I am a jazz bassist. I got a bunch of joint and hand problems as well as neruo stuff. Carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel. I couldnt bend my arms for almost 3 months due to pain. I hope my hand will heal so I can play again some day. Anyone else play and got back to it after treatment?

That's so cool, Deshi!! My husband is a musician. He loves to play jazz. He plays all the woodwinds. Main instruments are clarinet and the saxes.
There was a guy here named Steve who plays guitar but I haven't seen him lately.
Having Lyme and playing a stringed instrument is a rough go. Sure hope you can get it all back SOON!!

I play the violin. Mostly classical and bluegrass. I have has to put it down for almost a year. I was really getting into music theory when my Lyme kicked in to overdrive. For me, it is the cognitive symptoms. I cannot understand what I am trying to do. Man, do I miss it. I feel so disconnected from myself without it. And I had just bought a new violin. I can't wait for the fog to lift, and I can return to my practice. I hope you can return to it too. I know exactly how you feel.

I play the clarinet and piano. Went to a conservatory for clarinet performance. Cannot play it anymore after i had my tonsils and adenoids taken out (right after I had graduated from music school, go figure!!) somehow get all mucusy and start gagging after playing for 30 min. So sad.. I really wanted to pursue life as a professional musician.
I have not tried to play in over 8 years though but would love to try again in the future.

My son plays the guitar and drums.
When he was at his worst, he couldn't play the guitar - his fingers just wouldn't work right.
He has been able to play the drums the whole time, but still has coordination issues with the guitar.
We are hoping he'll be able to get back to it.

He doesn't come around lymenet much anymore but a guy in NY whose screen name is happycarlessdave is also a jazz musician. I think he did get his chops back.
So sorry, penguingirl. Musicians make the world a better place.

I play keyboard - I thought I had repetitive strain injury for a long time due to unexplainable symptoms.
I eventually trained with an ergonomic keyboard teacher who taught injured musicians how to play ergonomically. It's about how to support your body in its movement.
Boy, were we surprised when I came in with an actual diagnosis!
I'd have to say that taking clindamycin has helped the most with alleviating soft tissue pain. I am looking forward to strengthening my joints more maybe with the glucosamine stuff.
I healed a lot of my body in the swimming pool with stretches -
So maybe the various components contributing to your health challenge could be looked at and some thinking done about how to alleviate.
You're welcome to pm me if you'd like.

I used to play the violin.
I used to be an auto-mechanic.
I used to dream up inventions and read Tesla and Einstein for enjoyment.
17+ years since I could do any of that!

Well Tutu you just became even cooler now that we both play the same instrument.
Yes very sad that I cannot play - my goal is to maybe be able to teach younger students on the side or something as that way at least I'm still using my talent somehow.
My LLMD thinks it's an allergy issue (how I get mucus buildup when I play now) so maybe once we get this lyme thing under control we can figure something out.. cuz the ENT who did my surgery was NOT nice about it (shoved a scope down my throat while I played for him and told him I need about 30 min to get the gurling sound to take place and he said, well I don't have 30 min for you and I said can I play in another room while you see your other patients and then you can come back to check on me? and he said, no).
I thought he was supposed to be decent since he operated on Aerosmith's lead singers nodules.. well he might be fine surgically but no bedside manners!!

Well... you became very cool to me too!! (actually, you were already cool!)
I've recently been wanting to play again and my husband bought a new clarinet. I told him that now I could play his old one! He teasingly told me no. (he's that way)
Now he wants to sell it. I think he wants to buy some recording equipment. (he has tons .. but you know .. things get outdated)
I had hoped for duets!

I play the piano, but it is more of a struggle these days. My hands are stiff and the joints in my fingers swell. I do sit down from time and time and give it a try.

Have not been here in awhile, however, feeling Lymey today. However, I play bass and guitar, gardening. Very difficult with Lyme. Hands cramp with any repetitive motion. You need a few months. You will be back to it soon enough. Get your strength back and keep moving forward. Humility and patience, a good LLMD, and support network. You will play and you will have fun again.
Stay with those that encourage you. Music was the first thing to come back after over 1yr and half of doxy and zith combo. It'll come back.
