Hoarding is a type of OCD. Borrelia in the brain is known to cause psych. manifestations, including OCD.
Yes, I've watched many an episode of Hoarders. What struck me was the RAGE, the over-the-top sudden angry outbursts some of the hoarders exhibited. This is Lyme. These people are riddled with spirochetes.

I think their world is just toxic, toxic and more toxic. Mental issues caused by toxins?
Or just mental issues that became even worse with the toxic waste dumps they live in?
I remember I told my LLMD one time that my goal was to own and run a used book store some day. He told me, warning warning a closed enviroment surrounded by paper/books that could hold mold spores and other toxic chemicals would be very hard on your over stressed system.
I moved on from that dream real quick.

How do we know that show just isn't exaggerated some by the producers honestly? I've watched it several times. Seems over the top to me.

We don't know for sure but my mother is a horder (thank god I'm not). Based on my experience with her, I can believe it can be as bad as the show portrays. My mother just turned 80 and we still have to clean out her assisted living apartment on a regular basis because she continues to buy from the Good Will even with her limited funds.

I don't think that all hoarders have Lyme. They obviously have some kind of mental disorder that could have been caused by trauma (physical or emotional), toxins, infection, etc. Some people may also have a genetic predisposition towards the behavior.
One of my grandparents is a hoarder. She won't admit it but she won't let you in her house either.
She only started the obvious hoarding behavior about 10-15yrs ago. She doesn't keep trash. She keeps stuff that she thinks she might be able to use one day. And she would give you anything in there if she thought you might be able to use it.
It's sad because she has so much stuff that she cannot sleep in her own bed anymore. She can't have friends over for coffee. And most importantly, there is no place for her grandkids (me!) to come and visit!
For my grandma, I think that the hoarding condition is genetic. Her brother and one sister also have this. My grandma is otherwise very healthy.
