Thank goodness it's back on!!! I've been worrying about those without power in all that snow!! I have that fear every winter because we get at least one ice storm per year.
Do you have a lot of neighbors/friends without power?

yes there are still hundreds of thousands without power in the tristate area. the next town over from me is still completely blacked out. Hopefully they will be back on tommorrow. This is a really insane situation up here!!

That really nice of you to offer, lymeboy! We were without power for about 24 hours & it was pretty bad. We had to stay in the kitchen with the oven on. I never saw a storm like that in October!
I wish I was still down south but I came back up here in August... First Irene, the earthquake, & now this. We had no useable water after Irene for about 10 days. I think not having electricity is worse than not having clean water.

Ours was only out for 24 hrs too, but some folks around there are still many without. Harsh!

It is a horrible feeling to be without power for so long but here is something to think about.
My oldest son has a wife and 5 children and he hasn't seen any of them since the storm and probably won't for another several days.
He is out all over NE and often further away - bringing back your power.
He is always at the top of the list to go out in storms, ice, wind, rain and freezing conditions, cutting limbs and going up in the bucket for all of us for years now.
After Irene he was in NJ for quite awhile and is on call 24/7 as storms are his specialty.
So... if you see a huge white bucket truck that is not your local utility, tip your head in thanks as they are far away from home. Even if it is your local utility - if they all decided to stay home we'd all still be sitting in the dark.

I agree, Nana! Those guys are the BEST!! We have a friend who does the same thing. He has seen some horrible destruction of all kinds. The tornado damages are probably the worst.... where the bark is stripped off trees and grass uprooted from the ground.....not to mention all the rest.
My hats are off to those guys! They come from states far and near.

Tomorrow will be Day 7. I'm at a Red Cross Shelter right now getting a little internet access, some water, and we had some pizza and salad. I think I'll puke if I see another MRE (though they do come with M & Ms and we like those!)
It's hard, we live 1/2 mile off the road on 26 wooded acres. It's a disaster. I've never seen anything like this in my life. There are untouched trees and lines down and hanging all over the roads. People are out of power all over CT and MA. They think we MAY have it back by Monday morning if we are lucky.
We are cold, can't cook, it's dark, and extremely boring. You can't buy gas anywhere or find a store open. It's starting to get a little better with a couple stores and gas stations opening a little closer. It was so great to get to eat pizza and salad tonight at the high school where they are hosting dinner every night, but it's a half hour drive and I don't always feel up to it. Last night we ate at church which was nice too, but it was very painful to sit up through the service for me.
I miss being able to connect with my friends. I'm feeling very isolated. No access to news, anything going on in the world, even here at the shelter I can only access certain webpages, no Facebook so I can't really catch up with all my network of supports.
So that's the deal. It's cold!!! And dark, and lonely, and we are living off candy and cookies and crap. We can't cook and the MREs turn your stomach after a couple days.
But, it could be worse. We will survive, that's for sure. The first day we were completely trapped by downed trees all up and down our driveway and a foot of snow. My husband frantically cut with the chainsaw until the driveway was clear in case anything happened and I needed to go to the hospital. I was so worried he was going to get hurt or overdo it as he is sick himself.

Yes, California is available for all those who are tired of Weather! Tonite it rained, but it's doable compared to what you're going through. Just don't mind a few shakes from time to time...

Tracy...good to hear from you. The computer is such a helpful distraction to lyme, I can't imagine being without it and connecting to others with lyme who understand.
And the food. That can't be good either. I know i need to be very careful of what I eat or my health gets worse.
Hopefully you are not that way.
I finally did catch something on the TV. They said it was a first in history for your area to be hit with 3 big things like this in a row.
Again, I thought...she needs to write a book.
This is just one chapter in your life. Good chapters are to come. Hang in there.

Trying to think of meals that I eat ...as i rarely have a hot meal.
But, I toast the GF bread for the tuna fish or egg salad.
Caregiver makes the egg or tuna fish salad for me.
Need heat to boil the eggs so that is out.
I put the salad on mixed greens.
usually yogurt for breakfast. Wondering how you are keeping food cold but guessing with the cold temps it might now be a problem as long as you have an ice chest.
I usually open a can of soap and pour it in a glass. Rarely do I heat it up. Brain and body can't usually do the extra steps to do that.
I have creme of celery and tomatoe soup.
I also eat a can of veggie chili cold. I just need things that take very few steps to do so I will have the strength to eat it.
Ok brain is going on.
Ah yes. apples with almond butter...easy meal there.
