I remember reading somewhere (not here) there is a company that collects health information, etc.

much like the credit bureaus. This article is an interesting read (IMO)

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/money/consumer-protection/big-brother-is-watching/overview/index.htm

3. Your health history

The MIB consumer file database is maintained by the MIB Group, a consortium of 470 U.S. and

Canadian companies that sell life, health, disability income, critical illness, and long-term-care insurance. Two other companies

Milliman and Ingenix, compile your prescription drug history from databases maintained by pharmacy chains and prescription benefit

managers, and sell IntelliScript and MedPoint reports to insurers.

I am VERY curious to see what's in my file and think I'm going to request a copy!

Your rights:

The reports fall under the FCRA protections. To get a free copy of your reports, call MIB at 866-692-6901; IntelliScript at 877-211-4816; and MedPoint at 888-206-0335.

THanks for posting this!!! This is truly alarming. I am shocked and dismayed to say the least. The pharmacies selling all our rx records to these companies??!! And this is available to anyone who buys it? How is this legal?

It's bad enough that our ss #, our credit card #s, our date of birth, address, driver's license #, etc., etc. are all available to any employer, landlord, common thief, etc. But our medical/pharmacy records, too?? This is an outrage.

I'm following up on this and asking for all my records. If I can ever get around to it, I want to protest this. It's beyond belief. This stuff never ends. The pharmacies make so much money off us to begin with. To then sell our private medical info is beyond belief. The same goes for the health insurance co's. When are people going to wake up and rise up against this $#@?? It seems that their is absolutely nothing about us that is not for sale---several times over (making money on selling us the drugs at inflated prices, and then selling our records to these co's to boot).

So is this really true---the part that anyone can get a list of our rx's, and that the pharmacies sell the info??!!! If so, this is horrifying.

Yes, this is true.... I don't know about "anyone" i.e. your neighbor or and just any individual; but

There is probably a fee or companies may subscribe to such services....

Similar to how a landlord can have access to, and run a credit check on a potential tenant..

I haven't called for my records yet, but plan on doing so..

And Texas recently passed a law related to the collection of prescriptions. They say it has to do with abuse of pain meds and doctor shopping. Seems to me there is room for abuse of this law too.

OMG, this is really, really scary!! There is NO mention of patient privacy, that's for darned sure.

And what about the patients with chronic, intractable pain, who are not abusers, but may well be caught up in the mess, along with the few doctors who are willing to treat them??

And what about all the other rx's that have nothing to do with opiods that will be there for the various entities to see and do what they want with the info that should not be theirs to see?? It's beyond belief.

With the new national health care, nothing will be private. Every time you see a new doctor they will know what meds you've been taking, etc.

They will have access to all of it.

So if you're wanting more pain meds for example, they will know you're already on them.

Want to double up your doxy when you get bit and can't find a dr smart enough to give you enough? No way you'll be able to head to the walk in clinic for more.

I am SO afraid of the blasted electronic records!!! So are the LLMD's, of course. For now, they don't HAVE to do it. But does it become mandatory soon? I think so. Arrrrgh, what the blazes are we going to do??

Lyme, too, about the doxy dosage issue, it sounds like vet meds, if it comes to that (I think they don't require an rx to purchase online). Sad.

This article says:

"It should be noted that the proposed penalty in 2015 is of 1% and this is likely to increase incrementally, up to 5% in the forthcoming years. Most of the penalties will be levied in the form of reduced Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements."

So, any doctor who doesn't take medicare and medicaid patients will be unaffected, it sounds like.
