We used to apply it to our dog's muscles and joints. It is some STINKY stuff, but came highly recommended. It was so long ago that I can't recall if it made a difference or not. Horse folks often use it as well I think. Worth a shot IMO!

I want to use it over my medicine to make the medicine stronger. F.e. I use abx cream at the moment for skin issues and if I cover it with DMSO it works a lot better.
Also I dissolve tablets and apply it on the skin so I do not have to swallow so much, f.e. in the aereas with throbbing.
The smell is a problem, but you can cover the aerea with a bandaid.

I am very sceptical about using DMSO because of its ability to transport any single tiny bacteria on the skin directly into the blood stream.
I knew a guy in college who used to put it on the back of his neck to treat his migraines. It worked very quickly. But he did point out that he cleaned and sterilized his skin before using the DMSO. He was using stuff he got from the chem labs.

I work with horses for most of my life. We used DMSO but sparingly. Also we always wore golves to apply it.
One of the reasons is that too much of it can cause detatched retna. And as already said it will carry anthing on your skinn directly to the blood stream.
be very careful
