Would you believe that my daughter, son-in-law and grandsons experienced an earthquake going to Ocean City, MD for vacation and now they will experience a hurricane as they have a mandatory evacuation of OC by 5 pm Friday?!!!
What natural disaster is next?

Oh man, I am so not looking forward to this! Went through a 150 mile an hr hurricane that hit dead on in Miami Beach back in the 60's. Looked like a war zone the next day.
Penguingirl,
Get some canned foods like tuna, chips, salsa, olives..things like that.
Have to go get flashlight and candles.
P. S.
Thinking of roasting marshmellows over candles. Not for yeasties.

Gael- heading out for batteries myself this AM, if there are any left anywhere. Hugs, Carol- stay safe!! Penguin- TC's thread on hurricane preparedness has lots of detailed info...
Dek- yep, we're having earthquakes and a hurricane in the same week. Next up is surely locusts...
Hi Mo!!!!!!! Very long time no hear!
Hope you're OK and stay OK through Irene, which in NY sounds like, at the very least, not being anywhere near low-lying areas.
Hugs, Dill

My husband filled plastic gallon bags with water and stuck them in the freezer last night. If we lose power, which we always do, we need something to keep our food cold until we can eat it.
I refuse to get a generator because I want my children to realize life without power every now and then. Plus, it's kind of expensive.

Good idea about the bra. Maybe we should err on the safe side and also make sure to wear clean underwear?! Posts: 2507 | From lost in the maze | Registered: Aug 2006

Yeah dilly, clean underwear is always a good idea, and for those with dentures, don't forget to put them in.
Philly weather just went from a hurricane watch to a warning. Could this week be any more stressful for us Lymies?

Can't find any link to click, Carol. But it is already showing the outer edge of the hurricane on the coasts of GA, SC, and NC. Seems odd that Ocracoke Island is only reporting light winds at this point.

It could be raining deer ticks Gael.
Trying to make light of a bad situation.
My sister (best friend) is thirty minutes north of Phili. I just talked to her. The first thing she says is that they've got "two cases of beer, five bottles of wine, a bunch of food and the lawn chairs are in the garage.......we're good." We did have a good laugh 'cause there's no trees around her home to come down as the storm two years ago took five of them. They just installed a generator.
So, she's got a scary movie, brother Erich, beef tips and some wine, along with her beautiful family to ride out the storm. Actually, she says it couldn't have happened on a better day, and she seems kinds excited.
Moral of the story....get to the liquor store.

My son and his girlfriend left Ocean City, MD this morning and went on a planned visit to see his best friend from high school and his wife in Philly.
They plan to come home on Sunday....I hope they decide to drive home sooner or they will not make it on Sunday, I think.
Be safe everyone!

Fingers crossed that I don't get a double whammy this weekend - I live at the 'Jersey Shore' and also have properties in the northern Outer Banks of NC. Both coastal NJ and the Outer Banks are in the bullseye path. We've prepared the best we can but frankly I'm getting a bit scared. Please keep me in your thoughts.

Hey 2r,
I think if I had any liquor I would land in the E.R. I can't even smoke maryj, because the last time I smoked it 8 yrs ago for pain, I was hallucinating that I was channeling an Eagle.
Of course that was after I saw his big wings come up over the horizon.
Sounds like your sis has the right idea for a hurricane party. Just came back from Super Fresh and Whole foods, they are out of water. Got mine the other day.
Think I'll watch "Some Like It Hot" with Tony Curtis and Jack lemon.
Julie,
No to evacuating??? Sending prayers your way if you decide to stay.
