Well...I am looking for a little inspiration. Has anyone regained their ability to read pretty lengthy, and deep text?

I struggle just trying to read my email. My 4 year olds childrens books can trip me up time-to-time even! I don't even take a chance with the newspaper anymore...

So has anyone regained their ability to read and remember what they read? I can only dream of being able to read a fat old mystery novel these days.

So please..please...share your story. How bad was your reading, and where are you now...

Please no debbie-downers. [Smile]

I never totally lost the ability to read-but it was so stressful-and not enjoyable cuz i couldnt keep characters straight i was reading kids books instead

With treatment i do read a lot more and harder text

Once i awhile i even find lyme texts and studies easy...but with me it comes and goes

I ws 15 yrs undiagnosed...3 yrs high dose oral abx tx...then maintenance-buhner-more abx from new llmd....all in all over 30 yrs fighting bugs and what they did to me

I count my blessings-reading is one-i like my kindle cuz it doesnt

I can read again! I am an avid reader and couldn't read for about one and a half years. I so missed it. I am now reading a couple of books a week. My memory isn't great but I can enjoy books while I'm reading them.

You will get there!

Yes, oh my am I ever glad. It was horrible for about 2 yrs and that's been gosh 10 yrs ago.

I don't know what I would do at 10pm when my husbands snoring in the bedroom and the TV is turned off for the night?

Holding books used to be rough on the hands, but a Kindle reader has now spoiled me. I've got some real books to read and they are backing up, including Dr H hardback book.

It looks to heavy to even pick up. I should have bought his book for my Kindle. Oh well, I'm going to take it to a lyme friend Thurs at our support meeting.

Twin, now there is still some evenings especially if I have a lot on my mind, like feeling not so good, that I find myself having a hard time really comprehending. I don't get frustrated by that any more. I just flip back and reread and try to get focused again.

You will get back to book reading again. Patience and detox. detox and more detox

Pam

Hey Lymetoo!

Can you elaborate? [Smile] How bad were ya, and how long did it take you to recover? Are you in full remission now, or still treating?

Thanks! [Smile]

Yes, me too. I was an avid reader (several books per week). When I became ill, friends gave me books, of course. I remember trying so hard, reading one page over and over. About 1.5 years into treatment, my capacity began to slowly increase.

Back to my usual habits now, and quite grateful.

Yes, I did.
In the depths of the disease (or more accurately, the recovery), I couldn't read any more than newspaper headlines or a supermarket sign.

I've been in remission for over 7 years now & can read novels, research articles.. even technical literature (electronics)
just as well as I did before.

There IS hope.
