I have seen others with lyme create their own web site to help with the cost of lyme disease.

It is a site all ready created for such things. You just need to add your page.

I keep thinking I will do this when health allows.

But, I haven't been able to. So, asking for help.

I can't even recall the name of the web page.

Your area community colleges . . . some "geek" clubs around (they can have various names) . . . .

Call the information / volunteer & referral number for your local United Way and see if they have any agencies under their wing who offer computer instruction volunteers.

You say that you " have seen people end their lives after they have created" their websites.

Well, that would be daunting, indeed. Still, it's a small portion of the websites up and out there. Sad, of course, but it does illuminate the complexity and depth of chronic illness, especially when treatment & support is so hard to get.

Poverty and food insecurity is also a consideration for those who couldn't take life anymore. It can't be overlooked. But it can scare all of us who are teetering so being mindful matters - to employ our skill set against the pull.

Also, remember, that for those folks, the website may have been their intentional "good bye" message system of sorts. There way of wrapping it all up.

If you know you are steady enough (as who is always really steady-steady, anyway) then trust yourself.

It big decision, I would think, would be security for now and the future. Once you post anything, it's out there and if someone has picked it up, even if you close your site, you have no control over what's been captured on it.

Also to consider - and this could drive some folks to jump, quite literally, would be any feedback from such a site. That could be crushing. I know I simply would not want to put myself in that position when there are abusers who seem to scour the web and bully those who are vulnerable.

Also, if you post photos, some cameras have a code so that your location can become known to others who know how to do this.

Even a web cam that is not engaged can be hacked into and someone can see you.

This was reported a few weeks ago on a Baby Cam -- a hacker was talking to a little girl, calling her name which he could see on her wall. She was deaf and sleeping but did not hear all that. Her father did, though, and came to the room right away.

All that said, I'm still a child of "The Desiderata" and believe that for all the crumminess of humankind, there is still enormous goodness. A website can be a fabulous way to express yourself and grow in various ways -- and help others in the process if that is the intent.

Along with a web designer to help you find your unique niche, you'd want to have the most brilliant web security minded volunteer to help you set this up.

I'm not sure at all about the security of just putting your site into a cookie cutter set up. You have no way of knowing who's behind that and what kind of access they can have.

Hope you find your volunteer computer guru to guide you on all this. I know there are some out there.

I don't get everything the first time(s) I read through. Looking back over your message, you say:

"to help with the cost of lyme disease"

I'm unclear how a web site could help - or if it's one asking for donations . . . or selling a product . . . or having paid advertisers posting on your information pages.

Is there a sample of this site you might post. I'm not sure I can add any thought but others here might be able to if the method to "help with cost" is clearer.

FWIW, eBay may be something to consider for selling products. It's become my "Goodwill" store for the homebound. Not all bargains there but there are some things that are hard to find and usually for a fair price for buyer and for the seller to make a fair profit.

I've only bought (it all goes through PayPal, very easy). Were I to have excess items, I would consider selling. Some seem to scour flea markets and then move their haul to eBay to resell.

You can ship right from home if you have a printer to print USPS labels. You can post an item for auction or a "buy it now" feature.

The web site has all ready been created. It is a place for those who are trying to raise funds for treatment to add their name and info.

But, I can't recall the name of the web site.

I will probably run across it again.

When I usually see it, my brain is in too much of a fog to do what is needed to add my page.

I'll get back to this thread once I run across the url address again.

I have a recollection of something similar to what you're describing - people join the site and say what it is they need and others can donate to whatever site they wish to help. Is that what you're talking about?

Are you talking about the crowd funding sites?

The sites that I know are indiegogo.com and Fundrazr.com and Gogetfunding.com

I've used indiegogo personally to fund a short film I was producing-it was easy to use.

Good luck!

Thanks for those! I was trying to remember the names of them too. I think there is another that kam has mentioned.
