Hey folks. After being a member here for about a decade, I was all of a sudden unable to post, and received a message when I tried to login saying "your IP address has been banned." I tried to email the site advisors over and over asking what happened, and no one ever replied to me. So this went on for like 1 1/2 years it seems.

In the meantime, I almost took my life last summer, but I couldn't post or ask for help. Tonight, on a whim, while my family slumbers, I tried one more time to login, and low and behold, I got logged in. So I'm taking this opportunity since I might get booted out in the morning when I try to login in again, to write to the flash discussion and ask what is going on, why am I being banned, and why all of a sudden today am I able to post.

I live in Switzerland, but I also purchased an IP address from the U.S. so I can view netflix from Switzerland and aol radio and such. Sometimes I login and I'm on my U.S. IP address, and sometimes I login from my Swiss IP address, but I visit the U.S. all the time and used to post from the hotel room, so I don't see that having two IP addresses to my username would be a problem.

Who knows if I'll be able to post in the morning. It is past midnight here, but for this one moment, I was able to login.

After 10 years of needing lymenet, I don't see it stopping anytime soon since I'm only getting sicker.

Hope I can speak with you all tomorrow. I'm going to bed for now.

Wishing you all wellness,
Mary in Switzerland

You were not banned on purpose, Mary. I'm sure of it.

I think we had a list of about 50 people the other day who were "banned" but shouldn't have been. It's been happening a LOT for the past year.

Could be that the webmaster found the problem with your IP address.

To anyone who gets banned, please contact Jenifer. If you don't get help in a few days, contact Sixgoofykids, Dogsandcats or ME. We will make sure you get back on.

Also... the site is currently having problems, so many of us have been unable to get on here. Seems that Medical is the worst. Can't get in.

WELCOME BACK, MARY!! [Smile]

PS to everyone ..

If you are banned because of something you did, you will be notified by LouB. You will KNOW why you got banned.

This notification may not apply to those who have been banned and try to get back on with another name, however.

Please be patient with us - we all are volunteers!

That includes all the wonderful people who help behind the scenes with our website.

I know when I worked, back in the days of the wholly mammoth, there were glitches here and there with websites. It happens....

So - hang in there !!

We are all God's children doing the best we can !!

I was one of the 50 lymetoo. It was a wonderful feeling to be able to login again. It felt like I'd lost my best friend(s) and the word "banned" made me wonder. I wracked my brain for what I might have said.

I suspected it might be because I had a new IP,

I did email Jenifer a couple of times and understand that volunteers are busy. No response from webmaster either.

Tried guessing at emailing you but it bounced back.

I do appreciate the work of all volunteers.

So glad you're all here!!!

So glad to see you again, Marz!!!!

Even the webmaster is volunteering his time. We are so grateful to have him. He and LouB and Jenifer are all very busy people.

The moderators have very limited "powers".. we simply pass along to the above volunteers to help us out. We are your liaison.

If you get "banned" contact someone who can PM one of us. We will help you. It's good to have someone on here who has your phone number or email!!!

O.K. So here is the thing, I know no one's private email address to email and ask why I am banned. I could only email the address that flashnet suggested, which I did again last night and got a message this morning saying undeliverable.

So how does one ask for help? I don't know.

but I'm so happy to be back. It is true, I felt like a long, deep relationship had ended and I had no flotation devices. Last summer was the darkest of my life, even darker than the one I buried my third daughter.

My husband and my lyme docs in the U.S. pulled me through, and the knowledge that I could not abandon my three living daughters kept me from doing that dirty deed and finishing myself off.

But I'm on the cusp of another episode and my body is just rejecting every medication for TBD's I try. I'm trying herbals, but they are just not strong enough, and I've upped my psyche meds to keep going.

I have a few dear friends here, and my one daughter that was so lost to us is back home to live for a year and save money and get better (lyme disease of course). So that is a big positive on my horizon. I have her back in my life.

