OK. It is break time from our travels. We all will be joining Mary Ann (Green Darkness) down by the beach....Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that is.

Her postcard is dated November 5th. She says, "Just sat on the beach today, 80 degrees here."

Sounds great Mary Ann....I can hear the seagulls, smell the sea air, feel the warmth of the sun on my skin...ah life is good.

Oh look...here comes troutscout, Bev, Poochini and Tincup with a picnic basket and ice chest...and who is that with the guitars and firewood?

Keep those cards and notes coming...especially those who may be traveling out of the area for the holidays.

A friend of mine just went to London. She didn't bring me back any post cards...but she did bring back some info that helps history and geography come alive.

She asked a few people about the Revolutionary War while in London.

Their comment was that they only have a few sentences in their history books about it.

They have been to war with so many countries that the Boston Tea Party is no big deal in their eyes.

I find that interesting since we make such a big deal of it here.

She also said that the museums are free there.

And that the mode of transportation is public for the most part.

You know that gap between the sidewalk and whatever it is your are getting off of..the metro etc.....

Well, the saying in London is "mind the gap"

It means watch your step. She said she heard that a lot whil she was over there.

And you could find that saying on T-Shirts and other items in the stores.

So, "mind the gap"

I see that my post regarding a trip to London didn't show up.

I will re-post it later.

I wanted to post the cards I received from sizzle now.

The card is dated Nov. 22nd, but I just received it. This gives a whole new meaning to snail mail. Smile.

The cards are from Massachusettes.

Today's question is: Which state has the oldest university?

OK. Easy one. Massachusettes. Now, what is the name of the oldest university?

The postcards are beautiful black and white cards.

Our first stop is to Tanglewoods. It seats over 5,000 Boston Symphony lovers.

But, if you would rather be seated on the lawn, we can get up to 15,000 music lovers.

Sounds like a great place to be on a warm summer night.

OK. Ready to get outdoors and go for a hike?

Momument Mountain is a favorite place for hikers in Great Barrington.

The Gothic River also looks like a great place to get outdoors.

Mt. Greylock is the tallest mountain in Massachusettes at 3,500 feet.

Time to go indoors and back in time to Music Inn. Louis Armstrong is played there in 1962.

Wow. Would you look at the construction of this round, stone, cow barn in the Shaker village.

It was reconstructed at a cost of a million dollars and is world famous.

I will also cut and paste the new entry here.

Hi All,
Some of you may remember that last year I was feeling blue when it came time to start school and I was not able to return yet.

So, I started collecting post cards to take into the classroom once I do return.

Well, it is summer time now and people are on the road again.

I received post cards from two different people today that were recently traveling.

I thought I would share them with you arm chair travelers.

The first postcard is from England/Wales. It is a picture of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It is a lot different than the aqueduct we know here in California.

This one is built over a river. The bridge is a old stone arched beautiful bridge in itself with lots of birdsnests every few inches.

Instead of the bridge being used to transport cars, it is transporting boats with a walkway for pedestrians.

The boat in the picture looks a little like a small paddle boat I use to have in the bathtub for my kids.

I am not sure where the aqueduct is coming from or going, but it is quite interesting. It is about as high as the bridges on the Columbia Gorge and the river below looks a lot like that river.

The next postcard is from Rocky Mountain National Park with a picture of Taylor Peak. A favorite back country area.

Has anyone been there? I backpacked in the Snowmass area outside of Aspen in the Rockies. I still can recall the hot springs, the aspen groves, the wildflowers, the babbling brook that froze over in the night, etc.

I would love to go back there and do it again.

Poudre Canyon Recreational area looks good too. This is 4 pictures in one. Pictures of people white water rafting, rock climbing, canoeing, and fly fishing.

Well, it is a tough job but somebody has to do it.

The next two postcards will be great for the classroom once I return.

They are pictures of the state capitol in Nebraska. Ok, who knows the name of where the state capitol is in Nebraska?

It is one of the most beautiful buildings of its kind in the country. It was completed in 1932 and is 400 ft tall.

Now, from my favorite era. The next post card is a life size replica of a fur trading station in Nebraska built out of logs from the original trading post in Bellevue.

I thought this would be my favorite era to live until I saw PBS's special. Have you seen the Colonial House or The Pioneer Quest.

I found them both facinating, but decided I really would not want to live during those times afterall.

Thanks for letting me share todays armchair travels with you.

Hugs,

Katherine

I am not sure what is going on. I have posted the latest post cards I have received twice now and I still don't see the post.
