We are hoping to expand our family through adoption but we need your help. More than 10% of adoption matches happen through the efforts of adoptive parents networking with family, friends, and acquaintances. We are asking you to forward this to all of your contacts to help our efforts. Perhaps you don't know of anyone personally who has a child to adopt, but we believe that by networking, we are opening up more channels of communication and opportunities for possible birth parents to find us. We would be so grateful if you could take a moment to forward this email to everyone you know. This connection could come from anywhere and we're so lucky to have all of you to help!
For those of you that have a little more free time and wish to help further: - Feel free to get creative and share this with organizations, professional contacts, doctors, churches, community bulletin boards, colleges, even salons! - If you know someone who has very recently adopted they may have been in contact with more than one birthmother. We would love it if they would call on our behalf and pass our information on. - If you are an adoptive parent and have open communication with your child's birthmother, we would love for you to pass our information on in case of another unplanned pregnancy. - If anyone is living in another state or will be visiting another state in the near future, we would love to mail you some of our printed profiles should you know of good places to leave them.
Birthmothers can learn about us by visiting our website - www.MikeandAlisonAdopt.com We can be reached at our toll free number - 1-888-547-2080 Our email address is [email protected]
Thank you for your support, we appreciate your help and ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

since testing is so poor, and lyme may be transmitted sexually and thru the blood supply and many have Bb and do not know they have it...there is no guarantee an adopted baby will not have it
dr J in ct will consult with your ob
if mom takes abx during preg baby will not have Bb

Thanks very much for the info. My llmd said you have to be fully treated before getting pregnant so you don't pass the co infections which can be a lot worse than the lyme. My son is already 3 and I want the kids to be somewhat close in age! Also, the studies on lyme and pregnancy are mostly just with lyme and mostly just with amox which I'm allergic to. I appreciate your opinion very much but we are set on adopting.

Congratulations on your decision! That is wonderful. I will probably do the same when I'm ready to start a family (not for 5-10 more years).

First...adoption is great. So good for you if that is your decision.
Second...Dr. B says in his guidelines (page 21)
"LYME DISEASE AND PREGNANCY It is well known that B. burgdorferi can cross the placenta and infect the fetus. In addition, breast milk from infected mothers has been shown to harbor spirochetes that can be detected by PCR and grown in culture. The Lyme Disease Foundation in Hartford, CT had kept a pregnancy registry for eleven years beginning in the late 1980s. The found that if patients were maintained on adequate doses of antibiotic therapy during gestation, then no babies were born with Lyme. My own experience over the last twenty years agrees with this. The options for treating the mother include oral, intramuscular, and intravenous therapy as outlined above. It is vital that peak and trough antibiotic levels be measured if possible at the start of gestation and at least once more during treatment."
This is consistent with Dr. J's experience and with the experience of others on this site. Your chances of passing it along are very small if you get adequate treatment (2 drugs.)

Thanks so much for the support! I know it's a lot to ask but I'm hoping that people will pass my information on to as many contacts as possible!
