically-- I was wondering if anyone knew what trees to bark up to find out what co-infections ticks from that area generally carry. I know I have Lyme, and I'm suspecting Babesia.

Many thanks,

This is off the top of my head, so please don't hold me to it, but given you border Northhampton, Bucks, and Warren county, and you are in NJ in general, I'd be looking into:

- infection with not only Borrelia burgdorferi, but possible infection with Borrelia lonestari
- infection with HGA
- infection with Babesia

This is based on what I last remember reading about epidemiological studies around your area, the PA/NJ border. Also seems to be what most patients are coinfected with anyway.

I live in Mendham....nestled between a wildlife preserve and another 15 mile trail.

Ticks are an every day event in my life..and it seems lyme has been with me since at least 2004.

According to my LLMD more ticks in this area carry Bart then actual lyme.

My dog has had many bouts with erlichiosis and myself with babs and my husband with bart so..all three are a high probability.

Both myself and my husband have mostly neuro symptoms as well. Hope that helps.

Bartonella is more common than lyme according to my LLMD as well...in NJ that is.

I think even more so in South Jersey.

Which part of NJ, do you know?

Where did your LLMD get info - from patient tests, or other sources as well?

I'd still look at these other coinfections as possibilities, along with Bart.

lpkayak,

Do you have Skype on your computer and a microphone/headset?

Because I know people are forming their own weekly online support groups this way if they can't make it to a location in person.

I'm not on one of these groups now, but they're out there and maybe you could create one? I'd call in for a NJ meeting if someone held one.

Thanks for your replies. I've been treating for Babesia, but haven't really looked into Bartonella.

Desertwind-- that 15 mile trail is where I suspect I got it!

Camp other,

My LLMD's info I believe is from patients tests and patients treated for it in the practice.

I believe I read the South Jersey part in the Lyme Disease Solution. I lent the book out to a friend so I can't check unfortunately.

When I went to my LLMD the first appt I was told immediately by my doc after listening to my symptoms that bart was a bigger contributer to my problems than lyme. Man wa that right! After treated bart the only lingering lyme issue is arthritis in my knees.

Oh and by South Jersey I mean the Pinelands which honestly can be as east as Ocean County and all the way south to Cape May county. Pinelands cover a huge area.

Yup, I have Patriots Path is right behind my house

My LLMD is part of an organization and advisory board in NJ that has and continues to conduct research on ticks in this area. I am not sure of their/his methodology however.

South Jersey might be somewhat different from North Jersey and Eastern PA, but like everyone has said: ticks don't know where the state lines are drawn.

If you lived in Mendham, you could easily have Lyme,Babs and Bart.

I lived in Bridgewater, Somerset County, all three in our house have Lyme, Babs and Bart.

You lived in a beautiful area. Too bad the ticks are so plentiful and infected.

New Jersey sucks.......well, not the state, just the ticks.

Coming from that area of New Jersey, you should be treated for all three. Just my opinion.
