Lyme Disease: An Even Bigger Threat Than You Think
QUOTE- "In 2016, Fair Health, a nonprofit organization that oversees the nation’s largest collection of health-care claims data, examined 23 billion records for more than 150 million privately insured individuals and documented 747,101 claims for Lyme disease.
North Carolina reported 32 Lyme cases to the CDC in 2016 but in the same year made 88,539 health-care claims for a Lyme diagnosis.
California reported 90 cases to the CDC but had 46,820 claims.
Texas reported 31 cases to the CDC but had 31,129 claims. All three are considered low-incidence states."

Part of the blame goes to LLMD's and other doctors for not reporting. I know the year I was diagnosed my state had no reported cases, which meant my LLMD did not report it. That was in 2004.
Doesn't sound like much has changed.

Conspiracy doesn't even cover the whole synopsis of Lyme Disease.
It's at epidemic proportions but still goes unreported on TV.
What gets me, is when it's mentioned on TV, the treatment is never discussed. No mention of biofilms, persister cells, or the newest studies that have surfaced.
They remark about longterm treatment with antbiotics, but no one ever mentions the full extent of using 2-3 antibiotics at a time or even taking antibiotics for 3-4 years.
I hope for the best in the people in this world, but what's coming next for Lyme is so scary.
I think better treatment has surfaced and we've learned more, but so has the disease with evolution of the bacteria with coinfections and persister cells.
It's shouldn't take 6-7 years to reach remission with this infection. This wasn't how it was back in the 80s.
There better be some progress with this stupid little tick group that's going on... We should be well past the point of discussion on this disease, but it seems we're still at the drawing board.

Most LLMDs aren't gonna go to the full extent of reporting cases, they're already breaking federal law by treating longterm. Some states it's legal at the "state level," but very few.
LLMDs know that the less attention that is brought to the practice the better. That's the way it's been for a long time!
Most LLMDs won't treat with IV antibiotics because it throws up warning signals to health insurace companies because of the cost, which then gets reported to the medical board.
If I had to take a guess, lyme diangnosis each year should be around a million or more each year for the entire country.

I've been saying for several years it's 1 million in just US every year that is becoming ill with Lyme & Co.
I believe a very high percent of those are turning acute/chronic due to the 10-14 days of doxy rule.
They used to say only about 20% of us turned chronic. It was unknown why that 20% didn't improve.
They, the powers have been, have now because of their ignorance have turned that number around and 80% of folks infected are acute and chronic.
I've lead a Lyme support group in Lousiville Ky, where Lyme doesn't exit for 8 years.
So I've seen and heard first hand the truth. That's where I get these numbers.....down in the trenches of Kentucky where we don't have Lyme Disease.

TC, you did it again. Came to the rescue and earned a big hug!
I will check back in when I have read the whole thing. WSJ hasn't always been as open to considering our dilemma.

Just checking in for a second. Thanks Ann OH!
Good to see people are paying attention and discussing it too!
Map- good work! I believe you are right with your estimates too.
Makes me sick to see that 20% figure!
They aren't figuring in all the misdiagnosed people either.
