I went to the pool today, got in the water some, but mostly just laid in the sun. It is 88 here today again.
I took another dose of Antabuse yesterday and so far so good. If depression comes around again I will simply try to deal with it.
It's been about a month and a half for me taking this drug, maybe a little more, but I am noticing that my herxes are getting less severe. I might try taking the drug every other day now or increasing the dose and staying with twice a week.
I am not going to give up on this drug. I am tired of just living with this illness and getting by, it is me or the bugs now.
Last night I had a neighbor of mine drop me at a Publix Grocery Store and after buying some yogurt I needed for having with my morning oatmeal, I walked back to my apartment, which is about 3.7 miles away. I knew how far it was and that was the plan with getting dropped there instead of driving myself. No problems with the walk home and my legs are starting to feel alive again.
All of my walking has come at night after the sun has gone down, I don't believe I could walk as much yet if I did it during the heat of the day.
Tonight I am going to walk to the other side of the apartment complex and use the small gym they have here. I have not belonged to a gym since getting sick in 2002, but had routinely belonged to one since college days up until age 38 when I got bit.
I won't do much, maybe just a few reps with the dumbbells or something that doesn't aggravate my shoulder, but even believing that I could walk in a gym again and do anything at all is an absolute miracle for me considering what this illness has done to me.
It's me or this illness, there isn't any turning back now.

Did the church thing .. had PRETTY fog covering the hills (small mountains) this morning. Actually, it was in the valleys. It was gorgeous.
Watching the Houston Texans now. Will barely get any rest before the Astros - Yankees game tonight. LOL. So exhausting to be a fan!
AK .. We need to talk about your food issue. I have some tips for you. PS .. I haven't cooked since then, except to make hubby some pancakes. I used filtered water from my Brita. I filled it with bottled water.

Sunday is my day off from routine exercises so just did my PT. Made pepper steak and brown rice for dinner. It's one of Josh's favorites also made unsweetened tea.
We gabbed after dinner until about 10:30, then Josh and his dog Ada headed home. Even though it's Columbus day tomorrow he has to work sans students.
Hiker way to go on the 22! How's the shoulder feeling with the temp change? That GF chocolate cake sounds so delicious!
NLIF glad to hear that you're ok with the Antabuse so far. Celebrating with you as you continue to get your life back! I'm still amazed and grateful that I can exercise and be active. I'll never forget when at my sickest going from the bed to the couch was a real good day for me.
TuTu enjoy yourself watching the Astros! I'm going to give you a buzz tomorrow. Little worried because my allergist added Doxepin this year and it doesn't seem to be helping with the bouts of anaphylaxis.
Night everyone!

I went to the apartment gym last night and did some easy exercises with the dumbbells for about 10 minutes. If I can ever get back to where I could join a local gym it will be an absolute miracle that 3 or 4 months ago I never thought was possible.
Walked to the pool today, swam a little underwater, and laid in the sun for about two hours. It was 90 today here and felt great.
I stayed up and watched the Astros beat the Yankees last night. Yay!!! Before moving to Florida I had grown up in Baltimore as a kid and am a huge Orioles fan, and being an O's fan means hating the Yankees passionately. Posts: 233 | From ft. myers, florida | Registered: Apr 2004

I am not a Yankees fan, either. My beloved Cubs choked this year.
Did my shoulder exercises and back stretches.
Went to balance therapy for my initial 90 minute evaluation. Lots of head turning and an awful machine where you stand (strapped in) and look at concentric circles with eyes open and eyes closed. I flunked the test where the floor moves with my eyes closed.
So, therapist said we will be working a lot with that blasted machine as my vestibular system needs to catch up with my sight. Walked out of there feeling like I had been on carnival rides which I always hated as a kid.
Have 3 simple exercises to work on until I see her Friday.
Was hoping balance was simply an issue of muscle weakness but I think it is a combination and my brain needs to be retrained.
Went to chiropractor. Back seems to be improving slowly.
NLIF--So great you could walk back from the store.
Off to make some dinner.

