I called over to a family members house after reading a status update on FB, made by his wife, that had me a bit concerned.

Anyway...this family member whom I will refer to as *Joe just for ease in reading has apparently been really sick for the past 3 days.

I'm very concerned and I think it is a combo of lyme and babesia.

Joe is so not the complainer and even when he gets sick, he doesn't really get this sick.

He has been in bed for 3 days with high fevers, profuse sweating, weakness and not being able to function.

He lives in a highly endemic area for lyme and his daughter was actually treated for 6 weeks for a tick bite with EM rash a couple of years ago.

Their house is backed up to the woods.

They have a dog.

He had two other known tick bites, one when he was a teen and neither of them were treated even though he actually had the EM rash. This was years ago.

My thinking is he got bit again and this has sent him over the edge so to speak.

I called his wife and was very adamant in that she at least had to get him to the ER ASAP! He has also been vomiting, and combined with the profuse sweating....he needs to change his clothes and the sheets...my guess is he is dehydrated.

He hasn't urinated in over 24 hours. I think I scared his wife a bit b/c I started talking about acute renal failure related to the dehydration. I told her to just call the ambulance and not to give him a choice.

I don't think she'll go that far though.

Needless to say, I'm am extremely concerned! I called his mother and had her call him as well. They aren't listening and it is very frustrating that people could be so damned stubborn!!!!!

Ugh! It is what it is and there isn't much more I can do but I wish there was.

What do you think would happen if you called 911 in their area? Just a thought.

Ugh, hasn't urinated in 24 hours?
Tell them if he goes to the ER, he would get intravenous fluids right away, which would help.

Do they know enough to buy Pedialyte?
They don't realize that the electrolytes can get out of whack.
And they don't realize what can happen to the kidneys when a person is so dehydrated.

It's too bad that you don't live close enough to evaluate him.
Has his wife posted an update?

i'm so sorry. it IS very frustrating when people won't listen.

i've had to learn such hard lessons. that's why i say, it's up to them, not you, to interfere.

you tried and sometimes that's all you can do.

ditto what randi said

i'm learning this lesson now

it is better to offer advice once in a short, sweet way...and then learn to "let it go"

the stress is not good for YOUR immune system

Well, looks like I did get through to her. She was able to get him to at least go and see the doctor. Doc said it is probably a virus, which I highly doubt!!!! but they drew blood work "just in case."

He actually sees my old PCP whom is a jerk. I told her to get copies of the results and that I want to see them. Also to find a new doc!

I have a feeling though that all of his symptoms weren't mentioned to the doc but I cannot be sure about that.

I'm gonna call over there today and see how he is doing. I did tell his wife last night that I highly doubted this was a virus. She actually agreed with me and said he was sick about a month ago as well with some of the same symptoms but not as extreme.

The other somewhat good news is that three other people, whom I do not know posted comments on her status as well about pursuing the lyme angle even the doc said that wasn't it. Makes me not look so crazy for being so adamant about it! Lol.

Apparently, one girl had to be taken from work in an ambulance she was so sick. Ended up being lyme.

anyway...I'll keep you posted.
