OMG!!! he's determined to take this trip for two weeks. it involves flying adn all.

i am absolutely scared witless to do this. he has a point. we're not getting any younger and it's on our "bucket list".

it would be fun and all. the train, etc.

but 2 weeks. i keep going "what if, what if"...but at least it's in the states -- alaska.

should i go or just stay home and suffer? he said "well you can be sick here or be sick on the boat, take your choice, and they have hospitals in anchorage too".

i don't know guys, i'm scared. but i can't live my life waiting to die either..

what would you do? go or stay home???

Do what you WANT to do. Plan for enjoyment, whatever your decision. Enjoyment is good.

Then arrange whatever support measures are needed to help that work the best (or those that will help you if the situation or your health turns out to be less than ideal).

If fear is the only road-block I say hit the road. If it's wisdom, listen and accommodate.

Does it have to be for two weeks? Maybe you guys could shorten it a little.

You could do the part(s) you wanted (or are able to do) and let him do the rest. You could either go back home, or stay somewhere and meet back up with him.

If you plan to just not do everything along the way and rest in your cabin when others go off on a side excursion, you may have the endurance to do the whole trip, just not out and front all the time.

We just did a three day cruise and it took my daughter about three days for her head to feel normal again.

Make sure you buy some sea-bands or get those little sticky things that go behind your ears.

I think it sounds fun, if you feel up to it. You can always rest when you need to. Just don't make yourself feel guilty if you don't get to see and do everything.

As long as you have a place to rest if you don't feel up to doing everything, then it might be a really fun trip.

"well you can be sick here or be sick on the boat, take your choice, and they have hospitals in anchorage too".

True.

I would want to go.

Make sure you get extra rest. Have fun!

Alaska is supposed to be extraordinarily beautiful. Everyone I know that have taken similar sounding trips have absolutely loved it.

I've worried like you before every major trip I was talked into taking. It's stressful getting ready, but once on the way, I relax and my senses take over with all the new sights.

It helps take my mind off me.

If you were going to a big city, I'd be more hesitant, but there's something about Alaska that is very healing.

WOW!! How cool!! I would love to do that trip!

Chance of a lifetime.

If you think you can do it at all go for it!!!

The train ride would go through beautiful places,And probably mountains and moose and all kinds of things you can't normally see.

Randibear....I have not been able to read what others wrote...but I have seen others travel and most of the time do better than when they are at home.

I do know they allow for some down time. But, if a train/plane is moving your body for you it will be more do able.

Looking forward to pics of Alaska.

i know it seems like i do better actually on vacation. don't know why.

the last time i took a cruise for about a week or so and i felt great. we went to jamaica and while i didn't take any real heavy tours, i was able to walk around, do shopping and have fun.

i was a little sore but not much. i slept good too.

Randi, if you feel better away from your home, you might want to check your house for mold.
Or........check your urine for mycotoxin poisoning.

When we went on a trip like this one, several people packed a separate suitcase for the cruise and sent it ahead of time.

That wat they didnt have to cart around clothes that were for a different stop.

If I had the chance, I would go in a heartbeat.

I will stow away in Kams suitcase while she stows away in yours.

Before long we will have the whole train FULL of lymies,,,all to ourself.

OR I can be Rosie's personal attendant.

Maybe we can mine a little gold while we are there too. Either the Klondike or Bering sea gold rush shows from TV

Cruising was always our favorite form of vacation before I was sick.

Obviously at the phase when I was bedridden and couldn't move my body, we went no where, but as I started SEMI functioning, we have taken some cruises.

The first big one we took was actually two weeks through South America. There were days I was 'ok', and others when I slept the whole day and was dead to the world.

BUT through it all and when looking back, I am so very very glad that I did it. You are right... you can stay home and feel sick and miserable and for whatever reason, I think that the change of scenery is good for us.

Last year we did a cruise through Turkey, Israel and some of the Greek Islands. Yes, I seem to get that anxiety in my chest as the trip comes closer and my biggest fear is the plane rides getting there.

I do try to bring my arsonol of herbs and meds to combat any symptom I may have while I'm away, but the good thing is that it makes us feel like we are TRYING to "live" again even if only in short segments.

We did much of what you are discussing with Alaska before my illness and it was a great trip. My vote is to go and enjoy the moments you can and get lots of rest when you have down time. It's beautiful country. Enjoy!

Cathy
