Hi <<<<< Lyme Family >>>>>,

Its time to test TxCoord's kidneys and, check the Aneurysm patch, again.

Off we go in a few minutes, don't like the traffic in SLC [three and a half hours away],but we are praying for safe travels and good news.

We'll be back in a couple days or so. Critter Sitter is checking in on the dogs, and neighbors usually watch too.

Will report back as soon as we can! [Smile]

Jus' Silverwolfi and TxCoord too

Hi there <<<<< Lymetoo, randibear, aperture, DKat, Dogsandcats, and others keeping up with our situation >>>>>,

Update: Good News [Smile] , and a fantastic Special Dedication Ceremony in a wild and woolly windstorm this a.m.

First, Thank you for each one sending prayers and safe travel wishes!!! We are home, tired from the winds and blowing snow, but safe, and delighted from TxCoords good news!!!

TxCoords good news: his creatinine/or creatin? [sp./]levels are falling!!! The CT showed his kidneys are doing well!!!

And the Aneurysm area is healing very well, the patching is holding. Soooo...he doesn't need another -CT contrast dye scan- w/ 6 hour IV after [a protection for kidneys]...for one year !!!

If the one year goes well, it goes to non- contrast CT scan which is only maybe an hour, and then we can come home that day.

Now, we were very privileged to stay in the brand new Fisher House on the /SLC VA Medical Center/Hospital Campus.

The couple who started the 'Fisher houses' made a huge profit on Wall street, and wanted to give back, they have passed away, but the relatives keep the foundation going.

There are now 58 Fisher Houses, if TxC' needs to have more surgery and ends up needing to stay from three days on up to -??- I and another family member or two can stay at the Home.

And a Fisher house, is a home, there are stocked refrigerators in the Kitchen, Dining room, a Library, a TV room, a nice laundry room and sleeping quarters for several families.

They brought in a design and decor group to keep it homelike. One can cook, read, go on the patio in good weather etc.

All who stay there participate, in clean-up,tho' they do make concession for disabilities.

We could sit in the kitchen, dining rooms,or common areas, and visit. It is such a sense of camaraderie and fellowship.

If one is the spouse or family member of a Vet, who is ill or injured, or of a returned wounded/ill soldier...it is such a wonderful atmosphere.

This morning was the dedication ceremony. It was held in a huge tent,w/over two hundred in attendance.

Including the Mother of LCpl Chance Phelps the fallen Marine soldier on whose life and death, whom the Movie :Taking Chance was based.SLC-VA Fisher Home is named For Chance Phelps.

Utah's Governor was there, as well as Montel Williams ,a Fisher House Foundation Trustee and a former Marine [yes we shook his hand, a very gracious gentleman]and many others.

Then after a quick luncheon, we did our paperwork [ checking what was there,in your room, what was needed for the home etc.] turned in our Security badges/keys and headed home the 3 and a half hours.

During the Ceremony,we all thought this huge gigantic tent was going to come down on us, and the drive home was windy and snowy too.

It was snowing and blowing Tuesday but we were in the Hospital for TxCoords tests. And only had to dodge the snows from the car to Fisher house.

We were so glad to arrive Monday afternoon, before the storms hit. And glad that today Wednesday, it didn't get any worse than it had.

We have more appointments coming up, but the good news so far,and knowing that if we must be in town three days or more, for Medical test/procedures for TxC' we now have a place to stay!!! [Smile] .

Well that was our good news and wonderful adventure!!! We are so relieved to be home safely!

Thanks again for prayers and well wished for us!!! jus Silverwolfi and TxCoord too!!!

Hi <<<<< jimmy1 >>>>>,

We were so relieved that TxC's test results came back so well. I tried to tell one of our new friends staying at the Fisher house and burst into tears [they take that in stride LOL [Smile] ] !!!

There are more tests and appointments coming up but we are trying to get the scheduling in April. The 3 and 1/2 hours down [and 3 and 1/2 back], lots of heavy traffic, is very wearying for us both.

Because the housing need is so great for families of Vets/and Soldiers, from here on out one must stay for the three day minimum.

So if a test/or appointment is shorter, say one to four hours and nothing scheduled for the next day, one goes back home,or to a motel [ an expenditure we cannot really afford].

If possible we will now have appointments scheduled for more than one thing and within a couple days.

Sometimes this is difficult as say Rheumatology clinics might only meet on Tue. and Thur. And they can only fit you in on Tuesday afternoon.

Then Breathing function [can't think of term] and C-PAP machine testing might meet on a Friday.

We've had to make the eight hour round trip a number of times twice in the same week. So any time we can get things done in the same day,and then go home to rest for several weeks is a blessing.

Since early 2010, we've had to go down at least once a month, sometimes twice. So a month where we don't need to travel...

for TxC's medical , and where he starts feeling better, is a blessing ! And very often things get confused as to appointments, hardship/travel-pay and so on...

[[example: there is another Vet, w/ the same last name and last four digit ID as ours [multi-number], we constantly have to make sure they have the right person ID'd .

Okay ,he is TxCoord, and this other person is say Stu' Shoreleave ,it gets interesting.

They do try to be absolutely positive, to avoid serious mistakes, especially with surgeries and so on, ones info' will be verified up to four times at least.]].

The SLC-VA Medical-Center/Hospital Services four States, and part of a fifth. They are also the Go To for anything serious in Cardiology care, for the Military in the USA.

One of the VA Hospital Centers back east does Kidney issues, such as transplants for USA Military, and so on.

Well,I better post this before it gets longer, can you tell we are elated with our Good News!!!

