Hi everyone...I have a kind of superficial question but its been on my mind for a bit. As anyone who has read a few posts by me knows by now, I have lost a tremendous amount of weight. I have mainly been wearing clothes that are kind of cute but cheap lol because I didn't want to spend a lot of money with what I hoped was a temporary weight diminishment.
However I have recently been lucky enough to come into some money through an inheritance and through working my bony butt off as an editor and I am debating whether to spend a fair amount of money to get myself a new wardrobe that will make me feel attractive despite my emaciated state. The most important thing is my health and not what I look like, but I can't help but think it might make me feel better about myself to make the most of what I look like now, even being so frail.
I have been kind of struggling with a feeling of low self worth over being sick and embarrassment over my obvious illness, and I think this might also help me to feel less ashamed or something. Is this a waste of time and money and energy, or a worthwhile project? My best friend is all for this, she thinks it will help a lot, but I was wondering what everyone else thinks. Thanks. Jess.

Well, JMO, you could get a few new pieces of clothes- but you might have to shop in the girls department!
I wouldn't spend a lot, tho-
How about a foot massage? I'd love that right now!

I wouldn't spend a lot either .. but buy at least 4-5 nice outfits. You're going to GAIN, remember!!
I'm in need of smaller clothes too, but keep thinking I'm going to gain!! So far, most of my clothes look "OK".. at least they're not hanging off of me. (I have at least 3-4 different sizes hanging in my closet!)
Let me know if you find a place online with small sizes. HAPPY SHOPPING!!

Chastain -
I'm in the same boat. And I have avoided buying much in the way of smaller clothes, because I keep HOPING I'll gain the weight back. But if I am honest with myself, over two years have passed since I settled in from a healthy size 8, to what really should be a size 4. (Some size 6 pants that I own hang off my butt, which looks pathetic.) Most of my old jeans will sneak down to my hips, even with a belt! So I can't really wear them outside, or I'd be tripping over the hems.
If I HAD the option - hell yeah! I'd buy some things, and start feeling like a woman again. But you surely don't need to spend a grand - just get some good quality basic pieces. The holiday sales will be coming up, and it sounds like YOU should be first on your list!
I like separates that can mix and match, so you get a lot of looks out of them. Also, if you get a couple of jumpers (a-line or empire dresses without a waistline), these will still work if/when you begin to gain weight again.
If there's an outlet mall within easy driving distance, by all means DO IT! You can get some wonderful buys at these places. Have fun! And feel better about yourself, while you are getting better.

I'd buy new clothes too! Bohemian styles always looks very feminine on my daughter who is very tiny too...the fabric and styles seem to flow and give a person a more gentle/curved look...less boney IMHO...but most of all...have fun!

Hi everyone..thanks for the replies! Surprise, I have been shopping in the girls department for a lot of my cheaper clothes. Luckily CT is full of dieting women lol and in the designer shops I can fit in some size zeros...also, a foot massage is always great but thats what my ex boyfriend is for ....
Aunty, I think you are right..I think I will just feel more like a woman and better about myself again if I pick up some really cute and classy stuff. When I gain my weight back I can always donate them.
Momindeep, the boho style is SUCH a great idea!! I have started to look to bony women lately as fashion icons haha to make me feel less odd, and Rachel Zoe for example always wears the boho look and she is bone thin and it makes her look curvier. Thats a great suggestion! Thanks. Jess.

You're 31! You should feel stylish and good about yourself. I wouldn't break the bank, but a few great items can change your whole attitude. Prioritize what you'd like and estimate a budget. Spend some, save some.... it's a win-win situation!
If it were me (it's not, so I'll live vicariously through you)... this is what would be on my list!
A pair (or 2) of designer jeans (these all come in size 0) A new pair of high boots A few fun tops A long sweater coat or jacket (these go with everything!) A fun necklace or two Some new Under Armour for comfy clothes And if I had the budget... a long down winter coat. WARM!

FamilyFive-I LOVE your suggestions!! I LOVEEE jeans and yes the Calvin Klein size zeros fit me really well...My best friend says I am the Kate Moss of CT LOL... I am excited to do this actually...I think it will make me feel better.
I went through a phase of feeling really unattractive because I am so thin but I am gonna buy and wear some cute clothes and feel better about myself .
Thanks so much. Jess.

Haven't read all the responses, but I would just buy 2 or 3 medium priced outfits and wait awhile before buying an entire wardrobe.
My sister loves to shop at Goodwill. She finds some really nice suits and dress clothes at unbelievable prices. Unfortunately they never have anything that fits me.
Feeling good about yourself is important but that is about a lot more than just clothes.

I agree with Bea. Buy a few medium priced outfits for the time being.
And Like FamilyFive says: "You're 31! You should feel stylish and good about yourself."
OK, since we're going to live vicariously through you, here are MY picks:
-HEELS!
-Boots with HEELS! (can you tell I can't wear heels anymore?)
-A short sequined or sparkly dress for the holidays
-Black velvet skinny jeans
-A dressy top in silver or gold or both
-A red Pashmina scarf
-Costume CZ jewelry
You don't have to break the bank for this stuff. Shop TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Kohl's, outlets, and yes, Goodwill stores too.
So don't keep us all guessing about your picks and pix! And don't hesitate to ask for advice/suggestions. Apparently there's a lot of that here!! It's all in good fun, which we all need. Plus I'm waiting to see what you actually purchase. No pressure or anything Posts: 1885 | From here | Registered: Jul 2012
