yeh I probably SHOULD know better to post political stuff... My Dad sent me this email. Thought it was worth sharing. Loribelle ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Too important not to pass on
Talk about being left in the dark by our so-called unbiased press.
Did you know that 47 countries have re-established their embassies in Iraq?
Did you know that the Iraqi current government employs 12 million Iraqi people?
Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 schools are now under construction and 38 new schools have been built in Iraq?
Did you know that Iraq's higher educational structure consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers, all currently operating?
Did you know that 25 Iraq students departed for the United States in January 2005 for the re-established Fulbright program?
Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational?! They have 5-100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a navel infantry regiment.
Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operational squadrons, which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft (under Iraqi operational control) which operate day and night, and will soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 bell jet rangers?
Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion?
Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers?
Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies ! in Iraq that produce over 3500 new officers each 8 weeks?
Did you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq? They include 364 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities.
Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?
Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid October?
Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%?
Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consist of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations?
Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004?
Did you know that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a recent televised debate?
OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!
WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW?-OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!
Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at presidential motorcades and Sheheen protesting the war.
The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes. It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States thus minimizing consequent support, and it is intended to discourage American citizens.
---- Above facts are verifiable on the Department of Defense website. Pass it on!
God bless America - and those who protect her..

i knew some of this, but not the vast scale of improvements, and the myriad constructive accomplishments, endeavors.
the media would lead me to conclude that iraq is in the 'stone age', and the educational system not much beyond high school level, let alone a university system, stock exchange, navy, and other military enforcement,to say the least, for example.

Excellent post. Where are the anti-war far lefty's like Mo? The silence is deafening.
There really is a lot being accomplished, and not to mention what it will do for the region and our fight with Al Queada in the long run. Anything worth anything usually takes time and dedication. It's never easy, but when it's accomplished, it pays tremendous dividends.
America has always had a tendency to be an instant gratification society. The successful Japanese companies have always invested time and money into products that won't pay off years down the road, but when they arrive, they're the very best. That's a good lesson to learn in all aspects of life, including the fight on terrorism.
But unfortunately, you have anti-war nuts that lie, spin, and appeal to the instant gratification tendencies of our country in trying to convince people that if it's not a 100% success this minute, it never will be and that it's a total failure. Debate about how we go about this war is legit, but 'running away from it' is dangerous and has no business being included in a smart logical discussion of our strategy on terrorism.

I have a place in my heart for you and Chad that runs too deep to address this post in regard to the entirerty or specifics of this War..and the above statements made/backed by the D.O.D.
..when a soldier's Mom posts..I personally do not feel it is the appropriate time or place to get into all the rest of it..or to bait others..
many Blessings and I hope he is home for the Holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, since when has anything stopped you from speaking your mind? Nice excuse.....you just can't spin that much 'positive' that's really going on into deep, dark, doom, gloom, despair and defeat.

Heather, since you ``me too'' on everything mo says, why not combine and make one post? You could use the name ``heather mo'' or maybe ``mo heather'' would be catcher. Anyway--
I noticed all those ``vets agin'' da war are begging for donations, I'm sure you'll help all you can to get their message out (what ever it is). You'll have to budget carefully, the ragheads have over 1000 sites spewing propaganda and surely you'll send them something to help get their message out, (to those that have computers and looking to trash America!
Set a little aside for the snaildarter and the save our killer bees along with the ``fair play for Cuba'' bunch.
May I also suggest ``drama lessons'', your just not very good at being melodramatic.

~~ Thanks Mo, I appreciate that
Funny it was sent to me by my dad actually, he shares most of your opinions re the administration, quite loudly, haha! ~~
Regardless of political opinions, it was good to see these tidbits. Arguements for/against this war ETC, asside...
~~ 24, 24... I didn't intend this to be fuel for any 'agenda' (or a club for Mo's head). I'm glad you enjoyed the post though. ~~
Really I do hope this thread doesn't turn into this ---> though I know the probability is high whenever there is a post with any hint of political nature or other controversial issues. Yup, and I posted it anyway
One of us here, who prefers to remain annonymous, has some very good news! Congratulations to one happy family that their soldier is now home from their tour in Iraq! YAY! Posts: 1149 | From southeast iowa | Registered: Sep 2004

Thanks Loribelle,
Jason said that the news media only seems to be showing the negative. He also said that a lot of positive things are going on, but the press only gravitates toward the negative.
Let us not forget what these soldiers are doing for us!
Glad to see your son will be home for xmas!

If not, I'm thrilled for whomever this is, and hope Chad is following in short order. He's certainly served long and hard.
Hey LabRat, you old kermudgeon.. retract your claws, will ya?
You haven't scared me away yet and I doubt you'll pull it off with Heather.
(he never likes the ladies speaking their mind, unless it's carbon copy of his own views... those then are showered with kudos and roses -- Ratty, you break my heart **sigh** )
Actually, I take your kibitzing as a compliment every time. Something will be very wrong the day that changes.. Lest of course the ultimate goal in expanding your cranium occurs and you are roundly reformed.. my secret goal in life
Hey Lor, your Dad, huh?
Whoooeee..
Makes for interesting after dinner conversations at my house, we have folks from every part of the spectrum.. including my sis and her hubby, Army pilots.. my Dad, extremely discerning and denouncing the majority of Bush administration and their actions .. and Mom, who will vehemently join in with me or sis, depending on who she's with, and when we're together, she's like Sweden. No comment..lol..
Hey ..these isues are enourmous and concern all of us..
I guess my private experiences in opposing views in Iraq and on this admin are the reason why I am always so shocked at the animosity some folks have toward individuals personally who have something else to say.. Some here obviously aren't fond of 'Mo' the person, which is funny to me, because they don't know me from Adam.
Why not talk it out? Clearly, there are serious problems that need to be addresed! There's really no denying that!
In any event, God Bless the Troops!

In case no one noticed, printing bad news, conflict, and disasters is what newspapers/the media concentrate on, in all fields, not just this war. And not just "liberal" media. All of them.
This is why listening to/reading the news is so upsetting.
Haven't you heard the motto: If it bleeds, it leads?
They seem to think that this is what sells. Hope they are not right.