The wellness center was closed today so I did my at home PT and arm routine. Started typing up my study notes today and all the sitting irked my SI joint so had to do PT exercises every hour.
TuTu glad your team won! Thanks for chatting with me and sending me that link with the mask! I'm ordering the pink ones!
NLIF miracles do happen! Way to go on the swimming and getting some fresh air and sunshine! Hoping you'll continue to feel better.
Hiker can't believe your balance eval! I got dizzy just reading about it! I honestly don't know how it didn't make you sick! On the bright side I'm glad your back is better.
Well....off to bed! Night everyone!

I have several friends who said they would always root against the Yankees, just because.
The poor Cardinals are just about toast. I was hoping for them to win.
I went to Walmart today to shop a bit for OCC .. overdid it and my hips and back are suffering. Going for traction tomorrow .. haha... before going to church to work on OCC.
We have about 100 boxes to put calendar pics and Bible verses into.
Then there is plenty more work to do after that. Our packing party is Nov. 2 .. always fun!
Hiker .. I'm glad your back is getting better! The new machine sounds a bit like torture .. but maybe it will really help!!
FL ..I would love to swim again .. not that I was ever a swimmer. Chlorine and I don't get along well.

Tutu--I am going to root for the Nationals all the way!
I did my shoulder exercises and the balance exercises.
Also walked 17 minutes.
Am heading to the upholstery shop to pick up the cushions that I took in this morning. New foam going in as they are getting pretty saggy. Much cheaper than a new couch.

Well ... IF we don't go to the Series, I will root for the Nationals too.
We beat the Yankees today .. 4-1 . HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!! My masto friend came to help us at church today, then we had lunch and went home to finish watching the game. (We were watching it at the restaurant too.)
At church we worked about 3 1/2 hours finishing the Bible verses in the boxes, then organized everything else. Got all the clothes organized too.
Found out that we need way more clothing, socks and underwear for the 2-4 age group. Those items are rarely on sale, so it's a lot more expensive.
We have plenty of donated funds, so I may go buy a bunch tomorrow if my back is OK.
OH .. and got traction on my back this morning before I went to church.
Thursday hubby and I will go see VINCE GILL in concert!! Our first time to ever see him! Bucket List!!

Oh my aching rear! I've been at it since about 4:30 this afternoon and am calling it quits before 10:00 p.m. Almost done typing the 3rd course notes but I can't sit a minute longer! Been doing my at home PT for my neck and SI every hour on the hour!
Today I went to the Y and walked a couple of warm up laps and then did my 10 minutes of rowing. After that jumped onto the elliptical for a strenuous 20 minutes and stayed on to cool down for about another 3. Didn't get dizzy again so I reckon I need the cool down period.
TuTu my Dad was a big Cardinals fan being from MO and all. Remember cheering them on back in the day. My brother used to play baseball when he was a teenager and me and Mom sure enjoyed going to all his games. Sure hope you enjoy the concert! Sounds very exciting!
Hiker way to go on the walking and your at home PT! Hope the cushions came out nice. My Mom covered the cushion of our love seat with a blanket. It was getting all bunched up so I removed it. There wasn't a stain or anything on it so God only knows why she covered it!
Well gang...I'm exhausted and sore from studying! That's so depressing! Why can't I say I'm sore from hiking, running, etc...sigh...

AK--You will appreciate your sore rear end when you pass the tests!! Way to go on the studying and the other exercises.
Tutu--I don't listen to much country, but I think I would like a Vince Gill concert.
Did my shoulder exercises and balance exercises and some back stretches.
Did not walk today due to blustery winds. That is one bad part about my area of the country--flat and always windy.
Worked on my Bible study.
Heading to stretch my back and glutes again.

