This article was emailed to me, so I tracked down the source where it was posted. Very interesting even if the source is a socialist website. This event transends politics in my opinion.

Sorry to be negative but why didn't they get a bus out of there before the hurricane hit. They had no reason to stay. I skimmed through thing so if it tells why let me know.

Why were the tourist still there anyway.

Why didn't they look to leave before the hurricane. To be sure if they had the means to travel there they had the means to get out.

Just left more folks to worry about.

When my sisters family was stationed in Biloxi and my mom and I were visiting we had to catch a bus out of there before the hurricane hit because they were not sheltering non residence on the base.

We were there for the birth of my niece due in a week. We left even with the fact that my mom missed the birth of her grandchild.

Katie was born as the eye of the hurricane passed Biloxi. I can't remember which hurricane it was but it was almost 20 years ago.

I'm sorry but I just can't comprehend the ways people are blaming some of the victims for thier death.

(this is not directed at you, SBM, I see this being stated on Fox by various individuals as well and it always seems like a cold form of deflection of fault)

It's like blaming people for living in known endemic areas for Lyme for contracting a severe form of the disease..
why did they stay there if they knew the region was endemic?
Even if they had no idea how bad it would get..
it's their fault for living there.
[dizzy]

Yes, it's different in a way..
byt even tho there was a 'mandatory evacuation', there were little means of evacuation provided, even thos all levels of govt. knew the majority of the population would have no means of their own to leave town, and had to know some would choose not to!
and had to know that residants (without the warnings the admins recieved from the Huricane Service, National Weather Beurau and others)..
could not have possibly known that after 30 years of false warnings, this was going to be
THE BIG ONE.

Many couldn't possibly leave, public evac transportation also halted
Saturday night making it impossible for thousands who wanted to go to get out, Feds sent no other rescue.. and how could anyone think they are informed enough of the circumstances to know the reasons the rest of them made the decision to stay?
IMO even someone with a private helicopter who didn't leave is a victim as much as any other considering the level of disaster here...

There are just too many possible variables and things some folks are not considering as to why someone may have decided to stay, if they were a part of the percentage that actually had a choice.

Then, also..
I hope those who blame victims for not leaving,
who will not consider that they had no idea it was going to be this bad -- Cat 5, levee break..

I hope they are not then turning around and accepting the federal officials who were responsible for emergency rescue operations claims that they never expected it either.
(and they were fully informed in detail before and during this catastrophe)

Jumping in here from someone who has never evacuated a storm before and we were on the "bad side" of Andrew.

Our number one reason for leaving this time was the Kids. IF the worse happen we had to think of the kids first. If it wouldn't of been for them we would of stayed, we did before.

Reasons we never left before:

Traffic!! Running out of gas. Most places do not take pets and finally looters.

I know alot of others that will stay to protect their property that is not a big concern to me, we just always stayed.

On Sunday when we were leaving they were begging people in New Orleans to call and police/buses/taxi would take them to the dome for shelter. Alot of people feel safer in there homes, i know i do.

Ask me if I am leaving if another storm comes this way.. hell yes! Am i waiting to the day before NO. Hopefully others have learned from this terrible distruction and leave or get to a shelter before this happens again.
