Interesting to read these couple of short studies from 1945 forward (see how aluminum and peanut oil mixed with penicillin was used to treat ACA Lyme, thrice weekly).

And the reports are quite accuracte too- until we get to where Steere jumps in and takes credit for its discovery- when it was really a concerned mother who discovered it.

Then Steere calls it a virus, recommends no treatment be given, and it goes downhill from there.

Lyme arthritis was labeled a "virus" by Bumsteere.

Hosp Pract. 1978 Apr;13(4):143-58.
Lyme arthritis: a new clinical entity.

Steere AC, Hardin JA, Malawista SE.

Named for the Connecticut town where the first identified cases occurred in 1972, this disorder has since been found elsewhere and may be caused by a virus transmitted by ticks.

Attacks are often preceded by erythema chronicum migrans and are seldom prolonged, though they may recur.

Symptomatic treatment only is advised, except in the rare instances of severe neurologic complications or myocardial conduction abnormality.

And this indicates we've been involved in this modern day version of Lyme for 40 years now.

JAMA. 1976 Nov 22;236(21):2392.
Erythema chronicum migrans and "lyme arthritis".

Thanks for sharing. Happy Anniversary...

Incredible that Borrelia bacteria has been around so long and still so many in medical community remain ignorant. A bacteria with that much evolution on it's side... I mean older than we are... and we only have about 40 years of 'research' on our side... can be quite depressing...