Did my usual at home PT and arm routine then me and Mom went to the wellness center. Mom has bumped up her laps to 4 so the pressure is on! She's trying to get in shape for our trip and I'm doing the same. Me and my 2 left feet danced like crazy at Zumba today.
Didn't get as much typing done today. Josh had car trouble so I went charging to the rescue in my little Scion which he's borrowing until he replaces his Mazda 3. His car is toast due to major rust and needing a master cylinder at the least. So we might be car shopping tomorrow.
Hiker I hope you're right....about the passing tests! The more I study the harder it seems! BTW, how many exercises are you doing now? My arm routine takes just 5 minutes. I need to add some type of core exercises but guess I'll wait until I get back from the trip.
Well it's midnight and guess I need to wind down for now. See everyone tomorrow!

Walked a little over 3 miles last night. Today I went to the pool, it was a gorgeous day here in SW Fl., swam a little and laid in the sun.
Going to the apt. gym again tonight, will probably do some easy exercises for 10 or 15 minutes.
I am now taking the Antabuse every other day, still at 50mg's of an effervescent pill. My herxes are not nearly as strong as they were at the beginning, which is why I increased the frequency of taking the medicine. I will probably increase the dose to 100mg's within a week or two.
Since resuming the drug, I have had some mild periods of depression, but nothing major. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I say this with complete honesty, today might have been the best I have felt in 15 years. I might have given up on this drug 5 or 10 years ago with how bad I felt for the first month or so. Now? I am going to have to be forced at gunpoint for me to stop taking it. I have said it before, but nothing has ever worked like this drug seems to be doing.
AK, miracles do happen, I might just be one of them. We'll see one way or the other as I will be taking this drug until one of us has won, me or the bugs.
I posted in this exercise thread for the first time as an afterthought, now it has turned into one of my major places of support and encouragement. Thank you everyone.

NLIF—I am so happy for you that Antabuse is working. 😀
Your experience gives me hope that I can get well, too. When the time is right I may give it a try.
So thankful God has given you the strength to get through the herxes and depression.
And we are all glad you joined the exercise thread.
AK—I do 12 exercises for my shoulders. Takes me 45 minutes or more and then I ice. Add balance exercises and walking and on a good day it is 90 minutes of exercise. Will be adding more balanced exercises, I am sure.

Wow .. I am still on Cloud9!! the Astros won and Vince Gill was amazing!!!!
ANYONE would love his concert. He actually does a lot of rock in his guitar solos and quite a few of his songs from 30 years ago were more rock than country. I guess it's country rock. I have no clue .. but I like it!!
One of his band members from Australia sang for 30 min to start us off. Good, but all the same .. pretty much folk music. Good voice.
Then there was a 10 min break with nothing. (should have gone to the restroom here but I had already gotten back up at 7:20 for a last minute run) Next time I will know exactly which seats to get!!
We had seats on the front row of the mezzanine. Great seats ..but we were the 3rd and 4th seats in and it was hard to get in and out. (due to my unstable feet, hips, and back)
Anyway, Vince started at 8:05 and played non-stop until 10:45 !!!! His "last song" was at 10:25 then he did TWO encores. His only break was when there were numbers by his band members. He has an awesome female background singer and the other guys can sing too.
So there were 3 numbers by them, but Vince stayed onstage and sang back up and played guitar.
Such talent in that band!!
Oh .. and Mickey Gilley was in the audience. (Vince announced that his good friend MG was there.) We just saw him about 10 days ago.
on a side note... Mickey is 83 yrs old and still performing. He has a great show!!
I was able to check the score on game two or three times. We were ahead each time except for the very beginning because the Yankees scored first.
I am praying we will win tonight and be in the World Series!! Then hiker and I can be on opposing sides! LOL!!
Hiker .. Keep me posted on everything. Thanks for reminding me to do my shoulder exercises. I just got exercises to do so I need to get busy.
Florida .. you are doing GREAT!! Thanks for the support!! I hope the antabuse continues to work well for you.
AK .. being sore from studying is good news!! It means that YOU WERE STUDYING!!
I'm watching last night's game right now. At least I had the sense to record it.

