I've been struggling with *something* since puberty. Now, 23, I have quaint little terms like "death mode" and "attack day".
Doctors never know what to tell me.. but recently I've started seeing a woman who looks and sounds an awful lot like a "Helga". So, we'll call her Helga. Well, Helga wants to help, she has a true desire to do what she can to help me get better - without throwing addictive medicine at me...
So, with Helga's help, here's what we know:
Two days ago, I went in for a blood test. It was the first day feeling functional after a month and a half STRAIGHT of 'death mode'. My white blood cell count came back extremely low and she called me, asking that I go back to the lab for more tests.
I did. Today. Feeling like total, complete POOP. I show up, hands over my face to block the sun, wanting to stab everyone in sight, get my blood drawn by the hottest lezzy I've ever seen.. noms. Anyhow, (I'm married.. to a dude. Quit cringing) wbc count came back 100% normal.
She was baffled and then mentioned some of the other labs had come back.. Thyroid in hyper drive and High Liver enzymes.
Typical. Thyroid comes back off and they say: Aye! There's the rub!
And I'll tell ya why... my thyroid loves to play yo-yo. AND if it was always hyper, I would be a skinny little brat. But I'm not. I'm 5'6" and 137 lbs. She claimed that sometimes people eat too much and it makes them fat even if their thyroid is hyper. Hmm... well, the migraines cause nausea and vomiting. Sometimes I can only eat certain things and not very much of it - all leading up to: I do not eat that damn much!
I've also had a low grade fever every day since I started checking it a month and a half ago. She said "Maybe you just had mono.."
Then WHY, oh why.. do these attacks come in cycles. Sometimes, I feel pretty ok... And sometimes it's time for Death Mode and dissociation powers of monumental proportions.
Re-cap:
-wbc count jumping up and down. -high level of liver enzymes (and the liver actually hurts.. ??) -hyperthyroidism (she wants to treat this as the problem. I'd call it a symptom) -low grade fever -natural low body temp (96.7 - 97.6)
Additional:
-High resting heart rate (w/low blood pressure): 107 bpm is what it was today - after I'd been lying still on a bed in dim lighting for 20 minutes. Almost fell asleep.. and that is the reading that came up for heart rate o.O -RLS -Intense vomit inducing migraines -Intense shooting joint pains -Swelling of legs during attack times -'The shakes' like old ladies in their flippin 90s get. Can't hold my head still, just sits there and shakes. -INTENSE all over body pain, finding its epicenter mid core. -Fatigue. I'm always tired and love to sleep and dream. Why? Dreaming is the only life I live without pain.
I'm posting on a Lyme forum because that's what I always keep wandering back to. If you've read this far (thanks a billion!), be honest with me.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here? If so, do you have any suggestions (and good links to follow)?
I'm all eyes!
I need this to stop.

What about getting a Lyme test through the IGeneX lab - www.igenex.com, 1-800-832-3200. You can do the IgM and IgG Western blot antibody tests. They can send you a free testkit. 75% off testing if you qualify for low income - then go through the www.lymetap.org program.

That very possibly could be Lyme. It could be something else also, but there's no reason why you shouldn't examine Lyme as a possibility.

Ehrlichiosis can cause a low WBC. I also vote for Igenex. Test #188 and 189, plus the ehrlichiosis test.

I bet that treating the thyroid would help you feel better.
Lyme does something that disrupts the HPA axis (hypothalamus - pituitary - adrenal). The endocrine glands go out of whack, causing lots of problems.
Systemic enzymes brought my migraines down to a much lower level. They reduce the body pain too, which I realized when I stopped them and it came back.

Carol, I agree completely..... however, my body likes to be interesting. Hyper thyroid sometimes. Hypo sometimes. Normal sometimes.
That being the case, there's no *here-ya-go* fix. Doctors want to medicate for whichever result comes up that particular week on that particular blood test.
But next week, the answer may be different.
*sigh*
So frustrating. I just want to be healthy :'(

i think you need to rule out lyme...igenex test and a good llmd telling you you dont have it...
never heard of the up and down thyroid but nothing would surprised me

Caris, your body sounds like mine! I'm 5'5" and down to 100 lbs this week, but my thyroid tests usually come back "hypo" although they do bounce like yours too. All my tests bounce back and forth.
I told my doc one time that maybe during my autopsy they would figure out what was wrong with me and he said "I doubt even then they will figure you out", ummm, thanks.
I think he just does bloodwork now to see what surprises will pop up!
Good luck on your journey, 30 years later and I am finally, hopefully on the right track. I have my first LLMD appointment a week from Tuesday.
