I have times when getting dressed is not do able. But, I need to get my dog out to toilet via the power chair.

So, looking for ideas for soft, cotton clothes to sleep in and wear outdoors...hot here 100 degrees...needs to also be cool.

I was wearing scrubs but it is too hot to wear them now.

Ideas?

How about a light cotton dress. I wear the kind that come below my knee. I have to have cotton!
Call it a muu muu, duster, dress......I call it comfort. I do buy a few-different colors, so I look like I do change clothes!
Penneys? Sears?

I have been browsing for cotton dresses too but have yet to find one....

A dress is tricky...needs to come to at least my knees when I am in the power chair..wind can not blow it up over my head...fashion police really get me on that one..

and it can not get caught in the power chair wheels

Check out the Jersey Gauchos $12.50 (scroll about halfway down the page). I have a couple of these. Love them. They are actually hand me downs from my sister. I can wear them around the house during the day and sleep in them if I want. I've also worn them to my acupuncture appts and to the store. . .

http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=5417

Scroll down towards the bottom, they have some plain colored tees that you could wear day or night. Some are actually on sale for $3.99 and $5.99

http://www.kohls.com

Kohls is another good store to order any basic type clothing. They have an excellent return policy.

You can get good prices at Target but it is a hassle to try to return something if need.

Sammy...thanks...the gouchos and t's just might do it.

Now, I need my brain to work well enough to order them.

Shop Kohl's clearance weekly. I like to buy clearance and have 15% and free shipping all at the same time. Don't always find it until seasons change and they reduce it cheap enough.

I buy PJs that way all year long at really cheap prices. I wear long pants and t-shirt short or long sleeve according to the seasons.

I do mix and match too pieces cheap from kohl's. Sometimes it takes me a long while in the mornings to get going.

Sometimes I don't come alive until after noon or 1 pm. Sometimes I have to walk out to the paperbox and nighties don't get it. TBTG I can walk. kam, can I borrow your scooter sometime?

Maybe if I didn't have such a hard time at night with insomnia and not being able to go to sleep until 2-3 am, I could get up with the birds.

Happy shopping kam.

Ok, Ms. Fashion here doesn't know..

Are those gaucho pants full length pants (to ankle) or just go to under the knee (mid-calf), or are they real shorts?

My really old old old Conway Twitty tee shirt is getting really pitiful and I could use some hang out stuff when people pop by, like today while me and Conway were coupled up and I didn't expect company.

Conway Twitty tee?! Love it.. that's classic. I haven't heard any of his songs in a long while!

I agree with Sammy--Old Navy is a good place to look for inexpensive clothes--they have reasonable prices and have really good sales now and again!

I wonder why the old navy link isn't working for you? It shows up on my computer? You could look at it by going to the old navy website, women's section, then select "lounge and sleep".

The gouchos hit just below the knee on me. I'm about 5' 4" so they may be a little longer or shorter on you.

i used to be a very fashionable person and was always complimented on what i wear...

this disease has turned me into one frumpy individual though!

i am thinking about buying pajama pants that look like jeans. i saw some at wal-mart last night.

they are clearly pajama pants, but don't look quite as pajama-ish as regular ones.

i pretty much always wear pajama pants and a baggy t-shirt.

i used to wear short sleeve cotton t-shirts, but now those are so uncomfortable, i had to switch to sleeveless baggy tees.

i bought some solid colored ones from target.

katie...i too have to wear soft fabric. A friend brought me a green t that says plain nuts on it.

Can't wear it..too scratchy and itchy. HA!

Who would have thought a t shirt wouldn't work

i totally get it kam!

i am so uncomfortable, even in the most comfortable clothing out there.

if i find a t-shirt that doesn't irritate me, i stock up!

my problem is that any sort of weight (even clothing) on my body makes my joints hurt. it's hard to believe light weight clothes can cause me so much discomfort!

i turn down plans all the time because they would require getting dressed in appropriate clothing, and the misery isn't worth it!

my husband usually just takes me on drives while i sit in my pajamas... nobody can see me that way, and i can enjoy the scenery comfortably [Smile]

Katie...I have given myself permission to wear my PJ's to toilet my service dog in my power chair too.

