Hi All,
Some of you may remember that last year I was feeling blue when it came time to start school and I was not able to return yet. So, I started collecting post cards to take into the classroom once I do return.
Well, it is summer time now and people are on the road again.
I received post cards from two different people today that were recently traveling.
I thought I would share them with you arm chair travelers.
The first postcard is from England/Wales. It is a picture of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It is a lot different from the aqueduct we know here in California.
This one is built over a river. The bridge is an old stone arched beautiful bridge in itself with lots of birdsnests every few inches.
Instead of the bridge being used to transport cars, it is transporting boats with a walkway for pedestrians.
The boat in the picture looks a little like a small paddle boat I use to have in the bathtub for my kids.
I am not sure where the aqueduct is coming from or going, but it is quite interesting. It is about as high as the bridges on the Columbia Gorge and the river below looks a lot like that river.
The next postcard is from Rocky Mountain National Park with a picture of Taylor Peak. A favorite back country area.
Has anyone been there? I backpacked in the Snowmass area outside of Aspen in the Rockies. I still can recall the hot springs, the aspen groves, the wildflowers, the babbling brook that froze over in the night, etc.
I would love to go back there and do it again.
Poudre Canyon Recreational area looks good too. This is 4 pictures in one. Pictures of people white water rafting, rock climbing, canoeing, and fly fishing.
Well, it is a tough job but somebody has to do it.
The next two postcards will be great for the classroom once I return.
They are pictures of the state capitol in Nebraska. Ok, who knows the name of where the state capitol is in Nebraska?
It is one of the most beautiful buildings of its kind in the country. It was completed in 1932 and is 400 ft tall.
Now, from my favorite era. The next post card is a life size replica of a fur trading station in Nebraska built out of logs from the original trading post in Bellevue.
I thought this would be my favorite era to live until I saw PBS's special. Have you seen the Colonial House or The Pioneer Quest.
I found them both fascinating, but decided I really would not want to live during those times afterall.
Thanks for letting me share todays armchair travels with you.
Hugs,
Katherine
