Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if any of you are no longer working and receiving disability benefits? Also, was it hard to get it?

Thanks for any info.

Because of what lyme has done to me ? YES

hire or talk to a lawyer if you dont have a cut and dry case...

It can be a nightmare esp when you are brain fogged from lyme,
would hate to cya miss out,
cuz you forgot to sign it..

I went on short term disability that my llmd put me on, thank god for him, the family doctor gave me such a hard time completing the forms. I haven't looked into long term which is social security disability because I don't feel I am at that point yet. I am going to return to work as soon as the symptoms subside which they have but some are lingering. Just know if you are looking into perm disability thru social security, it does take up to 4 months and sometimes longer depending on your individual situation. My short term requires that the doc puts you out and details how you can't do your job and how he is treating you. That is thru Unum Life. social security disability req that you can no longer do your job but also cannot engage in what they call substantial gainful activity,,,meaning if you can work and earn over 1000.00 gross dollars per month (bef taxes) that your not disabled according to social security. That is a federal benefit and they have their own federal rules regardless if your doc says you can or can't work. It also looks at age, work history along with medical evidence. so it's not so cut and dry as a short term disability policy. My family doc has been treating me for Lyme since 2009. I have had three CDC positive tests during the last two years and one as recent as March 2011. I've had two rounds of Doxy orally, of course not for a long enough time so here I am on the right oral dose of two different types. I also have some underlying health issues, nothing major but enough to cause some of their own minor problems and combine them with the lyme symptoms and it was enough to take me down. My family doc didn't ans one of the ques right on the claim form and I went through hell trying to get them to change it otherwise the ins co wld've denied my claim. I had to fight for that. Then the LLMD filled it out no problem and put me out for up to 4 months.!!!! Thank god for him because I needed the rest and nonstress filled days to recoop and fight this with all I have. so don't give up and fight for it even if you think you can't. One other thing keep in mind if you go for social security disability, everyone thinks if you have an attorney you will get approved NOT TRUE. the attorney NEVER interacts with the people who decide your claim. Your local office will take the claim and forward it to a disability center where medical adjudicators will get all your records AND pay for them and decide based on your type of work history, age and medical records. Attorneys will take 25 percent of your money if you are approved and they do absolutely NOTHING> Keep that in mind.

One other thing in many situation the so called social security attorneys, don't even give out the right information to people so BEWARE their out to make a profit. if your not sure go to your local office and talk to a Claims Representative or go on their website SSA.Gov all the federal rules and policy is on there and DON"T file online if your going to file. the website makes it sound so easy, not only is it difficult for some but your claim will sit on a list and get worked by date order which could make your timeframe much longer. Make the appointment and go into the office or do a telephone appt.

Hi Kristi
Yes, I am on dissability.I hate it ,i feel like a second class person.

I cannot in any way hold down a regular job due to Lyme damage and 38 years working in toxic chemicals, and lifting heavy objects.

I have inhaled asbestos on the same job and my lungs have small airways disease.

The chems gave me interstitial cystitis ,the pain keeps me up all night, then i fall asleep driving to work and run off the road.

My back is so bad i am partially paralised,
Both shoulders are shot,I have 3 blown tendons,
Babs, borderline chrons ,3 strokes, damaged optic nerves yep trifocals i do wear.Reacuring shingles, epstein barr, natural killer cell count of only 8,some kind of monkey virus from the original polio vacseen.

I forgot about 7 more things.

But still i feel like i am cheating somehow.

I don't like being disabled not one bit!!!!!!!

and the system that you paid in owes you and anyone that was thrown a curve,
I am very ill at times - and non productive,
it s-c-ks ... I must admit you made me feel better reading the amount of health issues you have faced.. God be with you.

JLAW good advice and the best to anyone trying to get what's right.
