No need to join anything or pay anything. Just click on the link, where you can watch the TV public service announcement if you wish. And then follow though on the very convenient way to send the following letter to your Senators and Representative no matter your political party preference.
Numbers make a difference in getting congress people to respond to supporting re-funding of this important Tick Act. The more people contacting them, the more likely they will support your request.
Here is the letter that will be sent in your name to your congress people:
[quote] On behalf of the Center for Lyme Action and advocates across the country, I respectfully urge you to cosponsor the reauthorization of the Kay Hagan Tick Act (S.2398), a critical piece of bipartisan legislation to continue our nation’s coordinated response to the growing public health threat posed by Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.
As your constituent I know the magnitude of devastation that tick-borne diseases can cause.
Tick-borne diseases now account for over 500,000 new cases of Lyme disease annually, a staggering figure that continues to rise each year.
These illnesses have profound impacts on American families, our health care system, workforce productivity, and our communities.
The original Kay Hagan Tick Act, passed in 2019 with strong bipartisan support, established essential programs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including the National Public Health Strategy to Prevent and Control Vector-Borne Diseases in Humans.
The reauthorization will continue this important work by:
Require HHS to Implement the National Strategy to Prevent and Control Vector-Borne Diseases in People to expand research, improve testing, and coordinate common efforts across the government. The strategy should also be updated as appropriate.
• Reauthorize Regional Centers of Excellence in Vector Borne Disease at $10 million for each of FY2026 - FY2030. These Centers collaborate with academia and public health agencies for surveillance, prevention, outbreak response.
• Reauthorize Grants at $20 million for each of FY2026 - FY2030 to State health departments to continue to bolster their public health infrastructure for Lyme and other tick and vector borne diseases, and expand initiatives through public-private partnerships.
We cannot afford to let these efforts lapse. The threat of Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses is increasing in geographic range and complexity, with emerging threats such as Alpha-gal syndrome and Powassan virus raising serious concerns. The time to act is now.
I urge you to cosponsor and support the reauthorization of the Kay Hagan Tick Act and demonstrate your commitment to public health, scientific innovation, and the well-being of your constituents.
Thank you for your leadership on this issue. If you have any questions or would like to speak further, please do not hesitate to contact Meghan Bradshaw, Government Relations Manager at Center for Lyme Action [email protected]
