"Doctors told Rachael that it was a staph infection, and took samples from Paul's knee tissue to test for dangerous viruses. The doctor prescribed a heavy dose of antibiotics, and sent them on their way."
IT TURNED OUT TO BE A SNAIL...THIS IS NOT LYME RELATED...but hearing ER stories recently that were lyme related...i just dont get it. how can they be so stupid. they are robots. no ability to think. use their brain. their common sense for crying out loud.
i went thru this too...i got a life threatening infection from a mosquito...well it went in where the bite was...i had been infected by another human.
i was on iv abx and it kept getting bigger. i was kept in hospital. they wouldn't lance it or even take small amount to test.
a nurse put an idea in my mind...i took a shower and scrubbed it...when it oozed i called the nurse..she took a sample...it was tested they knew vanco was the only abx that would get it so they switched me and i got better. eventually. after two surgeries to cut the damage out.
do we really have the best medical system in the world???

What kind of infection did you have?
Do you remember the name of the bacteria?
Just curious.

And while looking at POSITIVE test results for multiple tick-borne diseases, an ID doc can actually tell you it "doesn't mean anything."
I had that experience with a FEW ID docs years ago. I found it pretty unbelievable that I tested positive for so many TBDs through Quest, of all labs, but it just didn't mean anything. Really? REALLY?
So even when you test positive for multiple tick-borne diseases through conventional labs, it means nothing and there is apparently nothing wrong with you, despite symptoms.
So how stupid can they be? Pretty damn stupid and ignorant. And/or just laughing all the way to the bank.

Blows my mind!
How does 'training' (outdated and was NEVER accurate in the first place), override common sense every time?
Some docs are no better in Canada either.
My positive IgM... meant nothing because I should have been positive IgG...
Well, ssoorryy...I guess my immune system didn't get the memo...
It's like not seeing the forest for the trees etc.
Are they brainwashed in med school? How does their common sense turn off like that? Like a switch turning off? Geesh!

Greta, I'd have thought that your IgM + would have been the hole-in-one, so to speak. Go figure.
Book-smart doesn't equal native-intelligence and good old common sense.
Just because someone can memorize a text book does not make him a good doc/scientist. Med schools have been churning out docs who operate like robots for generations.
Those of us who have had the misfortune of dealing with this plague are blessed whenever we encounter a doctor who has an innate ability to think outside the box and who has the courage and spirit to rise above the fray (and the stupidity).
