No kidding, no offense to Martha's Vineyard, which looks incredible, but I couldn't go there.
I read at MV you just actually walk into the Dr's and say 'I got bit by a tick' and they hand over the Doxy it's so bad.
HBO last weekend had a new Larry David movie on called Clear History,
and the movie/ filming took place on Martha's Vineyard. He made a quick reference to Lyme Disease (said he got it taking in a friends lost dog one night)

It's the same with all the other tourist destinations on the east coast, which are all beautiful places, but epidemic for TBD.
Oddly enough, people who live there, travel there, docs who practice there, are keenly aware of chronic lyme.
How can SO MANY know this, yet it's existence is still being denied?

Is there something we're missing? Something everyone else knows, but we don't?
I break out in a cold sweat just thinking about ticks.
Now with this Bart...almost every insect is giving me the heebie jeebies.
You could put me at MV for 5 minutes-I'd come away with 30 ticks...how on earth do people HOLIDAY there and not get grossed out by all the ticks? Yech!

The answer is to go in late November! We went for my husband's birthday last year. Some ticks were probably still active, but we didn't see any. The prices were lower too. But the island was still stunningly beautiful.

Which previous Prez had Lyme? My husband was wondering if Hillary Clinton's recent fall and head injury was a cover story. Chappaqua is also tick central. You can't be a presidential candidate with a controversial chronic illness.

so tutu...its cheaper than hawaii tho-huh?
no matter who it is...politics aside...i cant help but worry about the kids.
when brad and angelina took their kids to LI it bothered me...while they worked in the city so the kids could have a lot of "trees and country" to play in
cappequa is bad...and they had a lab for awhile there
the bushes had eye problems too...more than the one dx with lyme
i live on east coast and when i have my shoes sprayed with pyrethrins and my dog has neem on i dont see ticks.
i know i may be killing fish and setting myself up for neuro stuff...but you gotta do something

I think I read somewhere that the deer tick goes dormant around August and September. It is molting and going into its next phase where it reappears as an adult tick in October. (Larvae reappear as nymphs in October)
Don't know if this same time is safe from dog ticks and lone star ticks.
But it probably depends on where you live. Further north there is a shorter summer, so maybe ticks have a different cycle?
What about the south?
Anyone read this about the cycle of ticks and the times when they go dormant before entering a new phase?

Rivendell, I have read that ticks survive wintertime, even up north. They can survive under the snow. They've been found in Christmas trees.
I would not assume that any time of the year is safe. IMO they are a scourge year-round.

I definitely think they are a threat year round down here in the south. The temps don't get that low in the winter. The summer might possibly be better if its a scorcher and very dry. They say they don't deal well with dry weather.
All I know is my hubby and his golf buddies have been pulling deer ticks off of them lately while playing golf. So far none of them have been attached.