It doesnt' even bother me during the day time when I am out...but for some reason when it is the middle of the night and I am gong down main street in town I feel a bit weird and hope the police don't stop me. [Smile]

Rosie gets the runs sometimes so she wakes me up and off we go out in the middle of the night.

I go down main street then as I want to stay on the sidewalk vs being on the side streets on the streets ...if a car came they would not be able to see me.

I purchased a robe by Canyon Group before I got sick.

I put the robe over my Pj's.

But, I do need something cooler for the summer outings. [Smile]

Have yet to find cotton sweats that don't bother my skin. Strange.

I have even given up on sweatshirts. Ok for a short time but all day something happens and they need to be taken off.

We should start a thread for soft clothes. [Smile]

You guys are lucky if you can wear leggings and tight stuff. It makes me so itch!!

So I live in the sun dresses or these http://www.greenappleactive.com/index.php?page=product&product=113&cart=0

I have really sensitive skin so I now have to wear organic clothes! They are pricey BUT they last FOREVER!! I only get a few basics pieces and wear them all the time. They are super soft, breathable and so comfy you will never want to wear anything else!!

Yeah, I too have a handful of soft clothes with stretchy waistbands that I wear all the time. My fluid retention seems to wax and wane greatly, so it all has to be stretchy in order to accommodate. Anything constricting is painful or at a minimum uncomfortable. Even the pants I'm wearing today aren't stretchy enough. Hard part is finding plus size soft clothes that fit right. I've heard Walmart sells soft stuff in plus size, but that store is so huge and packed full of people that it stresses me out too much. I supposed I could shop online, though. But, it's hard to tell how stretchy and soft something is without touching it first.

It's funny how just the size of a parking lot will make me alter my plans as to whether to shop somewhere or not. I spend the extra money on food in order to shop at the health food store because their parking lot and store is smaller and requires less walking.

I can't handle walmart either Jenifer. I need the waistband that expands too due to bloating.

Thankfully, there is a thrift shop down the street from me that I go to when I am able.

Every once and awhile I come home with something that is a treat.

Soft LLBean shirt or was it Land End a while back.

Shorts are more difficult to find as I usually don't have what it takes to try things on so just hold them up to me.

SG...going to check out your site now. If I hear of something like this then I keep an eye out for pre owned on ebay.

Noticed organic cotton the other day on the site and wondered how soft it was

Oh! Maybe someone should come up with "Lyme Wear" that only has really super soft clothes that are super stretchy in all sizes? Stuff that someone has already touched and pulled on that understands how soft they need to be. That would be wonderful. Ahhh, pipe dreams!

kam,

be careful going out in your power chair in the middle of the night down mainstreet!

i've been robbed at gunpoint in my own garage, and the thought of you going down the street in a powerchair in the dark really makes me nervous!

i would think you would look like an easy target!

do you carry any sort of protection with you?

also, my vet says it's safe to give my dogs peptobismal for diarreah.

they love the cherry flavor!

it might help you...

even if you aren't worried about crime, it would probably make your life easier qas i'm sure you don't feel like going out in the night.

I just ordered some very soft, lightweight shorts and tops from Hanes.com. They have some outfits called "leisure" wear, that can double as PJ's and stuff to wear outside the house. Perfect for me. Go online and check it out. They frequently have sales too, or codes for free shipping.

Thanks. That was it. Thought I had done a search but don't recall finding what I did this time on the site you posted.

There is another lady here at the apartments in a power chair who always looks so nice.

I have noticed lately she wears the short leggings.

OMG! I just bought the most comfy pair of pants! If you're on the plus side of clothes, Catherine's has pants called "New Yoga Pants" that are super comfy. The fabric is really soft and the waistband is really stretchy. I have a hard time sitting in pants that bind anywhere and need to have a super stretchy waistband - so far, these are great for me:

http://catherines.lanebryant.com/the-new-yoga-pants/p109439/index.pro

I got the petite size. Turned out a tiny bit shorter in the legs than I prefer, but I sit all day long, so it's not a big deal for me to show a bit of sock to and from the car.

This is good to know. Especially since fall is in the air now.

