Hey, anybody here into musicals? well I am! Speaking of which, i just saw 'The Spitfire Grill' for the first time...SOOOO GOOD!!! Finding a place to buy the cast recording for it is hard though...so far I've got Samuel & French, and some weird other online company. know of anywhere else?
If anybody is into musicals, let me know some of your favorites and must-sees. I'm interested!

I love musicals! Though rarely get the chance to watch them. I have been part of a community theater group that did only musicals. We have not had a show in the past 2 years.
My all time favorites include "The Sound of Music", "Fiddler on the Roof" "Music Man", "Mary Poppins". I like some of the older ones too, like "Singing in the Rain" and any Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire or Bing Crosby movie. I like "West Side Story", "Oklahoma". Just can't think right now - but my #1 is "Les Mis", which I have seen twice live (I live in the boonies) and listen to the CD in my car anytime I have to travel more than 30 miles.
I don't ever buy movies - I have a few, but most of them I have recorded on my VCR.

Yeah! I've been Hodel in 'Fiddler' twice and love the others too...I would really love to play Marian in 'The Music Man' someday. And of course, Les Mis is AWESOME.
Community theater is fun. I was in a group for 3 years but now I'm out of that one because I'm too old (it's a youth theater group, but if I do say so myself, we were good!)

Musicals are something I really love -- actually I am a pretty big theatre person, but musicals give me a lot of joy.
I'm fortunate to be within driving distance of New York and try to stay on the lookout for good things to see on Broadway.
Like JG, I am a fan of Les Miz. Also loved Hairspray, and I thought the Lion King was wonderful.
Just last week, I got January tickets for the Broadway revival of Chorus Line. It's a show I've seen several times, and I'm excited about seeing it again.

sweet! I don't live near NYC but i've been there a couple times...these are the ones i've seen: Wicked, Hairspray, 42nd Street, Lion King, Aida. Wicked is so good...if you haven't seen it i highly reccomend it. Oh and i forgot to mention my all time favorite musical: RAGTIME. Have either of you seen it? It's so sad, and yet sooo good. I saw it in CA in a 'broadway' theater there. Like i said sooo good.
I also really enjoy all kinds of theater...I haven't performed much straight theater but I have done a bit of classical and shakespeare which I also really enjoy.

I liked the Producers when it was at the saint James in NYC. Was fortunate enough to see it with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. It was a Hoot and a half!!!!

I amend my previous list to also include the Producers. I saw that in NY wtih Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. It really made me laugh and was apparently much better than the movie.

Okay, you are all making me jealous. My cousin was a writer for SNL, shared an office with Max Brooks and STILL couldn't land tickets for The Producers!
My daughter and I go see touring companies that come through Arizona. We never miss Les Miz, Mamma Mia, Phantom. This past year, in order to see all we could, we sat in the nosebleed section. But, we saw a lot of musicals:
Thoroughly Modern Mille is very cute. Annie is getting a little worn, but great for introducing kids to musicals. Evita was rediculous; should only be seen with Patty Lepone and Mandy Patinkin. Joseph..Dreamcoat, better than I thought.
We were in NYC for a couple of days and could only afford the half price tix. The ONLY musical playing that day was The Full Monty. We walked out. $200...just throw it in the street!
Last musical I actually performed in was in college..the lead in Paint Your Wagon. Decided to take a break and got married. Yep...that's what happens!
My daughter, who has bartonella, is VERY talented and was doing fabulous in high school theater. She started coming down sick and the high school teacher violated and then destroyed her in the department. We had to confront him and the administration. She had to leave theater, and her health spiraled.
The teacher is still there.
The only thing that keeps her going is that she will one day be able to be back on the stage.
But, we see as many musicals as we can. Even when she is in pain.

I love musicals. I also am within driving distance of New York and I've seen Miss SAigon a gigazillion times and Phantom, Blood Bothers in London, and Les Mis.
Since I am a violinist, Ive had the chance to perform in many musical, the Wizard of Oz was my favorite...Bye Bye Birdie, Oklahoma, Carousel...fun stuff!

Well, I live on the opposite side of the country...but LOVE musicals. When growing up we were taken by the busloads to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, to see operas for children....where my love of music originated.
Absolutely GREASE, Carosel, Paint Your Wagon (fun!), Annie?--all of the ones mentioned.
My all-time fav is the Unsinkable Mollie Brown, a movie to live by

Wouldnt give a plug nickel for a thousand of them.
My brand of musical is a good old night of oldies rocken roll!! There is a dance about 60 miles from here on the 16th of the month Wish I had somebody to 'share' it with. One of those things in life to share or no go!!!

My first musical was my sophomore year in high school. I played MEG in Damn Yankees! We had a massive auditorium and stage and had to sing to the last row without microphones. The good ol' days.
That's a great musical. I'm glad it's still playing.

I've never seen "Damn Yankees" but I had some friends in it a while back and heard it was hillarious...so it's on my list

I love Les Miserables, Annie, Sound of Music, The King & I, Cinderella, Oklahoma, Into the Woods, Once Upon A Mattress, My Fair Lady, Wicked, Grease, Hairspray, Thouroughly Modern Millie, Seusical, Beauty & the Beast, Lion King & Spam-A-Lot! Heard they are working on Tarzan the Musical!!! Hate I missed Jeckyle & Hyde and Rent on Broadway. Passed on Cats on purpose. A review of Cats is enough for me!
If you've seen a lot of musicals you should check out FORBIDDEN BROADWAY! There are several CD's out now. Some knowledge of the musicals and theatre are necessary to get the jokes, but if you do, they are very funny!!!!

this point! I just remember seeing those corny
adds long ago while walking through the maze of
nude circus freak shows at the airport... it was a joke..

Hi -- I like musicals too...And I've been an accompanist for a long time...
