my husband kept saying "I want got (game of thrones)...I want got". so I bought the entire six season blue ray. it's a tv show on hbo.

well of course he opened it right away.

did you know each season has 10 episodes???

omg...I'm sick of it. he watches at least 5 hours or more every day.

I didn't know what is was, honest. basically porn. really, from a church believer, I went " oh crap, oh crap..."

I go in the bedroom. can't stand to even listen. nothing is sacred, nothing. incest, murder, prostitution, extreme xrated violence.

never in my life.

so be aware of what you are really buying. I don't even want it in the house, seriously.

I guess I'm a prude but whew....give me cooking, home repair and cartoons any day.

No wonder my atheist "friend" loves this show.

I didn't know it was that bad. So gross.

Thank you for warning me!!!

My IVIG nurse friend keeps getting me to watch it. She even gave me her HBO Go account # so that I could watch!

For some reason I've never been interested despite the years of hype. Now I know why. Not what I want to watch. I want a real show with a STORY.

I was the same way. I kept hearing about it from this acquaintance on FB, but it never interested me.

Now I know why.

It's interesting at first and then it truly pulls you down into hell. By the time you get a couple seasons in you walk away feeling depressed and sick.

I finally realized that this show, which aired on Sunday nights, was the most depressing way I could imagine to go bed facing a workweek.

believe jordana and me, it's bad, really bad.

I won't even describe some of it.

I jus didn't know cause I hadn't seen or heard about it.

so if somebody says "oh you gotta watch this", I'd really wonder about what they thought of me. seriously....

It's not what they thought of YOU, randi. It's what they thought of themselves. For some reason, they "liked" it.

That's ironic considering Game of Thrones has one of the most complex and interesting stories on television right now. If you're offended by anything sexual than I can see why you might be turned off by it, but the author of the books has always said that it's supposed to portray reality.

Sure there might be an unnecessary amount of nudity in the show, but those scenes all have significance towards the story. I can't stand when someone dismisses something soley because it has nudity, bad language, or violence in it.

And Lymetoo, all of those things have nothing to do with being an atheist. Don't be ridiculous.

hey, if rape, murder, incest, gore, full frontal nudity, and all is essential to tell a story, then in my opinion, there's a problem.

I like alot of movies but I refuse to watch porn. maybe it says something about society when they dismiss a person because they find all of this unacceptable.

obviously, what appeals to you, most assuredly, does not appeal to me.

I still watch charlie brown christmas, so there's no hope for conversion. wwjd.....

I don't think it's any better of an idea to generalize atheists than it is to generalize believers.

Quite the opposite, actually. Most atheists are very ethical people who hold high the virtues of kindness and consideration of humankind. For example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanism

Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively,

and affirms their ability to improve their lives through the use of reason and ingenuity as opposed to submitting blindly to tradition and authority or sinking into cruelty and brutality. . . .

As to the initial post you say " can't stand to even listen"

. . . a good solution for so many couples: headphones for the person watching what others don't want to hear . . . the perfect solution.

A extension media cord can run from the back of the TV to headphones . . . or from a stereo unit if that is set up for the sound.

There are cordless ones, too. And in the ear pods (usually never good to use but for courtesy and to be kind to others who don't want to hear, that can be a solution for when lying down).

it's not only the sounds. it's visual. hard to miss when you're reading and this is on a 75 inch blu ray.

so I leave the room.

Glad to hear it's not so much the loud sound, then. Still, if he would wear headphones, it might make it much easier for you.

Even as you are not likely to get into it, It might be of help to learn enough plot to put the characters into the time of events . . . and other context. It's all about the storytelling & character depth / motivation - & stresses of the time.

And, as the genre seems not your favorite - or even close - and you may not want to even spend time on figure out the complex context, maybe you could find something equally as compelling to you.

Doctor Who? Maybe start your own Cirque du Soleil living room experience and bring in some new friends for fun? Start a Mariachi band?

Take up bagpipes . . . Tap Dancing? Something has to be more fun for you to explore.

The CONTRAST on the screen might be adjusted so as not to be quite so distracting?

And while sound is not as much at issue for you as I first interpreted, the sound can be adjusted, too, if some aspects of that are too much. Maybe too much bass or sharpness? Surround can be turned on or off, usually.

Game of Thrones is based on an excellent book series.

HBO added all the sex to spice it up. It's unfortunate that the original story gets obfuscated for ratings.

Some of the characters survive against horrible odds. It's about making the best out of a terrible situation.

Unfortunately, it's REALLY gross some of the stuff thrown in for TV. The story is very disturbing, but I honestly find other stuff on TV way more disturbing than Game of Thrones.

Not much wholesomeness out there these days in TV land, unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure violence and foul language isn't reserved for atheists.

Being a "square" has nothing to do with religious belief or lack thereof.

Some people do t like horror movies or any kind of violenc. That's personal preference.

I read all the fame of thrones books, and it is excellent storytelling. That's why people love it. It's violent, because life in the Middle Ages WAS violent.

I don't like some of the gratuitous sex in it, but that's HBO. I think a lot of what they added into the story did not add anything of value.

HBO shows just might not be your thing. Maybe lifetime movies and the OWN network? [Smile]

I've been watching the Vikings on history channel, it can be pretty violent too, but it's tv so they have to be tame.
