If mine gets any more stimulated, feels like I'll be joining the International Space Station crew but more often, I just wind up kissing the ground (syncope sounds like such a lovely word until I came to know the true meaning).

Cool graphic there.

Interesting link. Some more practical, natural ways to activate this nerve instead of getting an expensive stimulator installed inside ur body.

Of course the gems of info are in the comment section beneath.

The vagal nerve is amazing. As long as it's properly working, of course.

Lymetwist didn't mention the vagus nerve specifically but he popped in here about a yr ago to say he was better because of a surgery that put a shunt in the top rightish side of his head.

I think he had some buildup of fluid creating pressure in that area. As soon as he relieved that, his neuro & physical lyme symptoms vanished.

I couldn't help but think that his stitches were exactly where the vagus nerve originates in the top of the skull on the back, right-ish side.

Acupuncturists try to stick it.

So the nerve starts there, then continues down through the brainstem then gets much larger when the body opens up below the neck.

I think part of it sorta hides near or behind the heart & can cause what seems like heart problems if you're born with it out of place or if it's just irritated.

It can impact every bodily function & all vital systems in the body.

The vagal nerve is crucial for digestion & if that's disrupted then all bets are off & basically every health issue you can imagine can be on the table.

For instance, I've read vagal nerve dysfunction can cause endometriosis in women & prostate issues in men. Also, all types of cancer & tumors.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/263740124_If_you_have_an_active_vagus_nerve_cancer_stage_may_no_longer_be_important

So it's good to have a very active vagus nerve.

Anyway, I couldn't help but think that Lymetwist's surgery may have done just enough to stop whatever was irritating the vagus nerve at it's origin in the brain.

His body then recovered. Or who knows, maybe I'm completely off base here.

Either way, his story a good lesson in perseverance & being open minded enough to think a little outside the box & try new things.

I also remember he had positive tests for lyme & babs but that became irrelevant when he focused on addressing another issue.

Who knows, maybe you can hum, talk, & gargle your way to health if u can get that vagal nerve back to work.

Interesting stuff TuTu. So weird how we're on the same wave length. Few nights ago found some meditative stuff on YouTube and did some OMing. Had no idea about the connection with the vagus nerve. Will start doing the cold water thing pronto!

Great info!

LymeToo,
Considering your interest in Mast Cell Activation Disorder/Syndrome (MCAD/S), I know you will be interested in learning about these supplements which are specific for vagus nerve support, which were created by a medical professional who suffered from the problem herself.

https://vagusnervesupport.com/

Here's a link to her two websites, which explain the theory behind her methods, which took her over a decade to develop.
http://prettyill.com/the_driscoll_theory
http://www.potscare.com/

Believe it or not, the Driscoll Theory ties into MCAD/S and into histamine intolerance, but you'll have to do a whole lot of reading and study in order to be able to recognize all of the connections.

I've been studying it almost full time for most of this last month, and I still have trouble explaining it concisely to anyone.

The good news about The Driscoll Theory is that it has been recognized (and accepted, I think) by one of the leading groups of allergists, the AAAAI. That's how I first found out about it was from an article and a link to it on an AAAAI webpage.

BTW, she does not profit from this product. She stated somewhere (forgotten where) that she didn't want her judgment about the product influenced by the profit motive so it is sold on Amazon instead of being sold through a private company.

My guess is that sales from these VNS products probably help to fund her POTS and MCAD research though, but that's quite different from using the money to enrich her own pockets.

I would first have to find out about the salicylates in the product before I would consider it. Thanks.
