I am looking for a couple of print outs that I could share with my mom.
Here is the situation: my mom is 82 years old, and she does believe and understand I have Lyme disease. What she does not understand is why I am not able to just be treated and "be all better."
I am going the "naturals" route, and I did find a good, basic print out about my meds to share with her.
What I am looking for is something that will explain Lyme in layperson's terms, and will also explain why it may take a long time (months, years) to become well again.
She keeps telling me that two of her friends had Lyme disease, and one even had it for a long time before they caught it and they took antibiotics and they are fine now. For the friend of hers who had it a long time, she relapsed one time, went back on abx, and she is fine now.
So, my mom is having trouble understanding why this will take time. I did also explain the herxheimer reaction to her and about toxins building, but she still says, "I don't know why you aren't just taking medicine and getting better. I don't understand why this takes so long. Are you sure this doctor knows what she is doing giving you those drops, etc.?"
I can't really find anything that will explain to her, in simple terms, why I may be in for the fight of my lifetime. I don't want her to be afraid, just informed.
If anyone has a link to an article or any other ideas/suggestions, I am open to them.

dr. s. has a wonderful book that is easy to read, large print for lyme patients.
it runs about 15-20 i think.

I am very worn out, and I am heading to bed, but I will be checking out all the links tomorrow and choose one or two to print. Or possibly send her a link to the blog/website, or whatever I choose.
I know if it is "too much," she will become overwhelmed and just stop reading or not read at all. She is very intelligent and an avid reader, she has an active mind at 82 years, but I still feel it has to explain things simply and to the point. I know she will not do the extensive reading and research that I try to do.
I don't know why I am having such a hard time explaining this aspect to her, either. Probably because she just chimes in with her two examples, lol, and then immediately questions my doctor's judgement. She has come a long way in opening up and understanding more about integrative medicine, but I am sure she just worries because this involves me.