Did shoulder exercises and back stretches along with balance exercises.
Walked 15 minutes.
Went to library and then to get birdseed.
Dermatologist called to tell me the mole on my face that she biopsied is melanoma. See the plastic surgeon for a consult next Wednesday. Not like I needed one more health issue, but God is my rock.
BFF coming over tonight with Chipotle. Then watching Illini volleyball.

Sheesh....took a sleeping pill last night and fell asleep while typing my post....
So, yesterday was a typical day at the Y. Didn't find a car yet for Josh so the search goes on!
Today did my usual home PT for my neck and SI joint then Mom and I went to the wellness center. Had a blast at Zumba.
Once home I totally focused and finished typing up my notes for the 4th and 5th courses that I'm studying. It only took me 6 hours! So now just reading and hi-lighting all my notes until the 31st.
NLIF we'll support you all the way! Thrilled that you're improving and wow, over 3 miles! Wonderful that you're getting your life back!
Hiker I'm sending you an extra big hug! I know that you can deal with this and will give you a buzz tomorrow.
TuTu look at you rubbing elbows with famous folks! That concert sounded amazing! Bet they were packed! Keep me in the baseball loop please. I'm so out of touch with all the studying. Missing our little text group too!
Well...I can't believe it's only 10:36 and I have some time to veg and watch a little TV to wind down. See you all tomorrow!

Chance of frost here tonight. First frost of the season. We picked all the tomatoes that had some color as well as some of the big green ones. Maybe they will ripen.
Have sweet potatoes, potatoes and corn for cornmeal out in the garden yet. We brought in the last of the celery and the few peppers that were on the plants.
Want to get some apples to make some applesauce and some to dry. We did have 2 gallons of dried apples........... they are almost all gone already!

AK .. The Astros lost tonight so the series stands at 3-2 Astros. Game six is Sunday, I think.
Glad you made it to Zumba!
I have a support group meeting tomorrow afternoon. One of the local MCAS doctors will have a presentation. She did one for us two years ago and it was great.

Shoulder exercises, back stretches, and balance exercises accomplished today.
Did one load of laundry.
Cooked a big pot of spaghetti sauce and put most in the freezer.
Watched the Illini football team finally win and upset Wisconsin. I taped the game and my brother texted me that the game was unbelievable but he didn't watch it. Glad he didn't say the outcome before I finished watching.
Tutu--Astros play tonight at 7 CST. Hope the MCAS meeting was good.
Will read tonight and probably watch some Illini volleyball. They play highly ranked MN.

Hi everyone! Did my at home PT then went to the Y this rainy morning. Walked 2 warm up laps then rowed for 10 minutes. From there I jumped on the elliptical and huffed and puffed for 20 minutes and slowed way down for 3 minutes. Walked another 2 laps to cool down and sat in the sauna for a wonderful 15 minutes.
Did some laundry this afternoon and chatted on the phone with some friends.
Manna you are just a gardening machine! Enquiring minds want to know how you dry your corn and apples. Curious how you make your cornmeal to.
TuTu sure wish I could go to your support meeting. BTW, I took one 325 mg aspirin last night and had a significant decrease in bone and muscle pain. Go figure!
Hiker that spaghetti sounds delicious! It's been much cooler and rainy here today and I'm so ready to make some soups and stews.
Well back to my movie, 'Patsy and Loretta'!

Thanks, hiker! That's great about your team upsetting Wisconsin!
AK .. aspirin keeps the prostaglandins lower and that helps the pain. My masto friend just went thru desensitization about 10 days ago. So far, she is doing better.
She had to have 7 epi pens in two days just to survive the desensitization!!
I will text you some informational slides from today's presentation. Maybe something there will help you. The only problem is that you didn't get to hear what the doctor said about the slides.
Watching the Astros now. It's painful, even though we are ahead. It's a bullpen night for both teams and we are already on our 4th pitcher and we are just beginning the 5th inning.
It's scary stuff!! I want us to win TONIGHT!!
