Does anyone have knowledge or experience with using an infrared sauna to help with Lyme symptoms/arthritis? Is there a certain quality that's needed? Are home-based ones effective? Also, what's the difference between infrared and others, i.e. a sauna that uses heat rocks?

Infrared heat goes deeper than a heated rocks sauna.
Well, it works! It helps me reduce chemical sensitivity - I sweated out for 6 months and then suddenly became less sensitive to chemicals and smells like smoking, bleach, perfume, etc.
And even if you're nor dealing with chem sensitivity, it's still a way to get rid of toxins. Our skin is our largest detox place.
I currently use a portable tent, with head sticking out. It has a slight odor so I store it in the closet with an air purifier there.
After you break a sweat, for me around a half hour, you stay in another 5 or 10 minutes, then shower off warm and cold. I also take a small scoop of Takesumi activated charcoal to aid with internal bile flow, also part of detoxing.
It doesn't do anything for my joint symptoms. For that, I take capsules of turmeric powder that I get at the health food store.

My husband has the Therasage portable sauna, and likes it a lot. His LLMD told him FIR saunas are more effective at detoxification than regular saunas.
I am currently in the first couple months of treatment for Chronic Lyme, looking into using a sauna for detox purposes. I am also taking bentonite to help with detoxing, maybe similar to Takesumi(?)
I think my medication is working but it seems there are toxins remaining, causing additional/increased pain. I'm also hoping it would help with joint pain. (I'm taking curcumin/turmeric but haven't noticed a difference... )

I don't know the name - it was given to me. It's a light grey portable tent sauna that lists on ebay or Amazon for just under $200, looks like. In my case, it was just as well that it was a used one, because I would not have handled the outgassing. As it is, it gets stored on the closet.
Yes, bentonite is good for detoxing, and so is Takesumi activated charcoal.

Hi kmarie.
I love my IR sauna. Helps so much with sore muscles and tendons.
Had it before my lyme dx. Was in so much pain, didn't know why, but sauna helped.
I sit in front of the heatrs when it's warming up. Heat seems to go right to the sore spots. The IR penetrates tissue better than convectional heat. Also it doesn't heat my room up. Out of all the gadgets it is my favorite.
