Nikki, my sister, and I just returned from an R&R together. It was good to spend a few days just relaxing and talking.
I'm leaving home on Friday and will be arriving in Afghanistan some time within the next 10 days. This will be my third tour, second to Afghanistan.
Someone asked what I do in the Marines and I decided not to say.
Well since I'm leaving I thought I'd let you know that I'm a Scout/Sniper. Not a real glamorous job, but one that needs doing. Lots of time alone and lots of time to think.
I've read a number of the latest posts concerning Iraq, Afghanistan and other political issues.
The rancor that is displayed on this board is quite amazing. I wonder at times if we're even from the same country.
There are folks who write about the current administration as if they are the enemy. There are those whose outright hatred of the president is, to me, appalling.
There is one "gentleman" in particular who writes in a very condesending tone of an intellectual who I would especially like to meet in person. I'm not sure he would want to meet me, but I'd sure like to have a few minutes of his time. His name is HaplyCarlessdave.
Mr. Carless Dave; your venomous writings are harmful and absolutely counterproductive to anything. Your kind of nonsense actually does our country harm. I've gone to your personal website and seen the type of crap you write. One day you'll grow-up and find out that you're not quite as smart as you think.
Now that that is off my chest!
Please keep my sister and my parents in your prayers. I'm also leaving you with a photo that says a lot. Please remember, we're all in this thing together; Lyme and the war on terror.

Do be careful, I think the board has adopted you. Good friends are hard to come by in the civilian world!

LabRat: Thanks for the encouragement. My dad is retired USAF (I try not to hold it against him) and he has said the same thing about finding good friends hard to do in the civilian world.
I still have another 5+ before the decision point on retirement. I may just make it 30, that way Uncle makes the decision for me.

Will do. Recommend twenty and take the money and run. Wrong branch of service to tempt fate too often.

I guess you've gathered I'm one of the ones not satisfied with this administration's job performance. I've tried to explain some of the reason's why.. a percentage of those reasons have recieved (respectful) feedback from you worth considering, IMO.. a percentage of the points, however, have recieved no address. I think because you draw healthy boundaries.. but just the same..
Look, I feel our mititary are by far the best in the World.. you guys can get most jobs (probably any job) done with honors, no doubt.
And yes, I do not like our administrators, not one bit.. I now am convinced Bush and his staff are very, very bad men. I am equally convinced that you and the vast majority of your collegues are very, very maginficent men/women.
My views of the excecutive branch are not some arbitrary tantrum..
tho I admit I was 'skeptical' from the get go of the Bush admin taking office, after being bombed, he and his staff had my (and all others I know, even those most ardent in opposition) they had our full support, hope, and trust.. without earning it, it was just there. Big Time.
And then they lost it, over time.. as a result of a long list of actions I won't re-post here.
I am not interested in effecting your views in any way, I'm sure I cannot..don't want to.. but somehow I feel compelled to try and strike an understanding with you (symbolically with the other's in service who are angry or confused by at the percentage of the population that are troubled by the Bush admin's actions through this War, who read the papers and how you say that effects them) That maube that men and women there might learn that the nation's upheaval has to do with something outside your relm.
I support you all 150%..you are there for all the right reasons and I thank you. For your commitment and your gains. I pray for better leadership in the higher executive branches of governent in the US.
Be cool, and take good care.. many thanks and Godspeed ---
Mo

My old buddy Mo;
quote:I'm one of the ones not satisfied with this administration's job performance.
I respect your right to have the opinion of President Bush and his administration that you do.
There's an old military saying that goes something like, "I don't agree with your political opinion, but I spend my life protecting your right to be wrong".
I think we've discussed our differences sufficient to say we can agree to disagree.
quote:I think because you draw healthy boundaries..
I've stated numerous times that my view of this world is extremely narrow; however, it's probably not real hard to tell my conservative leanings
It'd be real odd to be a left-leaning peace-nick and have my job, afterall, I do kill people for a living. That statement usually causes a lot of jaw-dropping at social events. (My sense of humor is not always PC, sorry).
quote:I now am convinced Bush and his staff are very, very bad men.
That is really a shame. I don't share your feelings concerning the president's character. I think he's made mistakes, some bigger than others, but it is my sincere feeling that he has attempted to do the right thing relative to the war on terror.
I think we could both agree (or maybe not) that no matter what path he chose after the attacks of 2001, he would be criticized by one group or the other.
My admiration for him as a leader has been and continues to be based on his consistently standing behind what he has said.
He said in October 2001 that he would punish those both directly responsible for the attacks and those who assisted in those actions. We have absolutely done just that.
quote:That maube that men and women there might learn that the nation's upheaval has to do with something outside your relm.
Again, in my part of this world I don't perceive the upheaval that apparently you and others do. I spend my life amongst those who see the war on terror as a just cause.
I participate regularly in re-enlistments of young men and women for their second and third enlistments. These outstanding young people have been there; in the mud, in the sandstorms, in the heat and cold, in the firefights and they've seen and done things other young people their age will never experience.
Yet they tell me they are staying in uniform because they feel that what we are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan is right and just.
quote:I support you all 150%..you are there for all the right reasons and I thank you. For your commitment and your gains.
Thanks Mo! Your support and prayers are appreciated, but please don't ask God for Ted Kennedy to be president. I might have to shoot myself.
quote:Be cool, and take good care..
Ah shucks, he responded modestly, I'm always cool, I'm a United States Marine.
To everyone on LymeNet: I would appreciate it if you would keep my sister and my parents in your thoughts and prayers. (My mom, in particular, is quite worried about her little boy, you know how moms are).

