Myself and my two children have Lyme and co's. We've been in treatment for 2.5 yrs. We have a good LLMD and are doing better, but still a long way to go. My daughter, 10 yrs old, would really like to find another kid, about her age, who has Lyme and "gets it". She has sympathetic friends, but they can't really get it unless they've lived it. My daughter often feels lousy, has attention and memory issues, doesn't like crowds and noise and needs lots of down time and sleep. This excludes her from most of the tween social scene. She's tired of feeling different but looking "normal". School is a struggle and she misses a lot of it. She's tired of the diet restrictions-we follow a strict GFCF, no soy, candida diet. She's sick of being sick and wants to vent to a kid. Anyone up for trying an email pen pal for her and their child? Monitored by the parents, of course [Wink] I also have a 7yr old son who might like the same:-)

Healing thoughts to you,

L.

I have a 12 year old boy who has had lyme since he was 4, diagnosed 10 months ago.

He loves to online chat. I'll check with him in the morning and send you a PM.

My daughter is 10 years old also and has had lyme since she was 2 years old. My husband has also been diagnosed last year and I wouldn't be surprised if both my son and I may have it also. My daughter has been having pains in her back ankles and knees and she does get tired a lot. I believe lyme has affected her memory also but school just thinks she needs longer time to process info. I think she may like to have a pen pal to talk to also.

what a good mom you are to look for online buddies for your child

i raised 4 with lyme...the youngest is now 27...they are all doing well.

i tell parents struggling with this about my kids so they know the kids can be ok...just keep fighting for them

For teens the Southeast Pennsylvania Lyme Disease Association has this on their website- near bottom of the home page.

Lymeteens private email discussion group for teens
with Lyme and tick-borne diseases.

We believe teens need to have the opportunity to discuss their experiences and feelings in a private Email discussion group. There are now over 100 members in this group nationwide. Members will be carefully screened for appropriateness.

Here is more info on how it works...
