Get the facts on Lyme disease - from treatment trends to how it's affecting lives - at this free forum. Doctor H., author and noted Lyme disease expert and Dr. Richard Ostfeld, a disease ecologist from Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies will discuss all the information you need to know. Investigative reporter Mary Beth Pfeiffer, whose landmark reporting drove new laws to help patients in New York, will moderate.

To shed light on the prevention and treatment of Lyme disease, the Poughkeepsie Journal is hosting a free public forum, “Get the Facts: Lyme Disease.”
You can watch the forum at PoughkeepsieJournal.com with a live stream beginning at 6:30 p.m. Video will be available later on demand.
The forum, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelly Goletti Theatre in the Student Center at Marist College will be your chance to get answers and learn strategies to improve your health. Registration for the forum is closed and there will be no walk-ups. Only registered guests will be admitted.
Dr. H, author and noted Lyme Disease expert, and Richard Ostfeld, a disease ecologist at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, will answer questions and discuss information you need to know. Journal investigative reporter Mary Beth Pfeiffer, whose landmark investigation into Lyme Disease inspired a law to help patients in New York, will moderate the forum.

Richard S. Ostfeld is senior scientist at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, a not-for-profit research institution in Millbrook dedicated to providing the science behind environmental solutions. He is also adjunct professor at Rutgers University and the University of Connecticut.
Dr H is a board certified internist in private practice in Hyde Park. He is director of the Hudson Valley Healing Arts Center, an integrative medical center which combines classical and complementary approaches in the treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne disorders.

Marist College Hosts Open Lyme Forum Poughkeepsie Journal investigative reporter Mary Beth Pfeiffer, whose landmark reporting drove new laws to help patients in New York, will moderate a public Lyme forum at Marist College with Dr. Richard Horowitz and Dr. Rick Osfteld on Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
This forum will discuss recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and other chronic illness, including implications of the recent studies on Lyme persisters.

Despite advances in treatment and a greater understanding of how ticks behave, the challenges of treating and limiting the spread of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases remain profound.
That was the picture that emerged Wednesday, both at a local forum and in a new, national study.
Two experts outlined the challenges faced in treating patients and controlling ticks at a forum hosted by the Poughkeepsie Journal at Marist College. Among the challenges is understanding how Lyme and other diseases interact with other forms of infection. Political influence over policy and not enough government funding for research also are challenges, the experts said. And a study published Wednesday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found there has been substantial geographic expansion of counties at high risk of Lyme disease. . . .