Well -- interestingly -- I had a boy in the trenches with Lyme and other TBI's.. horifficly so for 2 years.. so my prayers are with your Mom 100-fold on both fronts her children face.
I wanted to add to my above note..
we all have the same enemy -- Islamic extremist terror groups.
Nasty MF's that deserve nothing but extinction. (see - I'm not all flower power and rainbows )
And I most certainly -- would fail miserably at your job (just ask my sister ) however I was thrust into the front lines, the stench, and the horror on 911. I don't think you should be so quick as to judge my views you (impecably and gallantly) protect .............as totally wrong. So, OK, I agree to disagree.
We, you and me -- have the same concerns in mind. Global Islamic extremist Terror groups must be stopped.
I'm done now..

First and foremost see ya Ojai...keep your powder dry and your tool well oiled and clean....LOL
I thought your dad was in the marines sorry...tell that airdale we'll keep him, his wife and kids in our thoughts and prayers.
Gee Mo: Ya think Ojai was just a little pissed with you cuz you called his COC a Facist? Ya think you're on the same level as the men and woman fighting this thing just cuz of 911?
It's obvious at least to me you would'nt do to well at ojai's job cuz you continuously miss the target on this board. Not only with the war...which we have won...it's the peace and establishment of a democratic ruling body that the sunni's don't like. They had the power with saddam in there...now they don't...so now whose blowing up there own people to prevent progress....?
I saw O'reily on Letterman last night....
Letterman sounded like you...and O'reily like me...and I don't even like O'reily...
but I definitely don't respect Letterman...I rarely if ever watch his show...he just does'nt know what's funny...never did...probably never will...
I can see the New Yorkian mind set in him and you however...it must be in that mountain water that you all claim is so great tasting...
I'm really glad you decided not to paper hang all the admins "plethora" of mistakes.
1st cuz I would'nt really read it and second cuz I'm tired of hearing it...
But most of all third cuz it REALLY does'nt matter. Which you consistently don't seem to comprehend.
ooohh....your use of a possible profanity does not engender yourself to those who are DOING something about this war...if you think it does...guess what...you're wrong AGAIN.
In closing....if you have access over there to horn in over here ojai...please do and if you need someone to talk to besides family...someone who has been thru the crap of war or for any other reason...just give a whistle...that goes for if you need to be sent something or your buddies.... I don't have a lot...but maybe something I can do to help stem the tide over there...
God Bless us every one!

It's okay to find someone elses opinions "totally wrong". I'm sure there are things about my thinking that you would find completely out-of-wack with your thoughts.
Remember, I'm all screwed up, the only reason I stay in the military is that I can't hack it in the real world.

Just wanted to chime in and say you have many friends here Ojai and I'm with Z-man, you need something for you and your buddies sent your way--please feel free to PM me/us here or post. I think that I can say we'll do what can be done!--AND it would be our pleasure to help.
I think you can tell how many of us support you for the job your doing, even among those here who are political opposites.
I'm hoping that when you get back to the 'real world' (or sooner) you'll come back here and say howdy to us--I'm sure Dad may keep us up to date.
I'll be praying for you and your family, for your sis's recovery from this illness and your safety....God Bless!!

Ojai, (as if you need to be told) take care of yourself. No "good-bye", just "Talk to you later, Jarhead!".
Please do remember what I told you before..,
Be careful what you let 'stick' in your head... give the rest to your Guardian Angel, who knows exactly how to dispose of it. There is much more to protecting yourself than 'ducking'.

Oh boy -- Loribelle's 'nothin but love' focus is a powerful one!! In fact -- knowing her the way I do over the years, I myself would lust after one of her care packages, and I am not in combat!
I'm in as well, perhaps some Dew? -- just give me a shout!
and c'mon, Ojai -- totally wrong??
I can't believe it.. don't answer that -- just let me live on in my fantasy-land
Incidentally, IMO, you can hack it better than most. Watch your arse, I have total faith you will rub out Apu-Peebat and a few other dastardly dudes.
Labraticus - thanks, I think..
Perhaps, and perhaps a first -- we can all agree on the prospects of Ol' Ted..