God help us. I ask myself why me a lot lately, but I guess it had to be me for some reason.

I took a copy editor job here for a new magazine in the city. We are all volunteering our work until we have enough subscriptions to get paid. I hope I can see this work through as it feels good to employ my training.

I know you all know what I mean!!!!!

O.K. Enough about me, but it has been a long time. So good to be in touch with all of you and thank you all for your volunteerism for all of us.

.....

O.K. Just tried to post this and got the message that my I.P. address is banned from this forum....I'm currently logged into my American I.P. address so I can listen to radio.com. I'll try my Swiss I.P. address. This shouldn't be happening just because I'm on my U.S. I.P. address.

Mary, you have 3 posts here. I wonder if you got banned due to a virus on your computer? I'm not saying you have one, I'm just speculating here.

Lymewreck, my husband has two IP addresses and he tried to log on as a guest last night and it said he was banned. Maybe it has something to do with the IP addresses? I don't really know. I wish I knew more about computers.

Something is happening on the server with posts timing out. This is happening to me now and then. Might be, someone thought the post didn't go and hit submit a couple of times trying to get it to post.

I am a webmaster and have run a few forums, but I use vbulletin.

One that I started and subsequently donated to a California Ferret nonproffit organization is lovingferrets.com. I set that up and designed it. I hope they are taking good care of it. lol

I have to say there are some issues with either this software or the server. Anything I can do to help, I'd be glad to. I do have my own server and would be willing to let a vbulletin license go to this worthy cause.

sounds like the 2 ip addys may be the culprit here.

Many were banned long ago when people would call them selves multiple names and be one person.

That is specifically prohibited because it caused alot of problems as I recall

Sorry to hear your problems,,,ask if this is the prob.,,,,KEEP a moderator on speed dial with their e-mail in your system and backed up with paper trail.

Believe me when I say we all have problems from time to time,,,no shame on asking for help once in a while.

Hey don!! I didn't sign up for that part!! Glad to help everyone here, but I'm not handing out my email address.

We are accessible thru the "report a post" or the link where it has our names.

The problem with using the "report a post" is that you have to be able to login to use it.

By the "link where it has our names", do you mean the PM symbol in a post? Or is this somewhere else?

Hopefully, this won't happen again, since I think it was the change in IP number in my case, but just in case...for the future...

And just wondering if we use webmaster contact, if we'd put BANNED in the subject line, could volunteers make a point to scan, looking for these. I realize the number of emails are huge, but might they scan for these?

If these came to the moderators, we would see them quickly no matter what the subject line. I think the admins are relying on us to take care of most things here, so don't check as often and we do not receive these particular notifications, so we can't answer them.

If you have ever reposted a post, you have at least one of our email addresses ... maybe put it in your address book to save for later.

Hi Everyone,

We were experiencing some serious problems between 7/17 >>> 7/19 and again 7/23 >>> 7/25. The problems were due to attacks originating from several IP addresses in Germany (we completely blocked all IP address range assigned to that ISP in our firewall) and some other technical issues which were also resolved.

Please ignore any unusual things experienced during this period (banned and Hack Attempt Logged messages, errors, slow response, etc). The issues that caused this and the underlying problems have been resolved.

The LymeNet Flash has been operating normally with no reported problems since 7/26/2012.

Take care,

Hey hey Lou! How do you do? Good to see your smiling face!

[Big Grin]

Lymewreck,

So sorry you've been though so much and that happened! If you have problems again and can't reach anyone, I offer my email address to you below. If you lose it, just click on any of the state sites listed in my signature and you can find me in the Contact Us section.

I'd be happy to pass along a request for help for you anytime.

Of course you know tutu, dogs and cats and GOOFY with 6 normal kids. And you know unless I have chocolate to bribe them they often ignore me. So if you contact me, promise them chocolate in the note you write! OK?

[lol]

Hope you are feeling better soon! I really do!