I did get some inexpensive shorts from WM ..danskin. Since they were cotton I thought I would be OK.

But, nope. They itch and I can't keep them on for long so sleeping in them and then wearing them the next day didn't work.

Going back to see what the above pants are made of.

The athletic stores sell shorts made out of jersey material, and many of them have a drawstring. They are very soft. You can get them in different lengths too.

Some of the men's shorts fit me better and aren't quite as short. Not wanting to show off my legs anymore!

Capris made out of the same material might work too. I also have some of those with a drawstring. I think they are made by Adidas.

Good luck.

I wear capris and a t-shirts in summer and sweats in the winter. Sleep in them and get up and wear during the day. I have to have pockets. So this combo works for me.

Oh shoes, I have to have comfy ones I found Easy Spirit has a slip on one have worn for years they are also my house slippers and outside ones. They are called bluedot and comes in black, navy, white and beige .. I have the white and black. Love them, cause my balance is not good and these shoes have been great. Expensive but well worth the price.

I am on the heavy side so have found some inexpensive outfits from Blair..

Glad to know I am not the only one that sleeps in and wear the next day..

Thanks for the tip on shoes. I never thought I would purchase pre owned shoes but since coming down with lyme and company I have discovered ebay.

Before lyme and company, I felt a good pair of shoes was a good investment. My shoes lasted me a long time.

i've gotten to where i just slob around when i'm in the house.

has to come off fast cause when i have to go, i mean i have to go NOW....

tops have to come off easy, no zippers or buttons, so i prefer pullover types.

i go to kohl's cause they have a good selection of large and 1x in all colors.

when i go out, which isn't often anymore, i wear cotton duck slacks. also comfortable shoes, cause my feet always hurt. i wear new balance and sketchers.

never shopped at old navy. i just go to walmart and home lately.

I too no longer wear blouses with buttons:

1. Some need ironing and that just isn't possible.

2. too much precious energy used in buttoning things up...no energy left

That and my fine motor skills aren't what they used to be so no buttons for me, either. I also take my shoes off when I get to work and slip into a pair of slippers. Nobody has complained about it so far, but then I don't walk around the building in them ... much. I'm starting to think maybe a moo-moo is the greatest invention ever :-)

It amazes me at times how small adjustments make a big difference.

Most days I stay in my pj's and found a really comfy style on Ebay Karen Neuburger?sp I get short sleeve capri length and bought several pairs...expensive if pay retail $70 -$90 pr but I've gotten them for $20- $30 pair

My "uniform" when I do get dressed is cotton capri's and sleeveless t's have them in all colors, bra less unless company is coming.
No buttons, no belts.

Shoes are all birkenstock sandals that I can just slip my foot into....again I have bought a few new retail but some I've gotten used off eBay for 25% of retail. Birkis are more comfortable to me than even slippers.

Winter is sweats and t-shirt.

Comfort reigns the day.

Now, that it is getting cooler I can go back to wearing my scrubs and slippers. [Smile]

I like Karen N PJ's too. I keep going up a size so the ones I purchased before lyme and company no longer fit.

The sweats I had I could not have on for long. Can't recall why now. I just know I can't wear some fabrics.

I need to keep to soft cottons for the most part.

Yeah, my sweats are too tight in the waistband - they just aren't making elastic stretchy enough these days. That and I couldn't stand the eleastic around the ankle. Oh! And you no longer only get a drawstring pant, they have to sew elastic into those as well. Elastic is my new nemesis! I've taken to ... er ... sleeping nude at night because clothing is so irritating. ugh

I miss sleeping nude. But, since moving into an apartment and never knowing when the fire alarm is going to go off...

...and not being quick thinking or moving enough to get dressed and get out of the apartment...

..I started wearing something that I could get outside if need be and be in my power chair.

I am pretty drugged when I go to sleep due to using drugs to help me sleep.

They happen here and are very loud. I have one right in my apartment unit. Wish they could unplug that one. I can't think when it goes off.

Thought I would post an update about the Yoga Pants from Catherine's... the more I washed them, the shorter they got. I then went back and got the regular length (instead of the petite). If you're not petite, then even the regular length might be too short for you. I still think they're super comfy [Smile]
