Western medicine is great if you have a select few conditions.
All the people with diabetes and heart disease (especially coronary artery disease) get all the attention. Automatic yearly cholesterol screens, low-fat diets, statins, etc.
I think in fourth grade I learned about what not to eat, why, even learned what the coronary arteries were, and what clogged arteries look like and result in.
I didn't even hear about lyme disease but maybe once in twenty years, and not once in an endemic area for four years.
WTF?
If you walk into a regular doctor's office as a new patient, you're not even leaving until blood sugar and cholesterol have been looked at.
But then lyme disease, forget it. I even remember a few years ago telling a primary care doctor at the Cleveland Clinic that I just felt really sick. He just stared at the computer, typing notes, and sent me on my way. That's just screwed up on so many levels.
I also HATE when doctors say: "Well, TYPICALLY......" Are you kidding me? It is not TYPICAL to be in the doctor's office in the first place. If you are there, something is wrong!

Agree! The amount of support provided to patients with diabetes and heart conditions is astounding. Everything form diabetes educators to nutritional counseling to cardiac rehab. All covered by insurance.
I'm glad for those patients, but the difference between than and Lyme treatment is like the difference between a first world and third world country.