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo >>>>>,

We are so delighted, and the prayers and good wishes here on LymeNet have made a a difference [Smile] !!!

The Fisher home is beautiful!!! So much work goes into these homes, and there are 58 across the USA now.

We'll still have to -eight hour round trip it- more than we'd wish, but for any more surgeries that may come up,

or long medical procedures, and after appointments we'd now have a place to stay [ for financial purposes, one needs to stay a three day minimum]!!!

Things got a little hectic, because the weather was horrible, maintainance and the tent set-up folk had their hands full.

Huge tent, think cream color Big-Top type ,high winds, but everyone made it thru. After a brief tour of the Fisher home,

...they hustled off the dignitaries, some had a long drive ahead [ such as up into Wyoming]. others probably had delayed flights.

I know we are pretty weary, but so relieved that the aneurysm area and TxC's kidneys are behaving, and healing!!!

I'm off to get some breakfast so BBL!

Welcome back Silverwolfi!

So glad to hear the good report about TxCoord!

I'm also glad that they are taking care of our vets. My elderly dad lives in a Veteran's Center in Central Ky and it is immaculate.

We hear so much about sub-par veteran's facilities, etc. It's nice to hear that TxCoord, other veteran's and family members have a nice place to stay when they have to go out-of-town for extended medical issues/tests.

Hi there <<<<< aperture >>>>> ,

We are delighted as to the Good report!!! [Smile]

And it is so nice now to have some place both nice safe to stay if there are more surgeries needed, and when he has long extended medical tests!!

There have sadly, been some sub-par facilities, we heard of one last fall. But VA is trying very hard to resolve such problems!

It is good that your father has a safe, clean, environment to stay in and get the help and hope he needs as he ages further.

We'll be talking to our Vet rep this afternoon, the office is a couple miles from us, at one of the state vets homes. They keep the place very nicely.

TxC' was up,to the Local State Vet home, a few weeks back to participate in a USO show for our aging vets, and some younger folk who are in physical rehab.

We are working this morning on trying to get appointments that we can manage more easily for time and distance situation etc.

You see we do not have a Veterans Hospital here, and our local clinic is very limited. If it is more than a simple blood test,or EKG, the SE Idaho vets must go to SLC Utah.

Wearying for folks recovering from illnesses and injury/surgeries and so on.

We have a couple more coming up,and we are attempting to find out if we can get them sequentially spaced, someway.

As I mentioned above, sometimes you can't get a Tuesday appointment for Rheumatology, and a Wednesday Pulmonary [finally found the word]clinic in the same week.

If it becomes possible, then we and others who travel several hours would have Fisher House if it isn't already full to bursting.

The Salt Lake City VA Medical Center is servicing close to 50,000 Veterans over the five States, Some days it is incredibly crowded.

But we hope to have a chance to use the home again, for some of the extended medical testing next year. And praying TxCoord doesn't have to have another surgery.

If it comes another to surgery, we'll be on the phone trying to get Fisher house booking for me.

We are so relieved that the Kidney situation is calming down, and his aneurysm repair is holding!!!

For now it appears that we have two appointments in April on some other medical matters. They'll probably be a couple weeks apart, just same day.

It is such a relief that TxC' is finally starting to have some good test results tho'!!!

Well I'm off for now, we have to get ready for some errands, then we can come back home and rest, for the weekend. And stay out of the stormy weather.

I'll check in later, I'm tired but happy about his tests,And next week we get to check on some medical things for me !!

Jus' Silverwolfi

Hey there <<<<< Dogsandcats >>>>>,

TxC' told me to rest awhile,he has gone to do the errands.

We are so relieved to be home and with good news !!! And I'll feel better in a couple hours when I know he is back home safe, this storm is sort of odd.

It is a good sign tho' that he is wanting to take on the errands alone for a bit.Even with some of the other ongoing medical issues, it shows me that our gracious God is reaching out to my Hubby w/more healing!!! [Smile]

The Phelps Fisher house is so beautiful, a real treasure, for so many. To often in an emergency there just isn't any place to go,

...now there is a safe, beautiful place to go for Vets/Soldiers families.

AS I said,we believe that the prayers, hopes and wishes extended to us here at LymeNet are making a huge differnce. A wonderful LymeNet family, and a God who is Awesome and great!!!

Hi <<<<< poppy >>>>>,

Thank You for finding and posting the link !!!

These Homes are so very important, Travel and finding somewhere to stay is costly.

The Fisher Houses are free to Vets/Soldiers and their families while undergoing surgeries, medical tests and so on. A huge huge help!

And being around others that understand how we feel is a wonderful help!!!

Again, we appreciate that link!

I also had a visit with my Veteran Rep and refiled for 10% increase in VA disability (bringing it to 30%) as my PA issued me meds for "neuropathy r/leg".

We'll see how long that takes. If they do give it to us, there will be back pay to Feb 2011 but don't know how much it would be.

Hi <<<<< aperture >>>>>,

We appreciate the prayer! And are hopeful, the finances are so needed, especially now!

Thank you!!! [Smile]

Right now, we are in the process of trying to get it so that we can do several appointments in the same three or four days [not always easy w/ SLC VA medical center serving almost 50,000 Vets].

Otherwise, its down for an appointment, and then back home, and then down and then back etc. [round trip it's about eight hours, makes 10 to 12 hr days w/ the appointments,or sometimes longer].

Just need to say too, that LymeNet,is both a source of helpful info' and a great source of support and encouragment. [Smile] And we are grateful !!!

Silverwolfi wanderin' about.
